Raptor Events put on an amazing bird show at the Alameda County Fair this past weekend (and will be continuing to do so multiple times daily through the fair's season). A half hour presentation educating visitors about the falcon, hawk, and owl... watch them fly from perch to perch around the bleacher seating and other structures in and around the fair, along with the trainer instructing them to do little tricks, but making it clear that the birds do need to adapt to the environment and crowds, nothing too crazy but still quite amusing and enjoyable. Mirabelle, the baby spectacled owl, was very cute. Luna the hawk caught a toy mid-air, returning it to the trainer for a reward. Marvin the owl showed us just how strong birds of prey are (the trainer also explained the massive amount of rats an owl eats, and how not using rat poisoning on rodents helps the preservation of owls). For the finale of the show, Marty the lanner falcon made an appearance then flew away and didn't come back, lol... Eyes followed as he flew from perch to higher perch, to even higher trees in the distance, the trainer's bird whistle not enough to get him to return. But he has a gps so the trainer would go get him after the show, no problem. As long as the birds are safe and handled with care, that's what matters. Such beautiful creatures I adored viewing up close. The show was fun and informative, and certainly something new and different at this fair (along with the canine stars stunt dog show which was situated right next to the bird show, but with staggered showtimes throughout the day). We were very surprised by how "enraptured" (see how I did that?) both kids and parents were with the recent show they did in our front yard. We all had a blast carefully and softly touching a hissing cockroach, a bearded dragon and more. Our family and many of the party goers even got to hold a giant snake. And our little guy got to have a falcon jump onto his gloved arm several times. It was all VERY exciting! Lisa was our trainer and she was great. She explained many animal facts as she expertly introduced us to all the animals she brought. She also arrived early and was willing to start the show as soon as she set up, rather than the time I had booked. The booking process was very easy. I made an inquiry, selected the show I wanted and paid a deposit. Then shortly before the day of the show, we paid the bill. Everything was smooth and I couldn't have been taken care of better. This was the most awesome entertainment for a party! Jonathan was so informative and fun for the kids. The team brought so many friends with them to show and tell! There was a king snake, an albino one-eyed python, a ball python, a sand boa, a red-tailed boa, an iguana, a tortoise, a falcon, a buzzard, a hawk, and my favorite an owl! The team was very hands-on with everything except the larger birds such as the buzzard. The children were so excited and the adults were captivated. Jonathan came out to my son's preschool last week and the experience was perfect. Jonathan was easy to work with as we planned and super responsive. I needed him to get proof of vaccination (him, not the animals ;) and he did it quickly which was so appreciated. But the best part was when he arrived. He was supper patient with the kids and give them info that they could process. He obviously cares about the animals (the actual animals, not the toddlers) and seemed to be able to anticipate their behavior, which was amazing to me. We asked Jonathan to come to our wedding, for his falcon to be our ring bearer. He also provided an hour of raptor education for our guests before our rehearsal, and stayed after the ceremony for photo ops with our guests. Jonathan was so professional, and so were his birds! Marty the falcon was the BEST ring bearer we could ever have hoped for, and Ollie the owl was SO fluffy. I attended a birthday party on Saturday for my son's best friends 6th birthday. The party had maybe 20 kids aged 2-8, mostly 5 and 6 year olds. While the animals were all very impressive I felt like the woman handler and presenter was not patient with some of the kids. She also talked for a very long time and got annoyed when these young children didn't sit still and stay quiet for the entire time she was talking. Then after talking for way too long for their attention spans, she would ask the kids if they had any questions and then get frustrated with them when the kids actually had a few questions as she either didn't want to answer their questions or would get annoyed and not let the kid finish their question if they were taking too long to ask it, after calling on them to ask their question. At one point she rolled her eyes at a little boy for being eager and excited to ask a lot of questions and sarcastically insulted him for asking too many questions and talking too much. As a parent and former early childhood educator it was really disappointing to see someone come to an exciting party and create these fun moments for these small children only to treat them like they were dumb or annoying for being interested and curious. It's not a good look to treat little kids this way at a KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY. I feel like perhaps your presenters and handlers could be better trained on how to handle large groups of kids this age. Also, when she was packing everything up, she left a huge snake in a pillowcase on the grass in the backyard where all the kids were running around and playing after her show. She left it there for what seemed like a long time, as that snake was moving around and could have been stepped on, hit with a soccer ball, or if it had gotten out hurt the kids. Multiple adults at the party felt obligated to sort of stand guard near the snake to ensure it was not injured by the kids playing nor did it some how get out and injure the kids. Just seemed pretty negligent and and irresponsible if you ask me. I did enjoy the show so I am giving a few stars but I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone doing an event for small children which is really sad because they are at a great time in life to take this experience. read more

We had a very lively and entertaining birthday party for our 2 year old all because of Raptor Events! Jonathan truly made the event a wild success with not only the children but also the adults! Most of the parents were telling me it was the best kids birthday party they ever have attended. Jonathan and I worked together to decide the best reptiles and birds for the party (based on age, attention span, timing allotted, spacial constraints, etc). He was able to perfectly control all of the creatures and the interactions with the two-year-old children. He was also extremely well informed on all of the creatures and able to provide details for each (lifespan, eating habits, special skills, size, etc). He brought an owl, snake, large lizard, turtle, and crab but also had other creatures such as hissing cockroach, tarantula, and others available (we skipped these). He allowed the children to touch the creatures and provided a very safe environment for everyone.
