I hate Randall's. They're stupidly expensive if you don't sign up for a membership card, and the staff is rude and slow. Got home with food, noticed wine bottle was already half opened. Cork was only half there, rotten, and sideways in the neck. Immediately turned around and took it back. All I asked for was a replacement. Cashier and Manger immediately dismissed me, claiming Randall's doesn't offer returns or exchanges for alcohol products. Claimed it was TABC rules (pretty sure TABC rules don't preclude giving customers replacements for broken bottles). The manager told me I had to come back Monday during the day and talk to a different manager (apparently wanted me to take time off of work). I made it extremely clear I was only asking for a replacement bottle. Finally ended up giving me a replacement but told me it was "only this once." Why would it be only this once!? I can't rely on Randall's selling good food? Bottles that aren't broken? I have to inspect Randall's food before leaving? Definitely haven't ever had this problem anywhere else. This is my first couple of years living urban style and being able to walk to my grocery is so lovely, and what makes it even better is coming here and really feeling welcomed. The customer service is noticeable. I mean that because, when employees just work and don't cause issues, it's just a store and you get what you need and get out, no complaints, but when you walk in and at almost every corner, there's someone passing by with either a smile, or making sure you're ok. My wife is from Australia, and though you may not be able to imagine the severe differences between our two countries' stores, it's quite overwhelming and she was so happy to have the people at Randalls always willing to help her. Thank you Randalls...now find some more room and get some more stuff ;) read more

This location is really really disappointing at times, I live in the area and it seems the shelves are never fully stocked especially in the milk area, I've been at random times during the days weekends and weekdays always never able to get all the items on my list. Staff can be friendly but most just do their jobs (which is fine with me) Pharmacy is fast and friendly. For an update... I went into the store 10-16-15 and they decided to change out the self checkout draws at 4:30pm on a Friday, they only had two lanes open needless to say 20 minutes later I checked out, the line was wrapped around the store another disappointment at this location. read more

Okay here's the deal. We were out of the office today and heading back and had missed lunch. We were heading down louisana and thought let's pull in and grab something to bring back to the office. It was about 2:20. In their deli section we got a tuna sub and roast beef for a buck ninety eight for both! They were marked down after the lunch rush. Threw in some chips and a drink - a little over 5 bucks. My buddy got 4 big pieces of chicken for two bucks and change, again an after lunch special. So, it may not be the greatest of food....it's a grocery store. But if you need some food to keep the engine going and you happen to be near randalls. pull in- free parking, they have free wi-fi (randalls), upstairs couches. with a coke machine that costs 5o cents. No great shakes, but I've had a lot worse in downtown lunch dining. read more

The only reason that I am giving this store two stars is for the staff. Namely the back of the store staff. The people in the produce and meat departments are beyond friendly. They never fail to smile and ask how I am or if I need any help. The cashiers leave a lot to be desired. Thankfully this location has self check-out. This store is incredibly over priced. Still learning about Houston, and on this outing, i went to 2 grocery stores downtown, Randalls and Phoenicia. I'm reviewing both separately. So...this place was surprising, and not in a good way. It's small, which is fine, but prices are high, selection is terrible. And I almost threw up a bit when I say big orange "50% off" stickers on various items, particularly in the cold cases. Sour cream 8 days past its expiration still on the shelf, with the big orange sticker was just disgusting. There were many examples of that in a few of the refrigerator sections. Lines were long, and the customer service was not great. The only positive thing I will say is that the wine section was bigger than I expected. Which was helpful, since I needed a bottle after that shopping experience. Not going back. read more

When is this Randall's closing down like others in the area?! This will be a perfect location for an HEB to serve the midtown/downtown area. Prices are high and quality is not up to par! I am a Randells customer on louisiana st. for about 10 years now. I always thought a store is a store. But after my Wife and I came from a Krogers in River Oaks. I will always be a Randells customer. Krogers bakery had sad looking cupcakes and had No Easter Cupcakes. The Kroger store was sad nevertheless. Mr Cruz is over the Randells on louisiana St. On this app I can only give this store a 5 star but It Clearly Deserves A 10 Star. Used to be a quick stop in after work because it's convenient. The store itself was never impressive, but I'd stop in a couple days a week because I could be in and out in 5 minutes to grab something on my way home. Well the geniuses running the store decided to do away with the self checkout area meaning my 5 minute stop turned into 15-20 minutes. Convenience factor is now gone, which means so am I. Why they would get rid of self checkout in this day and age is mind boggling. Foolish decision and will cost them business. read more

