She immediately recommended that we try Scarlet Kitchen & Bar and get the pretzel. Scarlet is located in the historic St. James Hotel in beautiful downtown Red Wing. The restaurant is large and inviting, but it was a lovely night, so we opted to sit on their patio wherever had a view of the town. Our server was attentive and friendly. Of course, we ordered Amy's Famous Pretzel, and with beer cheese and garlic butter dipping sauces, it was absolutely delicious--more like a pretzel bread. I ordered the Mississippi Pot Roast Sandwich, and that hit the spot, too. A simple Panna Cotta with a berry sauce was a light, and tasty finish to our meal. If you want a great meal, in a beautiful restaurant with attentive service, give Scarlet Kitchen & Bar a try. It will not disappoint.

We were having a cocktail at the bar so we waved him over to ask what he recommended . I took his advice and ordered the scallops. They were cooked perfectly. Very tender and paired really well with the roasted corn and bacon. The whipped feta was very cold, which was interesting, but the flavor was tangy so it offset the richness of the bacon and scallops. The beef tenderloin was delicious cooked perfect medium rare. The broccolini was a little tough and the blue cheese sauce could have been a little thicker. It was kind of runny. I will be back to try more items on the menu. Excited the restaurant is open again.

The Char was great but the navy bean veggies underneath were so salty they were not edible. Hopefully these are things that can be improved. Probably won't return for the food.

The curds were lightly coated, making the batter crispy but not overwhelming. Unfortunately, more than one of our cheese curds also had onion in them. Pulled Pork - this was a clear winner today! The barbecue sauce and heaping portion of pork worked perfectly together on the fluffy bun. The French fries were clearly fresh cut and had the perfect combination of meatiness and crispiness. Jerk Chicken Sandwich - the chicken was well seasoned and well cooked. We never received the honey-Mayo to pair with the sandwich, which was sorely missed. When they say this sandwich is hot, we would call it Minnesota hot. We all agreed, the water had an unusual taste. This impacted the water and any soda our table had. We chose to eat outside because the internal space was incredibly loud. The property was not handicap friendly with uneven ground and a big step to go to the patio. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the space is probably a hot spot in the summer along the river.

When we walked in it was busy and the hostess was friendly and estimated the wait time to be around 5 minutes, and it was; which was nice. We were seated in the porch area (there is a garage door that separates it from the rest of the restaurant) and it was sticky. The air was like the outdoors (SUPER humid day) but not as warm; there clearly was no AC. They did have a big ass fan on (that's the brand name I believe ) but it was on so low- you could not feel it. We all ordered drinks and only my husband was asked if he wanted a refill (family of 6 here). Our waitress never checked on us to ask how the food was until she asked if we were ready for our bill. My oldest son ordered a pizza with banana peppers, mushrooms, and pepperoni, and instead he got a pizza with green peppers, no mushrooms, and a little bit of pepperoni. My husband ordered a burger which he said was dry and so dry in fact he had to remove part of his bun (he is NOT a picky eater). I ordered a Rachel. My sandwich was incredibly dry and the only reason I almost finished it was because there was no way I was letting a 15.00 sandwich go to waste.... My oldest daughter ordered a cheese quesadilla and it was comparable to something she could have made herself (age 9) and thrown in the microwave. My youngest daughter (age 3) ordered a grilled cheese and it was so bad that she refused to eat it. I tried it and it tasted like wax. Velveeta cheese does not make a good grilled cheese especially when it's cold by the time you get to eat it. It was inedible, we ended up throwing it away. The only person who got decent food was my second son who ordered a 12" pepperoni pizza. He said it was pretty good. I will say this place serves "bar food". We will not be returning. The waitress did take the messed up pizza off of our bill (we appreciated that) but, if she had checked up on us earlier, he could have just had a new one made... I fully understand that it was busy, but it's still not an excuse for poor service and bad food. I have worked in restaurants from low end to high end, so I know how it works. We would have appreciated a check in from our waitress and a smile at least... She could have been having a bad day, but don't take that out on the customer. At least the hostess was friendly. I also want to add that the menu has way too many options... maybe if there were less options, they could perfect some of their recipes in order for the food to taste better... Sometimes too many options is not a good thing.

Drove an hour to this supposedly special restaurant for our anniversary for their bbq rib special…read more Our entire experience was poor starting 5 minutes before our reservation time. We arrived 5 minutes early for our 5:00pm reservation and were told we needed to wait outside because they were having a meeting (it was 94 degrees outside). We then waited until 5:03pm when we were finally let in (now we are sweating profusely). Btw, when we were walking up they had just let others in and they were seated when we entered. Bad start, but we were hopeful our meal would be great. We were seated at the bar (per our reservation) and were handed one menu for the two of us. Our primary server was the bartender, who was quite kind but was in a tough spot with the owner watching her every move and ridiculing her right in front of us. They had no greens on their limited menu so we asked if they had any sort of side salad, but were ignored. We also asked if the ribs came with a vegetable; the owner did not know and said she would check with the chef. She never returned with an answer. The soup was good, the rest was below average. We ordered the focaccia which came in a brown paper bag and stapled?? The rib plate contained 3 ribs (which were dry, not very big and had little sauce). The ribs came with wasabi mashed potatoes, but there was no wasabi flavor to be found. If you are going to have a limited menu with one item, it better be really good - it was not. The owner made it a habit of asking everyone how their food was and before you could answer she would answer "yummy?" for you. Not only annoying, but it was obvious she did not really want to know. We almost felt like our presence was an inconvenience to the owner. Needless to say, we will not be back, nor will our dozens of friends who will hear about our experience.
