I'm so glad I found Dave from Total Kids Magic here on Yelp. I wanted something different for a children's entertainment for my son's first birthday party. I would usually see the same entertainers in children's party and I realized that I've never seen a magician at any of them. Booking was easy via email and his prices/packages are listed on the website. I had about 15-20 kids at my party and he did such an AMAZING job entertaining both children and adults! I went with 45 min magic show, 20 min balloon twist, and 20 min bubble show. Even though it was raining that day, Dave was very accommodating and communicated with me the different options for a bubble show in case he can't do it outside. He still made it happen and the kids had so much fun popping gigantic bubbles in the rain. I also appreciated how Dave's magic show was age appropriate with the smaller kids but still catered to the adults with a few magic tricks. My son was a guest at a birthday party where this magician performed. Everything was going well until the balloon animal making. The kids were crowded around him and were excited to get a balloon animal. My son and another girl are up front and waiting to get their balloon and they were very excited. I didn't hear the full conversation but I heard the magician say you guys are last (several times) for whatever reason (maybe they were too excited and too close to him)? Instead of getting a parent involved to help him get the kids lined up, he decided to punish my child and make him wait. This kind of action is never okay. I would have been happy to step in and help but instead he chose to punish the kids by picking other kids that weren't even waiting as long to get their balloons first. It wasn't until I actually went to stand behind my child and said something that he finally made a balloon animal for my son. And this is after my son asked me why is he not picking me? These kids were all between 3 and 5 years old and they do not know what they were doing wrong. If there was a problem, let the parents know... it is not your job to punish our kids. This really left what could have been an overall good experience with a sour taste. read more

Wow! Dave was awesome!!! Full disclosure I had considered for my 3 yr olds party in July and did not pull the trigger. Then I did book in September for my 1 yr olds party and he was a HUGE hit! The kids were cracking up and all had so much fun! He was great at getting kids involved and when there was a little time left, he made some balloon animals for the kid's too! The magic show was awesome! Both the toddlers and adults were laughing a ton! The ice was good to keep momentum going and no one got bored between tricks. The bunny in the hat was a HUGE hit! The only reason i had this magician the second time is because i didn't see it the first time around as I was taking care of newly born youngest son at a time. I was expecting a real magic show, not a so-called comedy full of stupid jokes. I have seen many magic shows and even the free ones in Baboa Park are of better quality. The parachute was dirty and smelly and it has nothing to do with the size of a living room. Whatever it is, it certainly isn't a magic show of any quality and i don't think that smart kids , let alone parents, would enjoy it. There are many real magicians in san diego. Worth every penny!! Best children's party entertainment in San Diego! His red "Angry Bird" was amazing and the kids were absolutely thrilled. He first did a magic show, and the best part of the whole party for me was seeing the 20 kindergarteners scream with delight and amazement as he "pulled" a hankerchief out of the birthday boy's ear, or make his "bunny" disappear in his top hat. After the wonderful magic show, he twisted balloon animals for the kids - and we had a lot of kids, so he had to be very fast to keep all of their attention (and he was). The most popular request seemed to be wiener dogs, but I saw a good variety of other animals. One girl told me that she was "in love" with her butterfly. ;) Then he left to get his "special guest" and came back as red Angry Bird. He gave the kids hugs and posed for pictures. We then sung happy birthday and handed out cake and ice cream. They loved it! During all of the craziness, a few kids accidentally popped their balloons. When angry bird left, he came back as himself very briefly and redid balloons for the kids whose had popped. He left about 5 "spare" wiener dogs as back up. We were absolutely thrilled with the quality of entertainment provided by this company. I can't wait to hire Dave again. read more

This was the third year in a row we've had Dave perform at our daughter's birthday party! He's THAT good. He keeps the kids' attention so the parents can sit back and relax. The show is equally amusing for kids as it is for grownups. Your kids will be smiling ear to ear! He's got kids of his own, and it shows! He really knows what he's doing.
