We were in clarksdale for one night as we were driving through. Unfortunately we arrived on Tuesday and pretty much everything in town was closed down in this mostly ghost town. After much looking online for something we found this place. I am gluten intolerant and really should not eat anything wheat, but we had no other choice. So I took a bunch of gluten pills and took a chance. We had a pizza with olives, onions and peppers. It was good and fit the need to get us fed after a day of driving. I was still hurting a bit the next day, but survived to write this review. The pizza was fine and if you are in town this would be an okay place to go. It's unfortunate to have to leave this review but we left the place very disappointed so I have to write. The service was decent at first but became very slow as we ordered. For some reason even after waiting a while, my son and I got luke warm meals, and mine was fettuccine Alfredo- NOT a good dish to serve not as hot as it should be. So, my husband had to wait even longer, but his food arrived much hotter. No check until after our server cleaned a table after we were done eating and we had to get a different server to ask for ours to deliver our check please. Then she said "I was just about to check on you." But she hadn't. So I told her that I wished she had checked on us as the food my son and I had was actually luke and not hot. She barely apologized, and waited as my husband got cash for the check. Instead of bringing back change, she stayed at the back of the restaurant talking to another waitress for so long we decided she had kept our money as her tip. This was my second time trying Stone pony pizza. The first time was about six months ago when I was visiting Clarksdale. Both times the food was good and the service was as well. The breading on the pizza is very good. Very soft inside and extremely tasteful. The Stone pony vinaigrette for the salad was good... Needed something... Maybe some salt or a little more vinegar but was still very tasty. The Stone pony fries were excellent! The flavor was amazing! Located down town Clarksdale is Stone Pony Pizza. Although, I did not get pizza. I got their so called "plate lunch". It's not on their menu. It's on a small sheet of paper. It changes daily. Anyway, I got their hamburger steak with gravy, potatoes and gravy, butter beans along with a corn bread and sweet tea. I have to say I enjoyed my lunch today. See photos I took. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted and asked if I wanted to sit at bar or a booth. I chose the bar since I was by myself. So, the bartender was my waitress. She took care of me and took my order. They were fast in bringing my lunch as it came to me within a few minutes. The bar is really nice. It's big and has plenty of room. The bar can easily sit 20 or more people. They also have a nice selection of beers to choose from. You can ask for their beer menu or you can easily look at it via photo I took of it while I was here. Just zoom in and you can see what is served and their prices. Yes, I will definitely be back after I get off work another day. This might be the "hot place" to go to on Fridays or Saturdays. read more

Tried this place on a whim and we were very disappointed. Wife ordered catfish, two small fillets small portion of fries and two hush puppies with a side of slaw. Fires were cold and soggy, fish was undercooked. I ordered their stone pony burger and boy what a let down. Unseasoned frozen flat patty of beef, appears to be from a bulk bag at Sam's Club. Minuscule amount of cold soggy fries also. Not what you expect for $16 when reading the menu description. We did share an order of cheese curds for an appetizer that were surprisingly good. The styrofoam cups with their logo were messy, the ink would rub off and get on your hands and clothes. Service was slow, waiter explained they were short handed and had an usually larger than normal crowd. He was pleasant but clearly overwhelmed. Your typical pub, with various pizzas being the specialty of the house. My wife had a chicken salad, and I had the pesto penne with chicken. The food was fine...nothing to get excited about. Service was rushed, and wait time for food was excessive. Prices were fair. One of the only restaurants open on a Sunday makes this a choice spot. read more

A great local restaurant until recently. In this case "under new management" is very bad news. The lady they have managing now is in over her head. I popped in today to get a quick to go order the manager took my order greeted me in a very rude manner ordered me to go to the other side of the bar then ignored me by skipping over me and taking the order of the person who came in after me. I tried to give my order not raising my voice or using any bad language and she picked an argument with me and had a complete meltdown because she didn't like the way I talked and moved my head. She started verbally attacking me in front of a restaurant full of customers and staff. Then had security escort me to the front of the restaurant. I asked for the owner and he came out and apologized. God bless the owner he told me he couldn't do anything about it because they're short staffed like every other restaurant in the country and if he tried to intervene in how she treats customers she would walk out on him and he couldn't cope. Sad sad sad The owner gave the explanation that she had been working triple shifts because it's a big festival weekend If this had been the only time she had been rude and unprofessional to me I would've let it pass but she's like that all the time. She sets the tone for her staff too. Since she took over the staff ignore customers When myself or one of my colleagues buys a big lunch to go order for the office you have to walk all the way to the back to get it and pay for it and when you're walking out carrying these huge bags the staff never get up off their butts and offer to hold the door for us this has happened to me and my coworkers many times. read more

Nice little restaurant - reasonably priced menu, decent amount of selection. Clean, nicely decorated, friendly service. I had a blackened catfish poboy with fries and onion rings. The fish was a quality filet that was thick and juicy, but not overcooked. Veggies on the sandwich were fresh. The roll was made in-house and it was fantastic - great flavor, tough enough to hold the sandwich together, but not something you had to fight to consume. My main issue was just that there wasn't a lot of flavor to either the filet or the sauce. It was just very bland. The fries has kind of a funky taste - like they had been fried with fishy oil or something. Onion rings were fantastic. My service was pretty slow, but that was likely the result of the time I was in there and not necessarily reflective of the normal experience. It was a nice place and I'd probably give it another chance, but the less than stellar taste keeps me from giving it a higher rating. read more

