I was excited about the idea of ramen here in suburbs and came here as soon as I could after hearing about this place. The large sign on the restaurant still says Jimmy Thai. Upon closer inspection I saw the Ramen Time sign in the window. I came early, around 5:15 pm on on Friday, so the place was mostly empty. The service was very quick and attentive. A gentleman who I presume was the owner stopped by to say hello and wished us a nice meal. At the end he thanked us for coming. Now, the ramen. The menu keeps it simple which I appreciate. Several choices of broth and very good selection of add-ons. The size was generous. The flavor was ok but it is not the best ramen we have had in the Chicagoland. The noodles had good texture. All in all, I found the location very undesirable, almost desolate. The inside is not very cozy either. Had more of a cafeteria than a restaurant vibe. The soup is good but not great. If it's on my way and I'm craving ramen, I may do a takeout, however, I will not make a special trip just to come here. This place is located in Jimmy Thai. This location serves both thai food and ramen. Overall the ramen was good. Ordered the tonkatsu broth with pork. The pork at this place is more lean but overall the texture was very tender. Noodles were cooked to the right temperature. Good mix of veggies too. Definitely a hidden gem in the suburbs. I'm taking a star off because service was slow. Friendly, but slow. The food is VERY GOOD here. We were excited that a new Ramen restaurant opened in the North Shore. Ramen Time is "partnered" with Jimmy Thai. I can understand wanting to market the Ramen separately from the Thai. Anyway, we were seated promptly and studied both the Thai and Ramen menus, though we already knew we wanted the Ramen. It took awhile before a member of the wait staff stopped by to take our order. We actually had three servers this evening. One took our order, one delivered our edamame (free, btw which was nice), and another delivered our apps and soups and the check. We ordered the pot stickers and chicken kara-age as apps. I liked both. My dining companion was disappointed with the potstickers, but enjoyed the chicken kara-age. She's picky. My dining companion ordered the mild Tonkotsu style Ramen with Char Siu pork. I ordered the spicy Tonkotsu with the Char Siu pork. I was very happy with mine, but Ms. Mild Tonkotsu broth thought hers was "too salty". My spicy broth came with additional hot chili paste, so I kicked up the spice level even more and was glad I did. The texture of the noodles was great, and there was plenty of pork and bok choy. The iced Thai coffee was the right beverage to take the spicy edge off the Ramen. The owner was quite affable and came to our table to ask how we enjoyed our meals. That was nice. We waited awhile for the check to be delivered to the table. The decor is understated but pleasant. As other reviewers have noted, a table next to the window might leave you feeling a bit chilly on a cold night. Dress accordingly, or ask to be moved away from the window. I'll be back. I'll try the Ramen again, but may order something off the Thai menu to take home for later. read more

Just dined here today and I'm glad I did. This hands down is my favorite ramen spot. You get to customize your ramen by broth, choice of protein, and additional toppings. Ask for the habanero paste! It brings just enough kick and great flavor to any of the ramen if you enjoy it on the spicy side. Service was stellar. I really appreciated that they explained the flavor profiles of each of there broths. They were attentive and friendly. The potstickers were made perfectly. What a pleasant surprise! A colleague and decided to grab a bite after work and saw this restaurant on Yelp. After a 20 minute drive to a run down shopping mall, we questioning our decision. But regardless, we decided to walk in and give it a chance. We were not disappointed!!! The staff and owner were just fantastic. Quite friendly and attentive. The restaurant provides 2 different dining options: thai or ramen. We opted for the ramen as it was quite chilly out. Ordering ramen occurs in 3 simple steps and customizable to your preference. The portions may look average but it is quite filling and taste was outstanding! My colleague still had some broth leftover but was able to order a noodle refill which most restaurants do not offer. What a wonderful neighborhood gem! Great Thai food and friendly staff! Owner is usually there and treats all his customers like family.

