This place is the definition of local. Definitely has mom and pop vibes and is loaded with a variety of baked good that'll stimulate your appetite. From sugary donuts to savory pasties they're cooking it up nicely and the prices are low. Easy parking. Walk in and get your order and the counter and you're good to go. They have a fair amount of seating in case you wanna enjoy your food on site. The people are friendly and serving up good stuff at a good value. A taste of UP Michigan. I was able to catch my first pasty straight from the oven. So flaky, so steamy. Loaded with potatoes and a taste meat and onions. Some may not like that ratio, but was a perfect lining to my stomach for a long haul. I passed over all the fresh sugar bomb carbs, until I came across the brown mystery bag. Sugar toast was all I needed to hear to know that's what I wanted to nibble on for the next couple of hours. Crunch, crunch, CRUNCH! I just let it dissolve in my mouth. I would need a monthly dentist visit if I ate this everyday...and more cardio in my life. read more

OUR FAMILY LOVE RANDALL's!!! Pasties, Paczkis (Fat Tuesday), prune danish, apricot danish, butter roll, coconut twist, glazed, fritters (best with maple icing), best potato rolls and hamburger buns anywhere. Anadama bread, wild rice cranberry bread too, special breads usually need a special order, unless you're lucky enough to catch a loaf on the counter. I agree with prior reviews. Randall Bakery is a gem in a small town in the Upper Peninsula. There's not much else in Wakefield, but if you're driving by, I'd stop in and grab a pasty to go. Otherwise, they have your usual baked goods and diner coffee. I had a breakfast pasty first and it was really good. I don't eat a ton of breakfast pasties, but this one was definitely enjoyable eating outside my car in the parking lot. As for the regular pasty, I heated a frozen one in my oven and it passed about every test outside of not having a crimped handle. I could've used a touch more crust - a handle would help - but otherwise, the pasty was great. They also have a variety of options, but I believe they change by the day. read more

The. Best. Pasties. EVER. Whether you get them fresh there, or order the frozen ones to take home and cook, the pasties here are so incredibly good they've ruined pasties from anywhere else for us. While the innards of the pasties at other highly regarded places in the Upper Peninsula are pretty much the same as the ones here, there's just no contest on the crust. It's got that Goldilocks just-right combination of crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and just a teensy bit doughy in the middle. Not too thin, not too thick. Definitely the culinary highlight of our recent visit to my in-laws. I'd be willing to drive pretty significantly out of my way to get these pasties every time we're in the UP. Generally, the in-laws who live just over the border in Wisconsin save us the trip by stocking up whenever they are in town. read more

Don't believe the "takeout only"...walked in and received great customer service...and then I bit into my pastie!!! Oh my Wherever you are coming from, it is worth the drive to come here. And, they even give you preprinted instructions to prepare your breakfast pastie the next day. read more

While passing through Wakefield I decided to drive through the downtown (always worth doing when passing these small towns with historic building) and I spotted this bakery with "pasties" advertised. Stealing a page off of Martin Stern I've been doing my own little U.P. pasty tour (where you randomly get an pasty and then assign it a place in you're ranking system). I walked in at the right time, because there was just one person ahead of me, but a half dozen in line shortly after (and only 3 pasties warming in the glass case). I got a pasty and a oatmeal cookie, and the cookie was above average, but the pasty just took the #1 spot in my personal U.P. pasty rankings! To be fair I've only had 6-7 pasties thus far, but this was my favorite one yet, and it wasn't a hard decision, so I imagine The Randall Bakery could hold this spot for a while. What really made this pasty superior to others was the perfect balance of ingredient, and by far the best crust) nicely uniform lightness, whereas many of the others are too doughy, especially in some spot). Maybe it will be held for over fifty years like George Sisler's record for hits by a right handed batter until Kirby Puckett's 1988 season where he had an incredible 234 hits and batted .356 (all by memory this info can be found on the 1989 Puckett Donruss card). read more

THIS is the place! The pasties are the first thing I deliver to a new neighbor, recommend to visitors and often a quick dinner at my house! Don't worry if it's early and you're in town breakfast ones are available. The sweet treats are good on any day that ends in day and special occasions at our house will always be celebrated next to one of their cakes! Stopped here for lunch..a Pasty of course! Plus I also purchased a couple chocolate chunk cookies. The pasty was hot. Really hot. I had to wait a bit to try it. The meat and potatoes inside were delicious. Not at all dry. The cookies were great too. A little gem in the middle of no where! Highly recommend! read more

Great "Cornish" pasty. Flavorful, flakey crust, and pretty much a true Yooper "Finnish" pasty. A nice beef/pork mix with good size chunks of rutabaga, carrots, and potatoes. Also the Cardamom "dunking" toast is really good! Covered with butter it is better than the cinnamon/sugar variety. This place is a must stop restaurant/bakery when in the Sunday Lake area. read more

This place is great and has amazing food. Me and my family love going there and most of all of the food is for a GREAT price. They have delicious cookies for just 60 cents! They also have great pasties that are really, really, good. It also has great donuts. I highly recommend it and you usually don't have to wait long at all for your food. read more

We stopped at Randall's bakery on a bit of a whim while looking for a place to grab lunch. We all agreed that the pasties that we had were perhaps the best we've ever had. The waitress, Mel, was an absolute pleasure. I highly recommend this bakery. Clearly one of the best in the north!! read more

I'm 55 now and have been coming to Randall's for Pastys for 40+ years. It's by far the best ones on the face of the earth. My folks were from here and my Uncle lived in Wakefield. I used to help him farm during the summers while I was in high school. Within minutes , we'd find a way to get to Randall's for Pastys, and Bakery. It would be our last stop on the way home to get some for the ride home back to Milwaukee and fill up the cooler with frozen Pastys for the winter. read more

Hands-down the best pasties you will ever eat. From the tender lardy crust to the perfectly seasoned filling with expertly proportioned potatoes and beef, it doesn't get better than this. I also had a cherry turnover, which was above-average and the filling was clearly not from a can. I was informed by both another customer and the proprietor that they were already out of everything good (~11:00 saturday morning) so next time I'll go earlier and get the even better stuff. This is a do-not-miss for future trips to the western UP. Skip the coffee. read more

Randall Bakery was established in 1944. Since then we have been known for our fried doughnuts and danish but especially for our pasties. Our pastie recipe has been in the family since its inception and has stayed the same all these years, Fresh breads and buns are baked daily. We sell more Italian bread than all of our other breads combined and our potato bun is our best selling bun, literally selling hundreds of dozens on major holidays.

Randall Bakery in its current location was started in 1944 by James Randall. The business was then passed on to son Roger and most recently to grandson Rick. The original recipes have remained intact as much as possible and are still used to this day.
