This bakery is known for their Patsies (hand pie). Downtown Ironwood, MI- only real bakery and my favorite (real) pasty's!! Feels like home.

I have been ordering and enjoying Rigoni's pasties (regular and Cornish!) for years and they never disappoint, but this year we ordered the calzones to give them a try. I knew the calzones would be good, but I did not expect then to be so out of this world! We ordered the pepperoni, mushroom and sausage calzones and had them shipped to Michigan. The flavor, texture, size, and everything were perfect. The ingredients were super yummy and in the right proportions. Everything balanced. I also think the Rigoni secret weapon is the crust they use and make from scratch. They tasted how you want your calzone to taste, but rarely do. We really couldn't stop talking about them and about when we could order more. They are perfect for a quick and hearty meal because there is no prep....just take out of the freezer and bake per their directions. We often bake during the week when we're too busy to make something and want a satisfying meal without the hassle. If you like pasties and/or calzones, then don't hesitate to order online if you don't live nearby. I live in Michigan and found the product to be shipped very well on lots of icepacks and in an insulated enclosure to ensure they arrived safely and promptly. We cook the pasties and calzones from frozen. Follow the directions they send for cooking (thawed or frozen) and they will turn out perfectly! read more

You have to stop here. The pasties are amazing, granted it's the first pastie I've had so keep that in mind. The donuts are pretty fantastic (I'm a bit of a donut snob, Krispy Kreme is disgusting along with Hurt's donuts, I love a well executed donut). I'm a bit hesitant to start critiquing Upper Peninsula pasties on Yelp but I'm going to dive in headfirst -- prefacing my review with the following disclaimer: "The 'perfect pasty' is what a pasty eater prefers therefore MY reviews reflect MY taste." On to the review. . . Today I stopped at Rigoni's on the recommendation of a local resident. He said he prefers Rigoni's to other prominent local establishments because their traditional pasties don't have a lot of onions. I enjoyed my pasty from Rigoni's, but I'm afraid I don't agree with him regarding onions -- partly because I love onions and I use them liberally in my cooking -- and mostly because, to my taste, onions add flavor, sweetness and a bit of moisture to the pasty filling. The pasty pastry was fine but the seam roll was a bit small and the crimping was sloppy. I prefer a half inch thick rolled seam with basic yet decorative crimping from end to end. The balance of meat to potato was good. The potato was uniformly diced and cooked. The meat was finely ground, well seasoned and evenly distributed throughout the filling. I've had Rigoni's pasties frozen (then baked at home) and fresh from the bakery. Fresh from the bakery is definitely better. The pastry was flakier and the filling was appropriately moist. Baked at home the pastry was slightly gooey and the filling was a bit dry. That said, I'll be happy to take and bake a Rigoni's pasty any day and I think you will too. Looking ahead I'll be cooking several frozen UP pasties at the same time for a head to head comparison -- I'll update my review when I do. read more

Rigoni's has the best pasties in the area. The service is always friendly, and the baked goods are fresh and amazingly delicious. We don't get into town much anymore, maybe 1-2 times per year. Rigoni's is always the first, or one of the first stops. I will be passing through Ironwood on U.S. 2 in a few weeks. I will make a detour in to town just to stop in to Rigoni's for a couple fresh, and a couple frozen pasties. As with anything, the fresh version of their pasties is always going to be better, but the frozen option is still better than most in the area when you take them home to heat up later. Second Time Ordering-SECOND TIME THEY ARE THAWED!! At the moment, I AM LIVID!!! This is the second time I've ordered a dozen pasties from Rigoni's and the second time they arrived THAWED OUT! Once again the box was falling apart, AND ONCE AGAIN THERE WAS NO DRY ICE PLACED IN THE BOX!!! When I ordered, I specifically told them NOT TO FORGET THE DRY ICE, because my last order was thawed. The first time it happened was kind of expected because it was in the summer time. After receiving a gift card from Rigoni's, I waited until winter weather has arrived. This bakery is such a little gem! The pasties were very full with meat and potatoes. Great crust. Not too dry or too greasy and yet you can still taste the crust. The potatoes are cubed and not reconstituted hash browns like some places are using up here. The flavor was definately our new favorite. We each had the most basic pasty for there were many varieties to chose from, which is a bonus! Now for the baked goods...we not only ate a pasty but had to have a little something sweet afterwards. Can you imagine a cinnamon-peanut butter sweet roll with a maple glaze on top??? Well, now you can enjoy one for yourself. Its a showstopper along with the sticky-ooey-gooey deliciousness of a Carmel pecan praline sweet roll...HEAVENLY! The Fritters are another family favorite. Don't be afraid when you hear maple glaze! Oh my gosh so much YUMMY in this place! We were lucky to find Rigoni's bakery during our recent wedding in Ironwood Michigan. They catered breakfast for 95 people with breakfast pasties, muffins, danishes, donuts, and a fruit platter. All of our guests were so impressed with the quality for the food from this bakery. Breakfast pasties are the world's best hangover food and I wish they were available in the lower peninsula where we live. Twice a year we make a trip to Michigan solely for pasties...eating and critiquing and eating again. Rigonis is the best flaky dough yet solid enough to hold the crammed full moist and flavorful filling. Yes, yes everyone says go to Joe's but for a real treat go to this dumpy hole in the wall. What service! I phoned from CA wanting to order cupcakes for a young friend's birthday. Nicky was a great example of customer service as she attended to my request. 25 cupcakes will be ready for the 4th grade class on Friday, I know, and they'll be nicely decorated, I'm guessing, and for .50 a cupcake?