We've been regulars at Jimmy Thai (which is attached) for years so we were happy when Ramen Time was added at the location a couple of years back. Ramen is solid enough. Not the fanciest bowl in the Chicagoland area and doesn't slam you in the face with flavor compared to some, but all of the elements are there and it hits the spot. I also don't have to drive 30-60 minutes for it. Not to mention, you can get fantastic Thai food at the same time. That said, the service is what makes it an easy 5-star. Jimmy himself is often the one greeting, taking orders, and bringing the food. It's always been obvious he cares about his restaurant, the customers, and the food he's serving. That hasn't changed even when they moved to a larger space. Worth mentioning that pick-up was and remains easy with Covid. read more

This might be my new Ramen spot! There's another place closer that sells really good ramen, but Ramen Time offers A LOT of options to creating your own ramen experience! I came here for lunch today, and was welcomed right away. Yes, this place is also a Thai place, but they now have a ramen side to it. If you're getting ramen, you pick your broth, protein, and any additional veggies you want. You do have to pay extra for the additional veggies, but it's totally worth it! I picked the pork broth with beef, and then I added mushrooms and nori to my ramen. I also ordered an appetizer of edamame. The edamame was steamed and salted. It did have a bit of too much salt for me, but still very good. The ramen was a large portion, but not too much. The noodles were cooked perfectly, along with the beef. The broth, though, was simply amazing! Full of flavor! The veggies were also a nice touch, and who doesn't love a hard boiled egg? Also, if you want spice to your ramen, the waitress gives you a small cup of their habanero paste. Before you panic, I will say that I like spicy food, but not habanero spicy. HOWEVER, I did try the paste, and it was quite delicious! It's not just spicy, but also seasoned! You can also have soy sauce and regular chili paste if your still timid about the habanero. Second time eating Ramen Time. First time was carry out, they told us about it over the phone about the new Ramen time. Only reason for 4 stars is I feel the portion is slightly smaller then other places. Quality of the food and service is 5/5 stars. Fresh and well presented. Veggies look very fresh and well cooked. Broth tastes very clean and not oily or overly salty. The house-made hot sauce specifically made for the Ramen was great. It didn't alter the flavor but added just the right amount of heat. This is probably the best ramen place I ever tried in Chicago. My husband is Japanese and also agrees with me. The Ramen menu is very user friendly, Everything is very fresh, and cooked in a very natural, and home made kind of way. The serving portions are very generous. We also ordered Gyoza and fish, and it was absolutely incredible!! We really enjoy going as a family, my kids love it! Came here for lunch with a friend. We didn't realize at first that they were located in the same space as Jimmy Thai, which has much more visible signage. We both ordered the Tonkatsu but ordered mine spicy. We both agreed that the spicy was better than her regular. Her's was a bit on the sweet side and mine wasn't too spicy. So don't be afraid to go with spicy. We both had it with the pork slices. They were very good but maybe a little on the fatty side. At lunchtime you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Our order was taken by the owner who is really lovely. We ate on the late side so we weren't rushed and he was happy to talk to us. He explained the menu and a bit about how he decided to noodle around with ramen. I wasn't blown away by the ramen like many other reviewers here were, but the food was definitely hearty and flavorful, and the restaurant service was fantastic. The menu is really great -- you get to build your own bowl and pick your add-ons. Every bowl already comes with some bokchoy, scallions, and a molten egg. We had a tonkotsu/chasu ramen, spicy tonkotsu/chasu ramen, and tonkotsu/shrimp tempura/fish cakes ramen. The noodles are a pleasantly chewy texture, the meat is tender, and the shrimp tempura is served separately and thus remains crispy on the outside. The soup is salty but not overly so, and the vegetables soak up the flavor nicely. I also noticed a subtle fruity note/aftertaste to all three soups, however, which was unique but not for me. A ramen place in the outskirts of Chicago. Thats exactly what it is. Nothing exceptional about it. The food is definitely not bad and neither does it taste weird. But then there is nothing exceptional about it either. I got the gyoza, which seemed to be in frozen state before dumped in the fryer. No problem with that but it could have been cooked through atleast. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen which was ok too. Ramen Time is located within Jimmy Thai near the DMV in Deerfield. How lucky we are to have such tasty ramen in our little suburb! The ramen itself is delicious - I had the spicy tonkatsu broth (whoa - they weren't kidding on the spicy - I'll still to regular next time) with pork. I loved that there was half of an egg included. Next time I'll probably get it "low carb" which would mean more cabbage and fewer noodles. My kind of soup. We had the chicken karaage to start. I really don't expect a great Ramen place in Deerfield, but it was nice that the Thai restaurant in the mall opened up this ramen place. They give you both the Thai menu and the Ramen menu and you get to choose. For $10.95 I ordered the traditional Tonkatsu broth with Chicken Kasaaga and I liked how they served the chicken separately so that the chicken remained crunchy. The bowl was adequate, but I felt they were missing on the vegetables and could have added just a little bit more. I am more used to the separate vegetables displayed in a certain fashion at most ramen places, but here everything was already missed in. The broth was very rich and tasty so I'll likely be back for more. The half-boiled egg was just a little overcooked but that wasn't so bad. read more

