    Hog in the Hive

Adorable little pizza shop connected to a market, just a few tables but the vibes are vibin'. We came here after hiking Old Rag and were ready to eat. Based off of other Yelp! reviews, I got the Hog in the Hive. My friend got one of the pasta dishes. I took off one star because the server forgot to take our order for awhile and, as other reviews mentioned, the kitchen can be slow. The food, however, was worth the wait - absolutely delicious! Wish we were from the area as I'd love to come back and try the other pizza options on the menu - the Omni sounded fantastic as well.

Love this spot, always stop by here when we leave Shenandoah. Great pizza and cute little shop attached. We got the supreme pizza this time and it's a 5/5! Definitely wish they had some ranch, but other than that everything was perfect. Definitely stop by here if you're passing through or visiting!

Super cute and cozy little restaurant!! Located just a ~30-minute drive away from the main entrance to Shenandoah National Park, Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen is a great pitstop right before (or after) a good hike. The wooden rafters and log-cabin-esque walls give the entire place a rustic, cozy vibe, and they share the space with a little convenience store that's perfect for any last-minute necessities or picnic supplies. The wood-fired pizza is lovely, with a not-too-thick-not-too-thin and slightly charred crust, a generous helping of sauce, and a solid layer of cheese / whatever toppings you request. They do have a few sauceless pizzas, so read the menu carefully before you order! The staff is super friendly and will probably warn you, but still worth taking a look. I typically order their classic margherita, which is delightful -- the pop of freshness from the basil really elevates the overall pizza. You can occasionally get unlucky and get an overcooked pizza, which happened during my second visit here; the crust was a bit too dry and overly charred, but the pizza was still tasty. My pizza during my last visit was totally fine, as were all the pizzas I saw around us during this lunch-time stop, so I assume it was a one-off fluke. Their starters are also all quite tasty! I've tried their burrata and brussels sprouts, both of which are delightful. The burrata comes with a huge serving of hot, melty burrata and delicious tomato mixture. It's paired with their bread, which is soft and pillowy on the inside, with a lovely charred exterior that holds up well to the cheese. It does feel a little bit silly to get bread and cheese right before eating more pizza (aka bread and cheese), but it's very good and absolutely worth a try. The sprouts are also tasty -- I love a good warm salad, and it has a great sweet and savory flavour profile from the balsamic glaze and grated parmesan. The toasted almonds are also a wonderful added crunch! I did find some of the brussels sprouts a little bit too big, which meant a few were a tiny bit undercooked in the center and hard to eat (although I also have a small mouth, so it could be a me problem), but the overall dish was still great!

RPK is fairly close to Mary's Rock (driving) and provides outdoor seating, which is a great option for those hikers with dogs. We opted to get the Veggie Pizza, which was just okay to me and the Chicken Parm, which was a great selection. Our pizza selections took a little longer than we anticipated for them to come out, however, it wasn't an excessively long wait. Overall, RPK was good reward after a beautiful hike at Mary's Rock.

I really wasn't sure what to expect when I drove into Sperryville. It looked like a town of 50 people so I wasn't expecting to have much in the choice of good food, but I was very pleasantly surprised! No, there aren't a LOT of choices, but the ones they have are all worth it. Top of the list was Rappahannock Pizza. It was PACKED, and lots of orders being placed to-go (not surprised, given the lack of food options in town) but they were still fast. There's an outdoor upstairs area that a lot of people sat, and the food is great! The Cheese Bread was absolutely the best that I've ever had, and the Hog in the Hive was excellent- lots of kick from the peppers, but cooled off nicely with the honey. If you're in Sperryville, I'm guessing you have no choice but to try this place, but fear not because it could be dropped in any big city and still be extremely popular!

So much for having extra pizza to bring home!! We ate it all.

So we ordered ragu soup and a large pizza, thinking we would have extra pizza to bring home. Well, that didn't happen. The pizza was so good we ate everything. It was absolutely fantastic and the service was top notch. She was very attentive and we were very happy.

