Ramses claims to be gastronomy, and I think it provides a good attempt. It was refreshing to try some neo-classic Spanish dishes after days of eating very traditional Spanish cuisine. I enjoyed: * Strawberry Gazpacho * Cappelletti of Red Prawn, Mascarpone, Bullabesa Extract, and its Tartare * Grilled Octopus Leg, Black Garlic Aioli, and Fried Yuca * Mango Tartare, Strawberry Foam, and Crispy Chia Seed Chip The waitstaff did seem like they had a little bit of attitude toward non-Spanish speakers. It was almost like they were annoyed to serve tourists. I spoke a little Spanish, and tried to use as much Spanish as possible to avoid being on their black list. FYI The bread and amuse bouche are automatically given upon seating, and you will be charged. There is no such warning on the menu or by any of the waitstaff. The prices are very high for the quality it offers. I spent about 100 euros for my meal, and have definitely had much better gastronomy meals at other restaurants with better service (1 star off). If you don't mind paying the premium price to sit outdoors on the Plaza de la Independencia while trying hard not to be blacklisted by the waitstaff, then this restaurant is for you. read more

You know those places that look high end and the servers are all snooty and give you a side eye even if all you do is ask for your cheque - well this is that place . Very upscale vibes and we came in just on a whim even though we were enroute to a different place . we did not want dinner because we had plans so ordered a small steak tartar and some wine and the tartar I must say was good . The outdoor seating was warm on a cool night and so much great people watching with the holiday lights in full swing. As far as the food, I did say it was great however as being a dessert lover they were very lackluster and I would've ordered another glass of wine instead. Very rude young lady at the hostess stand. We were three minutes before opening at noon and she sent us to the next restaurant. We waited. When we walked back at 12:03 when they were open, she walked right between us and the hostess stand and not only didn't we speak, she did not even look at us. We are eating next door at Patio de Leones which is wonderful! It is now 12:53 and still no customers. Their reviews on trip advisor are more accurate than the ones I read here. read more

Although the food was excellent, the service was poor. Our server was unfriendly from the moment we sat down. Others who came to the table were efficient but also not warm. The ambiance was nice but the overall attitude of the patrons was not....they were made up of self absorbed, privileged snobs. But the worst part was that several patrons smoked during dinner. On our first night in Madrid, we walked by and on a whim decided to have our first dinner here. The vibe was upscale and it was a beautiful night. It seemed promising at first but once the food came, we realized it was just an overpriced tourist trap. I got the spicy chicken dish and it was under seasoned and just nothing to get excited about. My husbands steak was way undercooked. They also charged for bread service that we didn't even ask for. I wouldn't have minded but the bread didn't even taste good! The service was ok. Near Puerta de Alcala in Madrid, you can find authentic Japanese fare with Mediterranean influence that combines, forming innovative gastronomic delights that can please a wide range of palates. Natsuki, part of Restaurant Ramses.Life, means "seven moons", and is a new take on Japanese cuisine. My friend and I were excited to try Natsuki, and finally had the opportunity to meet there for dinner one evening. The restaurant design is truly unique, and according to our server, took three years of development before décor was finalized. The ceiling is painted with bright watercolors in blues, pinks, greens and oranges, while traditional cultural décor accents the modern touches. I loved the King prawn tempura with spicy mayo sauce and shiitake mushroom. There was just enough spice to keep me on my feet, with the tender, fresh prawns packing quite a punch. He loved the blow torched tuna belly nigiri with spicy sesame oil the best, and claimed the seasoned sesame oil added the right level of heat and nuttiness. We also tried blow torched yellow-tail nigiri with aioli, which was fresh and delicious, which the aioli added creamy flavor that was perfect with the texture of the sushi. The same was true for the tiger roll, which is king prawn tempura with avocado and cream cheese, as the creamy texture of the avocado mixed with the prawns and crisp tempura delighted my taste buds. To finish our meal, we each ordered dessert. I enjoyed brioche torrija with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, while his Mochi with mango ice cream, red berries and coconut foam was as beautiful as it was delicious. As if you needed more reasons to visit Ramses.Life, Natsuki comes highly recommended. read more

I loved this place! The only bad thing was the service. They kept forgetting what we ordered and answered back saying that we never ordered the food that was missing... the customer is always right. My girlfriend and I did an 11 day trip in Morocco. On our way home, we had an 18 hour layover in Madrid so we decided to go out to dinner/etc. We asked around and a lot of locals and tourists alike recommended Ramses. We arrived a minute before closing (the dinner room) and were rushed to order since the kitchen was closing. Sure, no problem. They had a steak on the menu from Galicia. My whole dads side of the family is originally from Galicia so of course I had to order it! It was heavenly...seriously. I know my steak. This was so tender it melted in my mouth. It was so well presented and just wow... Ramses also has an extensive wine selection. You can find any wine in your budget. Now moving on to the downstairs...so after dinner we proceeded downstairs where there was definitely a party going on. It was so much fun. The crowd was very chic and we had ourselves a great time. Definitely check out Ramses! It was the perfect ending to our 11 day vacation! read more

