First time eating here. My Husband and I have had a hard time finding the best Mexican food similar taste from our home state. In my whisper voice we're from Ca. No worries I assure you ,we moved here for the right reasons! :-) Any who...this place didn't disappoint. If you haven't eaten here you're missing out!! I wish I took pictures! Fantastic Mexican food! The best I've found in the area and I thought we'd tried them all. The chips are homemade and the salsa is served warm and has great flavor. However, I mixed in some of their green salsa (spicier than the red) and it heated mine up just like I like it! Love their refried beans and the waiter brought us a sample of their Charro beans which are not pintos, they're Peruvian beans and they're amazing! Chicken enchiladas are made from pulled white AND DARK meat which to me, the dark meat adds more flavor and natural juices making for tastier enchiladas. We sub'd pulled chicken on our nachos in lieu of the fajita chicken and hit another home run. We'll be back in a day or two to try a couple other dishes for sure... we can't wait!!! read more

Hands down, the best Mexican food I've ever had. Everything is made to order. Chunky, fresh guacamole...perfect chips with the spot on warm homemade salsa. Fajitas were amazing with bacon, peppers and fork tender beef and chicken. Wrapped in what else but handmade tortillas! We've been eyeing this place for a long time and we finally had the courage to try it yesterday. I wish we've gone here sooner because they have one on of the most flavorful, good quality, beef fajitas in the area. The mini tacos are amazing, especially with that green sauce. The place is clean. The lady even wiped the salsa bottle before bringing it to the table. Not many places do that! Our server is super nice. And Carlos, the owner, is very friendly. I wish this business a huge success because of the great food and service. I can't wait to try the pastor! Please note that this is a small place so don't expect any draft beers. Hopefully they will get one soon so we can come during dinner (and spend more on drinks) instead of lunch. read more

Stopped in at Rana's for lunch on our way home to Dallas from a cruise and I'm so glad we picked this place! I've been cooking and eating Mexican food my entire life and I have to say that Rana's food was as authentic as it gets for most restaurants. There weren't a lot of fancy decorations but the food and the service were fantastic. Everyone was so attentive and helpful. We ordered the small guacamole for an appetizer. It was freshly made and deliciously simple. Not too many ingredients that can overpower the taste of the avocado. I had the Caldo Tlapeno which was quite tasty with shredded chicken in a light broth that had just the right amount of spice. My husband had Rana's Combo with a pork tamale and chicken enchilada. Both were delicious and well seasoned. A quick test of how good Mexican food will be at a restaurant is either by the tortillas or the rice. If those are good then most likely the rest will be too. Didn't have tortillas but the rice was great! Looked and tasted a lot closer to the kind of rice we make at home than what I've had at other Mexican restaurants. And I loved the warm salsa! We will definitely come back next time we pass through town. read more

THE MINI TACOS!!!!!!!! Wow, one of the best Mexican dishes that I've had in a while. The sour cream chicken enchiladas were also the bomb, with chicken fajita meat, of course. Please don't forget the green sauce for the mini tacos, it's a nice add, but the meat is just plain excellent. Last, the chunky guacamole is a must have. I can tell you that Rana's is truly in a class by itself. The freshness and authenticity is par excellence. Start with the guacamole. I would have given this place 5 stars for the taste of the food. But way overpriced on certain things. We came in for a late lunch it was just us. We sat down the manager asked if we wanted guac and chips to start. We said yes not realizing at the time the price. Looking through the menu I saw the guac was 4.99. I thought to myself that it was a little pricy. The whole meal was delicious then the bill came. That bowl of quac was 8.99 cause it was the large!!! which didn't really look like a large at all. It isn't even that expensive to make so apparently they think theirs is made with gold avocados. Just beware the little expense the manager trys to tack on your bill when you walk in. Great Mexican food in Conroe! Reasonable prices! I had the chili verde enchiladas one with carnitas and one with beef fajita..both were yummy! Make sure to ask for the green spicy sauce if you like your food with a little more heat. Its delicious with just the right amount of kick. People must have really low standards..or else places like Jack in the Box and Dennys wouldn't exist. Pros (because I want to be fair): Nice, clean place and the service was friendly. Cons: the food. No homemade tortillas??? This is TEXAS. I find that unacceptable. She did say they were homemade but purchased in a package and heated up there...ok that's not really homemade darling... Salsa hot like marinara- not my thing. Chips definitely didn't taste homemade. I guess living in Texas and experiencing better food has spoiled me. The reviews looked promising. We went. It took forever to get service because only one person was working. The Spanish rice was cooked in lard, it was so mushy and gross that it was inedible. Queso is average, fajitas were great, atmosphere is ok, old uncomfortable chairs that you find in old school diners while they play music from the 50's. Awesome food and the service was great. We will definitely be coming back. We had shrimp and a taco salad. They were both tremendous.

We found this diamond in the rough restaurant and returned several times due to delicious food and excellent, friendly staff. The Pollo Habanero dish is perfect if you want a little kick of spice in the meal. The Rana's Nachos are also excellent and worthy of making into your entree. It was a bit pricey on my opinion as we came out of there with quite a high bill for 3 people but otherwise the decor, the service and the food were great. It's a cute little place in a shopping strip that's tucked away and probably only known by the locals.