What a cute place! The wood rafters with the lights were a talking point for us because we love that look! The staff were friendly and helpful! There is a country store attached that is really cute to look around in. We stopped in and found the pictured ice cream sandwiches, and boy were they good! The bread and oil was a fantastic way to start off the meal, as that is one of our favorite things! We added some crushed red pepper to the oil to give it a little extra kick, but it didn't need it. The pizzas were great! They only come in 8" or 12" sizes so you'll probably need to order two! The crust is not too thick and has the wonderful brick oven taste. The chicken Alfredo pizza (12") is the specialty pizza for the month of May. Now read carefully because it does have pesto on it, and personally I found the pesto to be quite overpowering, but still yummy nonetheless! The margarita pizza (12") was absolutely amazing. The ingredients all tasted so fresh! The sauce was a beautiful balance of sweet and tangy, and the fresh basil just really took the flavor a step further! We also got a cheese pizza (8") for our 7 year old who raved that it was the best one she has ever had. Now the price is a little high for 12" of pizza, but so worth it. Give it a try and get the ice cream sandwiches from the country store, you won't regret it!

Great menu, superb pizza, well-trained and personable servers. Ideal venue for a celebration after hiking in the adjacent Shenandoah National Park. Their "Supreme" pizza truly lives up to its name. One might only wish they were open more than two and a fraction days a week.

Finally made it out to check out the pizza and it was as good as I was hoping. We drove out on a rainy Saturday for lunch. Though it was busy, we were able to get a seat right away. Service was quick and the waitress was really great. I kept it pretty basic with the cheese pizza, but added the sausage. My wife got the Hog in the Hive, but skipped the hot peppers. What's nice is we were able to get the special pizza as the 8" even though it wasn't listed for that size. I also decided later to get the Potter's Grapefruit Hibiscus cider. The pizzas came out quickly. The crust is nice and thin, though you need to give a little fold for structural integrity purposes. I'd have liked if the outer edge of crust puffed up a bit more, but if it's homemade dough, you sometimes can get inconsistent rise or even if the temp is a little off in the oven (being really particular here .) Didn't take away from the great flavor of everything. We already want to head back to try out their other pizza.

Great little pizza shop. Honestly the best cheesy bread I have ever had. It is delicious with the perfect amount of seasoning. The Hog in the hive pizza was good it had some sweet honey and spicy peppers.

RPK is a convenient stop after a long hike in Shenandoah. However, it gets quite busy and indoor seating has a long wait. Fortunately, they have quite a few outdoor seating options, but even on a colder day- they have the fans on and no heated lamps. My husband and I were starving after completing a long hike and ordered the chicken parm pizza, not a margherita pizza, herb and fontina risotto cakes. The herb and fontina risotta cakes were probably my favorite since they came with a nice arugula and pine nut salad. The cakes themselves were just okay, but were definitely better than the pizzas. Both pizzas were very dough heavy and light on the actual toppings. We felt like we ate more dough than anything else. It also tasted like they just sprinkled herbs on top instead of baking the pie with it. Even though I am not big on dough-heavy pizza, their dough was quite good. I should have opted for just the cheese bread. Would I come back? Probably not. Even the basque cheesecake we had was underwhelming.

The BEST. Nothing better than finishing a long hike in the Shenandoahs and knowing that a Rappahannock Pizza is your reward. We've had most of the specialty pizzas. Favorites are the Hog in the Hive, the Carnivore, and the Greens pizzas. They are incredible with the freshest toppings and thin and smoky crusts. Today we had the burrata salad, with roasted tomatoes, plenty of olive oil, the perfect amount of salt, broiled burrata, and the best homemade focaccia to scoop it all up. Also had the house salad and split the white pizza (no tomato sauce) with pork, asparagus, onion and cheese. Many of the ingredients are local and seasonal. Incredible beers by the glass. I just wish I lived closer, that's how much I love this place. Easy parking, friendly service and a cute gourmet/general store attached.

Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen is connected to an adorable, cozy grocery store that exudes a farmers market vibe. While we waited for an indoor table, we explored the grocery store. Once back inside the restaurant, we opted for a shared salad and pizza. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients was evident. Though the salad was tasty, it would have been easier to eat if they had chopped the lettuce; it was a bit challenging and messy otherwise. The homemade dressing was undoubtedly a highlight. While the pizza was fresh, next time we'll opt for one with more meat and extra cheese!