A great location at Puerta de Alcala across from Retiro Park, Ramses is is a three floor restaurant with the bottom a "small club", the middle a chic bar and restaurant and the top another dining area with a separate bar that is open on weekends or for private occasions. They also have a pretty big terrazza, which is awesome in the summer time. Ive been to Ramses about half a dozen times for a drinks and dinner. My experience with the food has been hit or miss. Sometimes the food has been really good, but on a bad day the food has been really very average. It seems that on the busy nights, the kitchen just can't quite keep up. The bar though is always solid. The crowd is a little more mature (read older), which I appreciate. Its still a see-and-be-seen sort of a place, but I imagine just a mere shadow of how it must have been when it first opened. On the whole, Ramses is a bit of a is a jack of all trades but master of none with a bar, restaurant, terrazza and club. In the summer, I like it for the terrazza and the bar is always a good choice for a drink after dinner but before you go to the club (11p-1a). read more

We only came here for a post dinner cocktail. Sat on the patio which was about a 5-10 minute wait. The bar specializes in cigars and hookah, so if you don't like smoke I'd skip this one. Outside the smoke wasn't too bad with a breeze coming through. Fun, lively atmosphere with umbrellas lights, candles and fire pits. Service is a bit slow during the busy times but if you aren't in a hurry that's no problem. I would imagine that trying to get food is a bit of a hassle. They have an extended alcohol list of both Spanish and other country liquors. We ordered a bottle of champagne and it came with a fun set of fireworks. read more

The weight staff will ignore you a bit but are quick enough, the food is good but still a bit overpriced, and they make the place out to be a nightclub / dinner experience which is a bit much and can get very loud and overcrowded with drunken businessmen looking to catch a piece of ditsy model behind. Final Verdict: Overall I think it's worth the stop and experience if not only to just laugh at the pretentiousness of it all. Food is good but nothing that will blow your mind. read more

If you're in madrid and want a good but intimate nightlife scene, this is the place to go. Great bartenders and drinks.. they can actually make a great Old Fashioned here! yum.. It's a small bar with good dance music, some lights and then they open up a VIP section on another level which is very fun! With that said, I didn't realize they could cook a good Filet Mignon in Spain.. but they had an incredible one there. Great place for dinner and drinks! Sent here by hotel recommendation. Totally impressed by the wait staff, very attentive and very well trained. We had beignet de crevette to start, shrimp in a delicious fried coating. I had a delicious pasta dish with Parmesan and sub-dried tomatoes. We had a delicious red Spanish wine and very good desserts. They had a Moet special going and it was good. The staff was not helpful. I was there with my college age kids. Maybe the upscale staff thought they were too good to serve a family. After an hour and a half, they served us the desert we ordered and the host came to our table and told us we had 10 minutes to complete our dinner so he could seat another table. We still had food in front of us and the waitress was offering us coffee. 2 hour meals are typical in Spain. I spoke to the manager who gave my wife and I a free drink as compensation. Really? a drink we didn't want after being insulted in front of my family. This place thinks way to much of themselves. Do yourself a favor and enjoy real Spanish hospitality somewhere else. read more

Quite clearly huge amounts of money - probably seven figures - have been spent on the interior decoration of this swanky, self-consciously fashionable and trendy place right opposite the Puerta de Alcalá, one of Madrid's most famous and emblematic landmarks. The iconic Philippe Starck is in fact the designer. Funky bar downstairs, then no fewer than three separate restaurants on successive floors, each more opulently and extravagantly designed than the previous one. On the top floor there are fabulous private dining areas. Is it worth going to? Well, it might be if, once past the silly bouncers, you could get a guided tour lasting just two minutes by one of the plastic women with rictus smiles who greet you, and then out like a shot. This place thinks it's an elite experience when it's just tacky, pointlessly expensive and totally without depth, charm or meaning. It's probably just right for Russian would-be oligarchs or even real oligarchs. There were actually women in there with leopardskin patterns on their clothes, botox faces, plastic paps and ultra-violet sunbed fake tans - the sure-fire sign of high-tack. The problem is not the design, which has genuine moments of humour, warmth and harmony, or the lighting, which is intelligent and thoughtful here and there, but the food, which is complete rubbish. At least the food on the mezzanine floor restaurant (is it different further up - I am told it's more "high end" up there). It's just lazy, fussy, pointless and embarrassingly pretentious. It's a confused hybrid medley of Mediterranean, Japanese and who knows what. Uninspired, insipid, pointless. The table is backlit white, so you can't actually see the food, even though the plates are transparent. Which is why I have no photos to offer on this occasion, because I was hardly going to use flash and draw attention to the fact I was there, was I? And then of course they hit you with a silly bill for this vapid, gruelling experience. One of the many exciting things about the credit-crunch and its concommitant consequences is that places like this will close, never to return again. read more

Really creative food and fabulous atmosphere. 2 great apps - sardines and Gambas escobeche were devine as was the chef's complimentary "bite" which pulpo carpaccio which was unbelievable- I could eat a whole plate. My fiancé had the cod with cauliflower cream which he said was cooked to perfection and he said was the best he has ever had. My friend wanted to take me here but after being ignored by the vapid little girl hostess outside when there clearly were 4 empty tables we tried inside and were met by equally vapid and basic man bun douches. They thought they could ignore us but guess what geniuses my friend knows the owner so jokes on you! Anyway after an annoying almost hour after ordering the shitty " artisinal baby sized ice creams and spending over 100 euros on that plus champagne while being assaulted by crappy house music and low self esteem Annie queens taking selfies in the empty bar we had enough and left. This was definitely not a great first impression on someone from LA who is used to higher quality service and food. My daughter and I were here September 3rd, excited, ready for an awesome, happy mid-day, afternoon holiday relax on the patio (we had even already decided on what to order!) only to be greeted by the most unpleasant, nasty girl in all of Madrid (as far as our visit was concerned).
