Fantastic and one of the most unique smoky tonkotsu ramen I've had in Houston. Service has been pretty quick when we come and kind. Vibe here feels like a hole in the wall and lots of wooden accents give it a kind of izakaya feel. Excellent value too considering how expensive ramen has gotten these days. I've been to plenty of ramen restaurants over the years and my personal experiences have been good and bad. I'm looking for crave ability, umami, flavors, and value/price. I would say Ramen Jin is in the middle of the road, the ramen is good but it's not teleporting me to Japan. What I love is the overall value, for $14, it's a good price, it's a small dish so I'm still hungry. The noodles are good but they don't taste homemade. It has a chewiness with a nice firmness. The toppings are good and the chashu has plenty of pork flavor. Nice fat on the chashu but it's too paper thin. I wish I can find a ramen restaurant that isn't afraid to cut a thicker piece of meat. I find myself eating the dish and trying to pick n choose when I want all noodles or noodles and pork because it just doesn't have enough meat. I definitely found myself eating more noodles and only noodles with less meat and when I did have the meat and noodles, it was amazing. The ramen broth is good but I've had better, it has a mild mid level of flavor. It's not bland but it's not over the top, just right in the borderline taste of instant noodles from Sam's Club and actual home made broth. It's needs more funk more pork flavor. read more

Ramen Jin is tucked inside a little shopping center with plenty of parking. The Houston weather turned drizzly, so I got a ramen craving and popped in on a whim. There seem to have been a good amount of diners judging by the number of uncleared bowls on the tables. This is an order-at-the-counter restaurant, so I'm, not sure how they didn't have the staff to clear away the dirty dishes. Especially since it really limited our seating options. Ordering at the counter was quick and easy. The cashier was able to tell me the toppings that come with the tonkotsu ramen (chasu, wood ear mushrooms, scallions, and a ramen egg). I would have loved more included toppings or at least listed prices on the additional topping options rather than "prices vary". I felt very full after finishing almost my entire bowl, so I definitely didn't *need* the extra toppings. I think my jaw dropped after my first sip of the tonkotsu broth - I'm amazed at how rich and flavorful it was. So I go to his place for my seventh time, and I asked for some hot sauce, and the guy I've never dealt with or brings out chili powder. So I said can I have some hot sauce instead of chili gets mad and says it's gonna be a dollar which I say I've never been charged a dollar for hot sauce here that seems ridiculous, so I end up telling him I'd like to get my money back, and then I'll go somewhere else. Yes, this idiot proceeds to call the police on me, because I wanted my money back, because the guy was being a dickhead . This little kid is was literally screaming at me, and tried to prevent me from leaving the store, because he was calling the police because I was asking for my money back. Obviously, I can't let that ride, and the guy that I deal with normally, who's nice, was begging me not to leave this review,......but you can't scream at your customers. You can't try and prevent your customer from leaving your building, because you're calling the police (literally because a customer is unhappy with your shitty service). Wowow I normally don't take to be screamed at, but all things considered with it being on video, I decided to play it cool. Maybe pass it along that the next guy that you scream at .........might just not be cool about it. So anyways, I thought that they did have the best Ramen in town, but apparently they have the absolute worst service in town, so I do not recommend going to this establishment whatsoever. I'm more or a Vietnam Noddle type of guy, so coming in here was a change. The place is small and maybe sits 30 on a busy day. So to stroll in on a weekday maybe the better option. The day I walked in, there were a few tables that had dishes still on tables. Only one other person was in here, so maybe the staff was out to lunch. The trap Asian music was actually fire playing at a mid-low volume. It took me 10 minutes for somebody to help me with ordering(only one staff member was here doing double duty) I ordered the spicy miso with veggie spring rolls. The broth was a nice texture. Not too thick and not an overpowering of the spice. The noodles had snap to them! I loved that! The ground pork and corn made a nice touch to the dish. The veggie rolls were ok. Sweet and Sour sauce makes everything better. Overall, good experience and I will go back again. Although somebody did cleaned up the tables after a while(another employee walked in and made that happen) I feel that the four stars is warranted. I can't say enough good things about this place. My daughter decided she wanted ramen for her birthday and had just come her with my husband a couple of weeks prior, so we reached out to the manager about reserving a table for 10 for her special day. John was so accommodating - he made our reservation, told us we could bring in our homemade dessert and wine if we wanted (so we did.) He was very patient and showed us photos of all the menu items as some people in our party hadn't eaten ramen before. Our order was large and complicated, but he made sure we got everything we wanted and was so kind the entire time. The food was incredible. (Be sure to order the fried chicken, the tonkaksu and the gyoza!) He brought out plates and forks for us to use for the cake and even gave us a big kitchen knife from the back so we could cut the cake. We stayed late - past closing - but he never rushed us. He even took photos for us and talked at about his family and kids (since we were there with several kids too). We will absolutely be back. This place, and the manager, is a total gem! read more
