Our check was wrong, got it changed and it came back wrong again twice. Took 30 minutes just for them to get checks sorted. Our whole table paid and then they brought another check claiming someone didn't pay after every check was signed and accounted for. The queso dip with the chopped jalapeños was delicious! My boyfriend got a steak fajita, there's not much roam for failure when it comes to a fajita. They executed it perfectly! I can't exactly remember the name of the plate I got but it was a chile relleno with Shrimp,mushroom, and cheese wrapped with steak. The dish had all the flavors there with the perfect bit of spice as well. It was a bit messy eating but it could of been the way I came at it. The service here is always great! I'm used to Tex-Mex, so my review of the food could be a little skewed. Service was quick for lunch and they have a pretty large space to seat customers. So easy to fill up on tortilla chips and salsa. My opinion, the salsa could use a little more spice to it. Although I wouldn't recommend the chunky guacamole dip. We requested jalapenos, but there was no real flavor at all. Definitely needed adobo or salt. I liked the options in the combo meal. The tamale was more masa than pork, but you did get a large tamale. The burrito is huge and you can definitely make 2 meals out of it. Definitely go for the queso upgrade. When I go back, I'll try more on the menu, but the combo is the best bang for the buck, especially during lunch hours. read more

I can't remember our server's name, but she was the cutest and sweetest person ever. She did an amazing job serving us. The chips and salsa were complimentary and was very delicious. The chips were thick which is a major plus. I ordered a texana frozen mango margarita....Wow!!! This place does well with drinks!! Their menu is a little similar to El Reals. Let me preface this review that we came in as a family of 7 with 3 boys under the age of 5. Thankfully, the fully enclosed porch was wide open and it was a great space for the boys to "let loose" and be boys. Based on the amount of chips that were in the floor, they did just that. The server took it all in stride and was kind and helpful throughout. Food came out very fast and OMG...it was great!! My pina colada, served in an actual pineapple rind, was the bomb. The guacamole, dare I say, might be the best I've ever had and I have it pretty much at every Mexican restaurant I go to. Chunky, flavorful and FRESH!! Ordered street corn as a side. Fun atmosphere with solid fare, the specialty rice 3 way is our new favorite Mexican comfort food! Bathed in cheese and full of savory meat you should definitely try it! The street corn was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the carnitas bowl was solid. Unfortunately the fried cheesecake was a disappointment being served still frozen in the middle. I came here actually in May with a friend of mine just after lunch to have a beer and get a bite to eat, and was really pleasantly pleased! Nice ambience, service was spot on, food was really tasty. I have not had a stuffed Pablano pepper in a while so I thought I would give there's a try . My buddy got some shrimp and steak fajitas... I think he special ordered it... But that's what he wanted and that's what he got and all of it was fantastic! The pepper was stuff for chicken for me and cheese and I got rice and beans for a pretty large plate of food. The fajitas looked really good and the steak was not overcooked and he liked it quite well. We both had a couple of beers each tried to dodge the chips, but he ordered queso so here come the chips... I just try to stay away, but I can't. They are cursed! Every Mexican restaurant I go to has chips and salsa on the table and I cannot seem to get away from eating more than I should but either way, great place, great service, food was really nice and the atmosphere was nice. A Fajita bowl, Chicken quesadilla, Three Way burrito, and Chili Relleno with beef and queso over the top. Everything was great for round two! Wow. Great Mexican restaurant. We came in from out of town and were very surprised and impressed. It's nothing earth shatteringly different from what you expect but it's done very well. Not sure if the tortilla chips they are using are tough or had been sitting out. Ordered tacos, tamales, street corn. The pastor tacos were very good but ask for cheese if you want cheese. The beef was bland and had no seasoning. The shrimp , the same. Void of seasonings. The tamale was good but not made there. We love street corn and was so excited for the corn. The seasonings, and cheese was perfect but the corn was frozen and steamed or boiled. Very soggy and without taste. The corn was not sweet or crisp as fresh corn would be. I wasn't going to write this review but this has bothered me too much not to call it out. We are regulars here. The food and margaritas are good but our last experience here left a bad taste in my mouth. I got the "any two items" for $11.50 and substituted my rice for plantains, which I understood might be a couple more dollars. I also requested the 12oz regular house margarita (instead of the 20oz advertised). Lastly, I asked if they could drizzle cheese sauce on my chicken enchiladas (as I always do). When we got our bill my husband said, "your meal was $21.50. I brought this--sure mistake--to the waiters attention, who brought it to the manager. He then came back and said "the manager said your plantains and cheese sauce brought the bill up, he went ahead and DISCOUNTED it for you though" I'm sorry, what? 3 TBSP worth of cheese sauce and 3 small plantains doubled the cost of my meal? I was also charged for a 20oz margarita instead of the 12 oz ordered and provided, which was not corrected. I found this to be incredibly dishonest and disappointing business. read more

The newest Mexican Joint in town is remarkably better and different from all the others. They set themselves apart from the run-of-the-mill Mexican Restaurants in some interesting ways. This is Mex-Tex because it is almost more of a Mexican Barbecue Sports Bar and Grill than a traditional Mexican/American restaurant. The complimentary salsa is very tasty and it goes well with the whole grain tortilla chips. We each had the Mad Mex Burritos. Chunks of Smoked Beef Brisket were inside these nice sized portions of tortilla wrapped burritos covered with cheese sauce. The side dishes are home fried potato chips and a tasty coarse cut cole slaw. This departed from the normal beans and rice that traditionally is the food least eaten and most thrown away at any restaurant. In other words - that food is wasted. Rancho Viejo's side dishes should get eaten and enjoyed more often. Lauren did a great job as our server, and we enjoyed speaking with the manager. The interior is beautiful. Polished concrete floors, well lit with eclectic and interesting fixtures, foam insulated roof decking above that is bright and helps with acoustics, and mismatched and multicolored chairs that brighten up the place. The bathrooms were well designed, beautiful, and spotlessly clean. There is both an outdoor patio and a rooftop terrace. Once the heat breaks we will be dining on the roof in the fall just to enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, the cost of the food was a good value for the money and we really enjoyed the meal. The tacos looked good and tasted better. Our husbands had the tamale plate. The plate presentation was beautiful! The guys said that they were good. You know how men are, so hard to get further comments without pulling teeth. The menu even offers "cactus leaves" as a side dish. I'll have to try that next time. The music wasn't traditional Mexican music, but rock n roll. My favorite! The dining room is clean, as was the ladies room. The service was great, without being obtrusive.