The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because of location only since I live close. First off let me say you can barely walk in or out of the store without someone who is begging you for money, the so called security seems to be friends with the ones who are out begging and not telling them not to panhandle on the property. secondly, the employees here are some of the worst, I wont say all, but for the most part the majority of them only care about getting off work, do not go near customer service close to 8pm when they close, because the employees are ready to leave instead of assisting customers, same with the deli area. third, there are never enough lines open. Been going there for 4 years once a week during winter and crawfish season for propane exchange. Each time I go I'm getting between 7 and 10 tank exchange at a time. So the very first thing I do is look to see if any are capped (full) before I waste anyone's time in a purchase and if they didn't have any a refund. Once I counted 5 capped tanks I went inside. I ask the woman behind the counter where they sell cigarettes if I could do an exchange with her. She informed me they don't have any and I told her I counted a few but she insisted. As I was walking out side I went and counted again just to make sure. Went back and she sat there and told me she's been there all weekend and she's the one with the key. She explained how the shipment hadn't come yet and she was positive they were all empty and even asked a coworker (that wasn't part of this discussion, she was just walking past) if sometimes the propane tanks were capped and yet still empty. Truth of it all is she simply did not want to go outside. I'm half tempted to go back and ask for her manager to check the propane. And count how many are full. The fact that she argued instead of simply checking to assure me is makes me so upset. I'm the customer who wants to buy something even if you know you're out, still go check! read more

I recommend that you stand at the register and verify the price of every item before paying. Today, I had to return three bags full of items that I was overcharged for. These were items that were advertised in their circular or had digital coupons. The system simply didn't honor the coupons and prices. After I returned the items, I had to re-return to customer service because the staff hadn't refunded one of the items that I returned. read more

Remodeled recently. It's the best thing if you live in midtown. Just got back from target and it really made me appreciate Randall's even more. They have an organic section, their produce is fresh, parking in the bottom, and the Starbucks guy seriously makes my frappe taste less sugary than the one next to chipotle down the street. The issue I am about to discuss involves CUSTOMER SAFETY and has existed since this store has opened. Tonight I saw two situations that motived me to write this review. As I exited my vehicle I was immediately solicited for money by a man hanging out in the parking lot. I'm not to worried for my self so I jet said no and proceeded to the store. As I entered an elderly woman was walking out and before the door closed I could hear him hitting her up. I glanced back and he was basically in her face. The "security guard" was inside talking to an employee who obviously had nothing to do. There seemed to be a lot of employees with nothing to do depute long lines at the only two registers open. In a loud voice I informed him that there was an aggressive panhandler in the parking lot. He went outside. After I completed my shopping I saw the "guard" back in the A/C. I made eye contact with him and he shuffled back out the door. I exited the store and saw the "security guard" standing by the door totally focussed on his cell phone. I got in my car and as I drove out, literally 30 feet from the "guard" the same man was harassing a woman with 3 children. She looked obviously distressed and gave the man some money I'm sure she couldn't spare. The icing on this stale cake was the "guard" looked up from his phone at this and then looked back down without doing anything!! What?? What is this individual being paid for.......to play on his phone? I've lived in midtown for 10 years and this is the only business that I get hit up every time I visit. Safeway/Randall's senior management needs to give the manager of this store a kick in the ass and if that doesn't work, a kick out the door!! You are fooling with peoples SAFETY here!!!! Get it done. By the way, every time I go to an HEB, I see managers on the floor. I've never seen one at this Randall's, does it even have one?? Get out of the office, walk the store, walk the parking lot......do something!!!!!! I wish I could give a negative rating for years of continued CUSTOMER SAFETY issues and a total lack of action on them!! read more

I'm not sure how long this store will stay in business. Went on a Sat afternoon, one of the busiest shopping days, and it was dead. No fontina cheese in the deli, only one mango to choose from, none of their avocados were ripe. Very disappointed in their produce and deli. read more

This Randall's is very conveniently located for people living near downtown. It has wonderful customer service Monday through Friday fresh fruits /vegetables and quality Products. However it has constant unsafe situations with people begging and walking up on you inside & outside the store. Also Saturday afternoons and Sunday afternoons they have employees who are rude uncaring and the store is usually a mess. The employees on Saturday afternoons play in the store. Best time to go is Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. read more

