Used to visit here often about 10 years ago. Went back with a buddy for lunch after a long hike. They are pretty efficient greeting us. This place hasn't changed much. Still nicely kept with a cozy and clean vibe. We shared their tea salad. I got their own noodle dish. Tea salad is solid. Their noodle dish is well seasoned and texture was really nice. It is still the good place that I remembered. Would like to revisit when I crave for some nice Burmese food

A branch of the other Burmese restaurant chain that has VERY large portions and good flavors! Recommend the tea lead salad and the Burmese pad thai, but we also tried the minted jalapeno chicken that was a good blend of flavors I never thought matched! We had mild spice for all of them and it wasn't too spicy at all, so if you can handle spice, try medium! The staff are very friendly and attentive, serving cucumber water and the interior is well-decorated and gives an air of sophistication while still being a more casual restaurant.

I ordered online for take out. Paid over 20 bucks for a full salad but received a side salad portion instead. This is my second time ordering and never again. Portions are always small for the price. No wonder I never see the restaurant full during lunch.

Neat, clean and cozy ambiance.

Went for a Monday night dinner while visiting the city. Was not disappointed at all. The place was not busy for dinner (great for us !). The tables were all well arranged and the entire restaurant was very well kept with clean, cozy and somewhat colonial dining setup. The food was very flavorful and well balanced (not too oily or unnecessarily smothered with chili just to make it spicy). We ordered the tea salad (very unique, our first time experience), beef curry (Thai basil) - very tasty!, garlic noodles, samosa and semolina cake with mango ice cream (delicious!). Server can be a little more prescriptive though

Took out the Tea Leaf Salad and Monk Hingar (catfish chowder noodle soup). Soup was tasty but noodle provided was such a tiny portion that I cooked ramen to add to it. Tea leaf salad was good with a little tiny spicy kick to it.

Rangoon Ruby in San Carlos is one of those spots where you walk in and immediately know you're in for something different with a warm, stylish decor with a hint of elegance, and the aroma of garlic, spices, and coconut milk floating through the air. It's upscale but not uptight, perfect for date nights, group dinners, or anyone craving authentic Burmese food done right. Must-Try Dishes: * Tea Leaf Salad (Lahpet Thoke) This is the signature dish and it does not disappoint. Fermented tea leaves, crunchy nuts, seeds, tomatoes, garlic, and lime all come together in a tangy, umami-packed bite. Complex and addicting. * Samusa Soup A flavorful lentil-based soup with pieces of samusa (Burmese samosas) swimming inside. Spiced but not too spicy , cozy and comforting. * Pumpkin Pork Stew Tender pork belly in a mild pumpkin curry , rich, slightly sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Definitely a sleeper hit on the menu. * Burmese Style Garlic Noodles Stir-fried noodles with crispy garlic, scallions, and your choice of protein. Simple, but seriously flavorful. A good "gateway dish" if you're new to Burmese cuisine. * Coconut Rice Order it as a side with anything , fluffy, fragrant, and the perfect match for the saucier curries. * Shan Noodles One of the most beloved street foods of Myanmar rice noodles with chicken or pork in a slightly tangy tomato-based sauce. Light but deeply satisfying. Drinks & Atmosphere: They've got a full bar with solid craft cocktails and Burmese beer. The vibe is classy but welcoming ,think white tablecloths with a laid-back neighborhood feel. Service is attentive, helpful, and happy to guide you if you're new to Burmese food. Price Point: It's on the higher side for casual dining , you're looking at ~$18-$28 for entrées. But the portions are fair, the quality is high, and the experience feels special. It's not cheap takeout, but it's worth it. Final Verdict: Rangoon Ruby delivers , bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and dishes that strike a perfect balance between comforting and adventurous. If you've never tried Burmese cuisine, this place makes a fantastic first impression. Just be ready to spend a little , and leave very full.

The glass of sake was like 1.5oz

1 year later and 3rd time -- still meh. Tea salad was okay and pad Thai under spiced and overpriced. Place was fairly empty and service was poor. No need to revisit for the 4th time.

So what made the experience for me is the waiter. He was super friendly and very great at giving us advice on which dish is great to choose. Although i know what is good i usually ask to see if the staff is knowledgable of the menu. We ordered the food and of course it was delicious! We sat outside on a nice warm day and it was a great to sit there and chat. Great place for a date and to catch up with friends.

Not good at all. Ordered Hot and didn't taste one spice. Paid for delivery too and left a tip. Don't do it. Sure this we be hidden.

Ordered it for delivery to be Hot on the spice level and I can't even imagine what it tasted like. No flavor. No spice at all. Just being honest.

First time having this cuisine, the food was amazing and the service excellent. The tea salad was very different and flavorful.

Why does this place have a "Dickey's BBQ" flag outside? I thought it was an odd goof but it's outside all the time, AND at the SF location. Do they actually serve Dickey's BBQ here?

The eggplant we got was also insanely flavorful and well-seasoned, and I would get this again in a heartbeat. The minty jalapeno chicken made me want to try to recreate this dish at home. I love anything with mint in it, and I love anything with jalapenos in it. Put them together, and it's a combo made in heaven. The spring rolls were also very good, but pretty standard, so it's not a must-try, but they're great if you're craving something deep fried and crispy. Omg, the coconut rice. I'd never really had coconut rice like this before despite growing up around Asian food, and I've had dreams about eating this again. We doordashed everything for our most recent meal and even though quality can sometimes suffer when you're having something delivered (or even when you're getting takeout), every dish was so incredible. I can't wait for our next meal from Burma Spice - in fact, I think I might doordash it again for lunch tomorrow!

It was the right amount of saltiness and it wasn't super super strong. My spouse said this is one of the better tea leaf salads that we have tried in the area. It did feel a little one note! Service was good! They were nice!

Having said that, Mingalaba is probably the most authentic Asian restaurant I've eaten at so far. You can there that there's no shortcuts with the dishes, nothing is watered down, everything is just real. The coconut chicken soup is something out of this world. It's not spicy at all. I can't describe it but it was really delicious, as with all the other dishes. The service was amazing and they even amended some of our dishes so that we could feed it to our kid (non-spicy). I really like this restaurant. Only such a shame we live so far now and only just discovered it. I'd visit again if I'm around.

While there are a few highlights, several dishes don't quite justify the premium pricing. The Burmese beef and lamb curries are really good--the meat is consistently tender and the flavors are deep and well-developed. We also really enjoyed the rainbow salad and the paratha with curry sauce, though both felt overpriced for what they are. Other menu items have been disappointing: * Catfish Chowder: This was fairly average and bore a strange resemblance to pea soup. * Walnut Broccoli Chicken: Another mediocre dish that failed to leave an impression.

It's been a while since the last time we've come to Burma Superstar, but we saw the restaurant week…read moremenu and decided it was about time to come back! This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!