I had high expectations coming here with all the high reviews so I'm sorry to disappoint everyone. I love ramen and it's definitely my comfort food. I had the best ramen in California and New York so coming to Illinois looking for good ramen was my mission. I've been to Torino Ramen in Wilmette and that's pretty authentic ramen. I really wanted to love it as the employees were really nice. I have also been to Jimmy's for Thai food before and remembered it being really good. For the ramen, I felt like all the food was just thrown into the bowl - no presentation. That's fine if the food can stand on its own but it really didn't. The fried tofu was really fried and cutting it open showed you how much tofu was in there - not much. I did like that they separated the tofu from the ramen. I did like that you can add veggies and etc to your ramen but overall, concept was great but the food didn't taste like authentic Japanese ramen. I'd recommend their Thai Food if you come here. Let me first say that my son and I are "Ramen Hunters"... that is, we spend our free time seeking out the best Ramen in Chicago (and beyond). Sadly, we've been struggling with the fact that there have been no quality Ramen spots anywhere near Highland Park or Deerfield. (cue the tears...) Until today. Along with some blissfully warm weather, we today were fortunate enough to discover the hidden gem known as "Ramen Time" and it's owner, Jim Seriruk. Our Tonkotsu bowls with Chashu were delivered steaming hot, and filled with love. The noodle portion was generous, the broth was buttery and rich. The pork...literally melted in our mouths. For about ten bucks a piece, my son and I walked away with full bellies and HUGE smiles on our faces. No longer will we need to schlepp to the City to get our "fix" or even some of the more distant suburbs. Now, whenever we want... it's "Ramen Time". FYI - Jim was incredibly friendly and interested in sharing that the location will be moving north across Lake Cook soon, and in the meantime, look for the sign (orange and green) that says "Jimmy Thai" for now... as the City of Deerfield wouldn't allow him to put up anything more obvious on the outside showing "Ramen Time". This is the WORST ramen I have ever had. It is definitely NOT AUTHENTIC RAMEN. I had a few bites when I realized that they make their broth creamy by adding BUTTER. When I asked my husband and son if theirs tasted like butter too, they both exclaimed "That's what that flavor is!!!" Ramen broth should NOT be butter flavored. Do yourself a favor and go to the other ramen place In Northbrook (Ronin's spoon) if you're craving a bowl. It's much better there. read more

Came here again because it's cold out and a nice hot bowl of ramen definitely hits the spot on a day like this. I love the lunch time special with free edamame and fountain drink. Coming from Las Vegas this is by far the best. This place is awesome. It's busy but they serve fast. Their lunch specials are worth it. I ordered a lot and the costs are reasonable. Ramen pad Thai was excellent etc. the owners goes around making sure our needs are met even though it's busy. (I should have gotten names but forgot).