**updated- see end of review** This review is ONLY for the FedEX services - I dropped a package off on Wednesday (12-28-16) for priority overnight shipping- The next day it was not delivered. After semi-arguing with the customer service (Christy & Angelo) about the whereabouts of the package... they in fact Do find that it was still at this Randalls and never left on Wednesday. I was ASSURED it would depart that Thursday (12-29-16 a day later than originally needed) and Angelo (the manager) would reimburse our costs of the shipping. Friday morning arrives (12/30/16) and the package still did NOT ship! I go pick up the package at 6:30AM on Friday - because now I have to change the shipping label to a Saturday, first over night delivery. First, it takes a little bit to locate the package again, then, I am told that "sometimes FedEx picks up and sometimes they don't" and that it's not Randalls fault. This is absolutely unacceptable and does not make sense - considering it is an authorized pick up/drop off location for FedEx. Randalls has said they will reimburse for BOTH shipping days - which now totals $150.00 - I will confirm whether this happens or not, when I return in just a little bit with the receipt. I have now filed a formal complaint with FedEx for two issues - First - if this location is to be an authorized drop off/pick up location, FedEx is to know that packages are not leaving this location and are being overlooked. This location is NOT reliable for any packages that are of urgency (e.g. overnight, two day shipments - anything that is needed by a deadline). Second - IF this is actually a FedEx issue (that the drivers "sometimes pick up and sometimes don't" - like the Randalls manager this morning- Debra - stated), then FedEx needs to be made aware that a driver(s) are not fulfilling their job and stopping at required locations. I have a Case ID# regarding these two formal complaints and should be contacted within two hours regarding the issue. While I know this is a long review - I want it to be made aware that any FedEx package that has any urgency should NOT be dropped off at this location. Our package was VERY important and will now arrive THREE days after it was supposed to - and only because I will be dropping it off at an actual FedEx store. The employees that I have now spoke with at this Randalls have also not be very "courteous" regarding this situation. In fact, they have been rather cold and slightly rude about this and not wanting to accept responsibility. That is not acceptable costumer service. A little accountability and friendliness would make this situation slightly easier to deal with. On a side note - we do use this pharmacy and the two pharmacist- Don & Mark- are absolutely wonderful and always helpful. ***UPDATE*** Angelo (The manager - I believe of the store, not just the customer service center) did in fact reimburse for the cost of both the original shipping & the new shipment for Saturday delivery which totals approx. $150.00 Angelo was very courteous, pleasant and completely understanding. He explained other issues & concerns that they have had with FedEx in general, which helped with understanding how this could have been an oversight on FedEx. I am still waiting for the Follow up on my formal complaint with FedEx regarding this issue. Because of how respectful, understanding & pleasant Angelo was, he very much helped to ease my frustration. A very sincere thank you to him, and I hope his other employees (e.g. the customer service managers and employees) can learn from him, that the way you speak to people (customers) can help diffuse a unhappy customer and keep a situation to a minimum complaint. I would still use caution if using this Randalls as a FedEx shipping location - one suggestion if you absolutely HAVE to use this location - go online and schedule a pickup for your package at this Randalls location. read more

Prices are decent but variety is lacking. It helps that its so close to downtown, but also explains why they don't try harder.

They are pretty helpful but they generally have only about half of the things that I am looking for. They have a good selection of wine and baked goods, though. I don't recommend the produce. Basically, if you want good service for very basic things, this is your place. read more

They are all so friendly and helpful! Anytime the lines get the slightest bit full the manager jumps in and cashiers and bags as needed. They are a great team with great prices and deals. Very poor quality for a relatively high price. Broken products are not uncommon. Extremely limited selection as well. It is definitely worth driving the extra couple of miles to the HEB on Alabama/Dunlavy. We only go here in a pinch and always regret it when we do. read more

CHECK EXPIRATION DATES ON ANYTHING YOU BUY FROM THIS LOCATION!!!I shop here once a week, spending a few hundred each trip. What I have found is the staff is friendly and helpful, always taking time to say hello and acknowledge any needs you may have. However, the managers are useless and wander around aimlessly. I constantly find expired food sitting on shelves. When I ask if there are anymore in back, mgt usually brushes it off and doesn't bother pulling the outdated items off shelves. Overall, the store is OK. It's opened late, convenient to Midtown, and the staff are relatively friendly, but as many other reviewers have noted, the prices are outrageous. Credit is deserved for their recent renovations and seemingly renewed interest in the Midtown location. I have also noticed greater emphasis on the freshness of their fruits and vegetables and they are clearly beginning to cater to a more diverse clientele with an expanded international selection. On the downside, they have terminated the self-serve checkout option, and the cashiers are incredibly slow (not just a little slow, incredibly slow). My recurring concern with Randall's is that their systems do not ring-up the correct prices as advertised; particularly items on sale, but not exclusively. I don't know if anyone else has caught on to this, but it's a terrible problem and one that has plagued this particular location since I moved to the area three years ago. Words cannot describe the frustration felt when your items are being rung-up at an incorrect price and there is a massive line behind you at the cash register. Nobody wants to be 'that guy'... I have brought this to the attention of several managers at the store, but they seemed indifferent. It has gotten to the point where I have to believe that this practice is intentional, and not just an infrequent and unfortunate mistake. Tonight i want to talk about consistency. People should not have to drive all the way across town to shop because we cant shop in our own living communities because we are not being treated equally. I had a come to Jesus meeting with the staff and management tonight at Randalls (Midtown Houston location) about their inconsistencies and unfairness to customers that patronize their store. I was in the store on Friday morning and I forgot my wallet at the house on accident and my phone number was not coming up in the system and they made a huge deal out of it and didnt want to give me the Discount from the card and there were 2 employees who know me well and i speak to them in depth every time i am there however there was an employee checking me out who was new or something that didnt know who i was but everyone else did and they told me that management was not letting them just scan a random new card for customers whether we know who you are or not. I was having an emergency situation and i had a client on the way and didnt have time for all of the drama anyway they eventually gave it to me but not without a lot of attention an embarrassment......Tonight i was in Randalls and 2 guys were in front of me and they didnt have their Randalls card. The employee walked over got a new card scanned it and handed it to the guys and they paid for their items and were on their way without being harassed about not having their Randall card..... i asked to speak to the management on duty and we talked in depth about the lack of consistency...... i am also going to talk to the store manager tomorrow as well as call corporate.
