Overall, it was great. I was in town visiting the area for a few days, and this place was highly recommended by Chilly Billy from Delta Bohemian Tours. He said, they have the best fried shrimp. So, I went, ordered it and was very happy with the food and service. The meal came with a side salad, plate of fried shrimp and a choice of sides. I picked the baked potato.i think it was between the potato, French fries or rice. I love the simple decor, and homey feel. I wish I could give them more stars, as it was a staple for so many years- generations- for my family. The inconspicuous exterior used to house such a small culinary gem. With the ambiance of the 70s in the Sabrina room, to the light fixtures over the booths- this place has held a special place in my heart. Last week during early service hours, I ordered a take-out order for (4) people. 2 orders of fried shrimp with fries, 1 large order of fried shrimp with a loaded baked potato. Specified to please add cheese and bacon, chives if they had it. The other order was for a steak- they were out. The second selection- snapper- was also not available. My son settled for an order of spaghetti. The order was taken efficiently and with politeness by Monie. Upon arrival, and realizing they still do not accept any cards- cash/check only. I ran across to the convenience store to get a bit more cash from the ATM. I knew this beforehand- it just slipped my mind. Visitors should be aware! Arriving back, I was greeted by Ms Monie who was busy taking orders and checking one patron out. While waiting, I was asked numerous offensive questions by the owner. Even when trying to answer in a polite way, I was asked subsequently more rude questions; as well as being interrupted when answering said questions. The order, which I should have checked- was incorrect. The baked potato was plain with no butter or even sour cream- certainly not loaded. One salad had incorrect dressing- ranch instead of bleu cheese. The shrimp on all 3 orders were severely overcooked and tough; many not eaten due to poor quality. Calling to correct it became a bit irritating as the phone was busy when trying to call to reconcile the issues. I tried calling more than a handful of times- which was busy each time. Sometimes they take the phone off the hook when they get a bit in the weeds. Hoping that was the case. I considered not adding a Yelp review; but felt it was worth it to encourage management- if they read these to try to revive the old Ramon's charm and standards. It was quite the disappointment this visit, perhaps as well as my last. Hoping to see this local staple improve. Though, I'm certain I will not be a patron again after the last insulting experience. read more

Been going to this place when in town visiting my whole life. It is perfection. "You want the fried shrimp or the spaghetti" is what my grandmother asked me every time we would go. As an adult I now cannot go without getting both. I highly recommend doing that. read more

Crazy as it sounds for folks looking for a traditional southern fix, the pasta here is excellent and worth it. Great little place where locals gather. Nice catfish, friend shrimp. Waterlogged noodles is really all you need to know. Bland sauce. Slow service. Limited selection of alcohol. Sticky interior. The most enjoyable part of the visit was seeing a racoon on top of building eyeing the dumpster (which isn't that fair as this is Mississippi, of which I am a native). This is the worst positive consensus rating I've ever seen on yelp. I understand locals love their old standbys but pls, travelers, don't visit this establishment, unless you live for onion rings. We set out to road trip about 90 minutes down into the Delta to try an old established restaurant but a new place to us. Driving up we were a little intrigued as it is an older building located in a residential neighborhood and looks quite out of place. Going through the front door you immediately realize it has the potential to be a very interesting dining experience. There is a short bar right in front with stools and tables and booths to your right. The floor looks like the original green and white tile, bluish walls, ceiling tiles with lots of water stains from a leaking roof, seating booths along the wall with a slight slope to them due to the floor sagging, and a few tables with chairs. We were seated in one of the booths that sloped towards the outside wall. Our server was right there to take our drink orders, returned timely with them and took our appetizer orders. We got the onion rings as our server highly recommended them. I think onion rings are a pretty good way to gauge most restaurants and either raise or lower my expectations for the rest of the meal. Ramon's onion rings were very good. Held the batter well and were cooked perfectly. Next we all had the fried shrimp as that is what had been raves about from several folks we know. Absolutely some of the best fried shrimp in north Mississippi or for that fact maybe the whole state. Loved the ambiance, the service, and the food. Can hardly wait for our next Delta road trip to Ramon's. read more

I went because of the great reviews and had one of the worst meals in a long time,. Onion rings were terrible and hard to eat (batter crumbled). A catfish Rich Boy sandwich had pieces of catfish, much too large, plunked down on a very ordinary bun with tomato and lettuce. Hard to pick up without pieces falling out. My wife enjoyed her spaghetti and meatballs. They do not accept any credit cards. read more

Don't let the picture fool you. The atmosphere is nonexistent, the service is slow to say the least, and the building looks like it ought to be condemned, but the food is some of the best on earth. One of the locals' best kept secrets, this nondescript building sits off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood a short drive from the Blues hotspots downtown. You know you're in the right place when the cloud of heavenly grease smell hits you on the way in. Beer? on the menu - light only. If you're a beer snob, they let you bring your own. Also, bring your own wine and liquor - no corkage fees! If you're looking for healthy fair, don't bother. This is the real deal, artery clogging food that made the '70s so enjoyable. Fine fried seafood: huge, plump oysters, enormous butterfly shrimp, catfish, and scallops. If you can handle the cholesterol spike, order the fried chicken livers, served with a side of spaghetti. The house salad is a potent mix of iceberg, tomatoes, and one black olive dressed with a garlic vinaigrette, garnished with a whole pepperoncini. The food is consistently HOT when served, fresh, and delicious. Portions are generous; go hungry. Weekend nights can be busy (read: slow service) but well worth the wait. Was dissapointed, I had read the reviews so decided to go here for seafood & Italian. Ordered the shrimp scampi. I usually like any pasta, but this was not scampi at all; the shrimp were good but the pasta was bland and watery. No garlic or seasoning, and it appeared to have been cooked in margarine as it was so watery. My husband ordered catfish, it was good to me but he thought it was bland, hush puppies were good. Also the place needs a good remodel, I don't mind hole in the wall places but when you have stained ceiling tiles all over its time to update! Also, no wine available, they serve beer but not wine. Italian food and wine go hand in hand, just saying. You can bring you own wine though. read more

People outside the Delta have no idea what they are missing, and Ramon's is a favorite. You will probably read on other reviews about the fried shrimp. But the other entrees are just as savory as the shrimp. Spaghetti is my favorite and you don't bust your wallet getting a great meal. read more

Delicious neighborhood spot serving Italian and seafood. We came here on a recommendation from the Cat Head, and it did not disappoint. The onion rings were incredible and as other reviewers noted, crispy and perfectly fried but somehow not greasy. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken livers, but the veal spaghetti was a yummy alternative. Fantastic red sauce on the spaghetti -- meaty but not too chunky. The spaghetti itself was fine but I prefer my noodles al dente so it wasn't my favorite. The service was fantastic and friendly. Wonderful spot to kick off an evening of blues! Don't let the aged building fool you. When you walk in, though, be prepared to be transported back in time. Green tile floors and blues walls and the phone constantly ringing with orders. But it's the food that really took us back to the good ole pre-diet days. I ordered the fried shrimp with red pasta and a salad. I recommend the house dressing. My dinner partner ordered the chicken livers, which was, I must admit, our reason for visiting Ramon's. We heard they were the best, and good liver can be hard to come by. He says, "They were cooked just right, buttery, crispy, light and the small portion was just enough to fully satisfy." My fried shrimp lived up to Ramon's fried-food hype. I recommend asking for both cocktail sauce AND the house-made tartar. My lovely waitress recommended the combo.