Don't order dessert. I've been there three times, and the past two times I did not post a review because they didn't make an impression. Today, however, they did. We started off pretty rocky. The lunch menu printed on the board outside their door was incorrect, and when we did order off the "correct" paper, we were told one of the sides wasn't available after our waitress went to put the order in. As a side note, she did a great job with all of this. We ended up waiting for our drinks until after our food got to the table, and we were halfway done. Sweet tea - apparently the kitchen needed to make more. The food was not great. I got the chicken, which was more like breading with some chicken in it (4 tiny pieces of chicken with extremely thick coating) that had the texture of frozen chicken and felt like it had been under a heat lamp far too long. My friend got the catfish, which was almost inedible. The sides were also not anything exciting. Heads up, there is bacon in the (canned) green beans - not good for those of us who don't eat pork. The fried okra was almost a highlight, despite the fact that it seemed reheated. I'm fairly certain the fries were the frozen ones you buy at Walmart. Now, dessert was where our big issue happened. Listed on the lunch special was banana pudding, but "tiramisu" was brought out. It did not look like tiramisu at all, and the waitress thought there was ice cream in it. We asked for the banana pudding instead, and our waitress happily grabbed it for us. What came to the table was not banana pudding. It was a disgusting orange color, and looked like a sugar scrub. It was thick (formed stiff peaks/clumps), grainy, and altogether inedible. Neither of us took more than one bite. Now, I won't go back because of the managers reaction. We told our waitress about the pudding issues, and she told her manager. Apparently, the manager decided telling the waitress that "other people like it" was a good enough response. That was completely unacceptable from a management level employee, and I will not be returning because of how badly the manager handled it. We ended up paying and going to get lunch again elsewhere. Previously, I had baked chicken with a cucumber salad, corn nuggets, and squash, which was decent. Also the lunch special, but they didn't even offer the dessert when they brought the check. I've also had the pizza, which was decent, but the crust was definitely soggy in the center (small pizza with one topping). My friend had the lunch there another day and said the food was pretty good, but the dessert (chocolate explosion) was disgusting. read more

Writing this during my second visit in a week. The food is excellent. First visit I had a small pizza that was full of flavor. This visit I'm having the chicken wrap and looking forward to it. Both times my server was Ariel and she was friendly, attentive, and a great example of Southern hospitality. Next time I'm in Clarksdale I'll definitely be coming back. Fast forward 20 minutes...the wrap was pretty good. I also had the homemade potato chips with BBQ seasoning and highly recommend them. My group of friends and I arrived in Clarksdale late Sunday night, and we were pleased to find the Stone Pony was open for business. In a small town like Clarksdale, many businesses close on Sunday, but not Stone Pony. The Stone Pony has a very good neighborhood feel, and this is another local watering hole that attracts both friends and family. There is a bar in the back, but most of the patrons had small children with them. Its the local pizza place, after all! Our waitress was very attentive, and she handled our group of 10 very well. Our water, sweet tea, and beer glasses were filled at all times. Our waitress also had a good working knowledge of the beer selection, and she recommended local beers on tap for our crew. I went against the grain and ordered the fettucine alfredo pasta bowl with chicken. It was reasonably priced at just under ten dollars, and there was more food than I could finish. The dish itself reminded me of Olive Garden fare. I felt the pasta noodles were not made in-house, so don't expect fine Italian here. My friends ordered various pizzas off the menu, and the staff were very accommodating of my friends' vegan and vegetarian diets. They swapped ingredients in and out to meet their dietary needs. The pizzas have a thick crust, which many of my friends broke off and did not eat, so if you're a crust-lover, then you'll love the big crusts here, but if you're not, then let your server know: The pizza crusts have a just-baked taste, so I'm sure they will make it thinner upon request. The beer selection and the sweet tea make this place a great place to meet for a drink or a slice of pizza. read more

Looking for a break from BBQ, I heard I should come here and try the Jo-Jo, which is an all meat pizza. The staff was polite and friendly and the decor is nicer than what you would expect from a small town Southern sports bar--a classic, wood grain floor and old brick walls with sports collectables and the like. The pizza was good, but the crust left a little to be desired. It was a hand tossed crust but extremely thin and it didn't hold up to the weight of the toppings. We paid steakhouse prices for food that took 37 minutes to come out...at lunchtime hours. There are two other groups of two in this restaurant and our food took 37 minutes. I kept telling myself it would good and filing though. This is going to sound like exaggeration, but they brought out a 1" saucer dish smaller than my hand. I finished my $10 entree in exactly 6 bites. Oh, I almost forgot the salad, maybe because it barely existed. They put lettuce on a piece of wax paper and dashed it with mozzarella cheese. Not a bowl of lettuce. Literally a spoonful of lettuce and called it a salad. The sweet tea at this place gets 5 stars. Everything else sucked. Won't be coming back. read more

This place is a positive sign of the changes going on in Clarksdale's downtown. Over the last few years traveling through Clarksdale it a pleasure to see several new business and restaurants opening in the once almost forgotten downtown. We stopped in during Juke Joint Festival in April, though the place was jammed we were seated quickly. The menu reads like most pizza places,salads,wing pizza sandwiches. The difference is the fresh baked pita bread and warm sliced roast beef, creative pizzas, and BBQ ribs. Everything is done well, and this during an unusually busy time.
