I had 4 pieces of meat-which the lamb was one bite, some rice and a sad excuse for a salad. The flavor was good, just not so much their portion sizing for the price. I wouldn't choose to pay that much for what was offered. The pictures were deceiving. And I didn't even receive my pita with my order. Great Mediterranean restaurant located in the Central West End. It's a bit different than the typical Middle Eastern food you get at most restaurants, but it's still quite good. I got a chicken dish with a vegetable similar to spinach in it. It was amazing, along with the cucumber salad and the baba ghanoush I ordered as an appetizer. Wonderful international restaurant in CWE. Have been here several times now and the falafel, hummus, and cheese apps are very good. A few of the dinners have been fantastic while one or two were slightly bland. Hookah can be a turn off for dining in. Small beer selection - they should find one or two unique international beers. We ordered food from them on Saturday night and picked it up to take to the hospital to dine with our daughter-in-law who is hospitalized. It was delicious, just like their other location in the Loop on Delmar. They did not serve the shrimp that was supposed to have been in the Ranoush Mixed Grill, which was disappointing, but they were very generous with the other foods. First time having levant style cuisine and we had a great time. One of the diners grew up with the cuisine, and he said the food was very close to the food he grew up with. We all had hummus, falafel balls, baba ganoush and a cucumber tomato spiced salad. All items were delicious. I personally had the dawood basha. Meatballs cooked in tomato and garlic sauce. Served with rice and another fresh veggie salad. I had a drink from the bar, called a "Damascus Nights" nice and flavorful. We ended the night with hookah, and enjoyed our time together. We were there celebrating a graduation, with a party of 10 and our waitress was great at meeting the tables needs. Only negative was one person's dish did not come out until much later than the rest. Luckily we weren't in a rush and enjoying each other's company. They sent another plate of appetizer trio to serve as an apology and tie that diner over. Nice gesture. Delicious and fantastic service. We were visiting out of town and love Mediterranean food, so this sounded like a great place to stop. The vegetarian plate offered a nice variety of what they offered and everything was delicious. My family thought the falafel was the best they had ever had (we ordered more). Our server was very sweet and offered good recommendations and descriptions. The owner happened to be sitting behind us and offered us free dessert. If we lived in town, we would frequent this restaurant and will definitely be back if we're ever in St. Louis again. read more

My fiancé and I were always wondering why this place was always empty.....We decided to find out the hard way. we took our two friends from out of town here and we were the third table to be seated on a Saturday night, this issue with this place is it takes FOREVER for even simple things to be accomplished. We were seated and ordered 3 cocktails and a water, the cocktails took 10 minutes to come out and they served the two men first, then brought out my girlfriends drink, and completely forgot about my water. They did not ask to take our orders at this time. We were already so disappointed we asked for the check for the cocktails. That took so long my fiancé went and chased them down for the check, again I emphasize the place was empty. Come on!! So bizarre. Disappointing--we were anticipating a relaxed, enjoyable low key dinner, but it was not to be. Even though we had a reservation and in any event it was early in the evening and there were plenty of tables, we felt like they were trying to get us finished and out the door as fast as possible. We ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees, and asked that they be served in that order. Instead, the appetizer and salads came out almost immediately, together, and the entrees were served just a few minutes later. We asked that the entrees be taken back, which was done, but every few minutes they asked whether we were ready for the entrees. After several repetitions of that, we told them again we wanted to finish our salads first. When we were ready for our entrees, they told us the chef was putting them back on the grill to make sure they were hot--in other words, even though they were the ones who had rushed the preparation they simply put the entrees aside to re-serve them to us. Predictably, one of the entrees was cooked more than we had asked for--but as it was still favorable my companion chose to eat it anyway, The other, however, was so over cooked and dried out that it was essentially inedible. To the waiter's credit, when he asked how things were and I told him my entree was dried out and overcooked, he returned and asked if I wanted them to prepare a new one (I assume he left and returned because he had to get approval to make that offer). By that point, we'd had enough so I simply ate some of the rice and vegetables and left the rest (and turned down the waiter's offer of a box to take the uneaten food home!). When the bill came, we were charged for everything. Again, to the waiter's credit, when I told him my entree had been inedible, he left and came back with a revised bill that took that entree off--but I felt that was something they should have done on their own. The waiter was apologetic and expressed the hope that we would return--but no one else from the restaurant acknowledged the problems or said anything to us. Even worse, canned black and green olives, and some sliced pickles. Not even a nice selection. Why put it on the menu? Had carry out, so this review may be different from what it could be if I had dined in. I don't expect an amazing dinner when I order carry-out over dining in, but this order was extremely underwhelming. What I had, followed by grade and written explanation for each grade. 1. Hummus (C-): The hummus was not very exciting, in my personal opinion it had way too much tahini and every other flavor was completely missing. Very little in terms of chickpea or lemon flavor. Not the worst Hummus, but definitely sub par. 2. Falafel (D+): The falafel was lacking any real sort of flavor and it was incredibly dense. Nothing really to say here, pretty sub-par. Tahini sauce that was provided was absolutely disgusting and tasted sour/old. 3. Bameh (F): This is supposed to be a flavorful Okra dish in a tomato based sauce. No idea what happened here but it's awful. It lacks any sort of flavor at all, and the "pieces" of Okra were few and far between. There were maybe 8 1" inch pieces of Okra total. Compared to the images on the site what I got was laughable. The tomato base is without a doubt just canned tomato sauce, and it tasted like Campbell's canned tomato soup. For nearly $15 dollars this is absolutely a dish you should avoid at all costs. I love Okra and don't mind the sliminess of it, but overall this dish lacks flavor of any sort, and does come off as too slimy. read more

Just ordered by postmates and everything tasted good but there were several issues. Hefty service fees considering the delivery was free. There was nothing to eat my babaganoush with except a fork and the other folks pita bread orders were soggy. The chicken wings were dry and only 4 for $7.50. If you are going to charge service fees on top of the price of the food, should make it excellent, especially when it is 1/3 the cost of the food. read more

The restaurant has a very nice quiet ambience. The place is fairly new so it wasn't as busy when we went there, and the owner/manager was super nice and made sure we were being served well. We were fasting so he gave us complimentary hummus and pita. All the food came out within 20 min of putting the order, so service was pretty quick. The rose tea kehwa tasted good, but obviously was very strong for me as I'm not a coffee drinker. The hummus and pita tasted fresh. The chicken wings were okay, I wouldn't get them again, as the chicken wasn't cooked to perfection. The falafel were scrumptious and some of the best I've had in St. Louis. The mixed grill included chicken skewer pieces, ground beef kebab and lamb chops. All the meats were cooked to perfection, and tasted really good. I would definite recommend ordering that as it lets you try a little bit of everything. Along with appetizers and French fries, my husband and I were easily able to share the mixed grill platter instead of ordering two entrees. Overall, a definite recommendation out in the central west end area. It helps that jennis splendid ice cream is right across the street from it. Great spot for ice cream. read more

The food is great, service is terrible. Server brought me the wrong order and when I told him he said "the computer put in chicken instead of beef." No offer to bring me the correct order or apology. Just the excuse that it was "the computers fault." I sent it back and the rest of the table was nearly finished with the meal when my correct order arrived.
