Order at the counter then take a seat. Everything is vegan here and made to appeal to the eye as well as the taste buds in true Japanese style. It was a hot day so Igor cold noodles. It was good but I would not order it again...my fault as I did not read carefully. It was mayo based. The device is fast and effecisnt.

My husband & I got the spicy Katsu vegan ramen & it was delicious! I've never had a vegan ramen that tasted this good. Service was prompt although seating is limited during weekends (as expected). They also do not allow you to sit at their bar if you order even one item that is not on their menu. Overall; loved the food & experience. Glad I found my regular vegan ramen spot in LA!

I was craving for ramen and this place is closest to me. Okay I had to admit I did not know it's a vegan restaurant. Hahaa! It's my first time trying vegan food. Anyways, the price was decent-ish. But the broth was so salty to me, first couple sips tasted decent but it kept having the beans after taste which makes it tasted very heavy and did not want to eat the whole thing. The spam and mushroom tasted pretty good.but other than that I just think it's okay.

This is an entirely vegan restaurant I ordered the Tuna Crisps and a Spicy Ramen The crisps were good, it has an interesting texture to it, kinda like a purée. Overall it wasn't too bad but I'd probably try something else next time. The Spicy ramen was pretty good, the broth had good flavor, the noodles seemed a little too mushy for me but weren't bad either. The Mushrooms were a good size and went well with the broth. Overall, if you're vegan it's definitely a solid option, but I'd pass on this if you are able to eat Normal ramen The ambiance is really casual, there's plenty of searing for this restaurant which is a big plus, and staff are helpful with the menu.

Spicy "Pork" Katsu Garlic Ramen

Opens at 11AM on Sunday. Luckily I decided to eat here a minute before it opened. This place is a long counter lined with metal stools. There are a couple menus posted near the counter. I ordered the Spicy "pork" Katsu garlic ramen. Did I mention, this is a 100% vegan restaurant? No meat. They sell bottled drinks. Service was efficient and friendly. He asked if I would be eating at the counter. I said yes, so after he put my ramen together, he delivered it to me straight to where I was seated. Chopsticks and napkins on the counter. Ramen tasted better than it looked. Don't make the mistake of dunking the "pork" into the broth as I did. It just makes it soggy. Whatever the two pieces of "pork" was made of, it was fried and tasted pretty good. The noodles were a nice consistency. Aside from the noodles, it included mushrooms, baby bok choy, seaweed, green onions, and the "pork." The broth was spicy the way I like it.

Can't believe this is Vegan! Love the noodles - I think they are Sun Noodles. I do prefer the complexity of flavors found in a pork-based broth though. Lively ambience in Grand Central Market. Fast service. No water offered; only bottled water for purchase available.

Garlic ramen. So flavorful and so good.

Here in LA for a work trip and came across this Ramen place and the Garlic ramen was so good. It has rich, creamy flavor.

Tasty! Very flavorful broth, and thick ramen noodles. Services was great. A nice spot for lunch while at the market. :)

Horrible experience, I hope this place is no more before my next visit to Grand Central Market.

Horrible experience. Told the guy taking my order this is my first time, guy recommended the Spicy Pork Katsu Garlic Ramen. I didn't read the menu and agreed to order the spicy pork katsu garlic ramen. The order came and I thought the pork looks dehydrated. When I put it in my mouth it was chew and not to my liking. I was unable to eat this bowel of ramen since it didn't taste like ramen, more like flavorless vegetable broth. When I asked for a refund on the full bowel; he refused stating I should learn to read and used his hands to indicate it's "PORK". When I asked why he didn't tell me it was vegan he said when guests find out it's vegan they don't order. Truth is I wouldn't have ordered if I knew. NO REFUND given on a full bowl I could not eat and did not eat. The mushroom I tried to chew was spit out. Horrible!!!

Ahi "Tuna" Crisps

Loooved the "tuna" crísps! They were filled with the beats as well and had good flavor, i also got a side of spicy mayo and that really turned it up a notch. This is my second time here and i do enjoy it, i try to try something new each time. They're service is quick and they're helpful! I love that they have bar seating as well. I do wish the tuna bites came with a bit more or were bigger in size

Hands down my favorite vegan ramen spot in LA and that is saying a lot. I've had my fair share of vegan ramen in the last few years and coming to Ramen Hood just brought a huge smile to my face. Located inside Grand Central Market, Ramen Hood offers a fully plant-based menu and utilizes predominantly a sunflower seed broth which is very unique. Each bowl was around $15 and you can either eat at the counter (recommended) or ask for takeout and they'll put everything into a nice little package to rebuild wherever you go. During my first visit, I tried their Spicy Garlic Katsu Ramen. The broth was extremely flavorful and packed with umami, and includes OmniPork katsu, bok choy, king oyster mushrooms, and chili threads. The noodles themselves were excellent quality and I gulped down my bowl in what felt like an instant. I loved them so much that I ended up coming back here a second time during my most recent trip in LA. Getting downtown can be a challenge, but it's well worth it for this bowl of ramen itself. Whether you're vegan or not, this bowl is not to be passed up. I've had mediocre non-vegan ramen in my life and this blows all of those bowls out of the park.

Checked out this pretty cool spot in Grand Central Market for noodles and Asian food. It happens to be an entirely plant based menu. Ramen Hood specializes in big bowls of noodles with lots of toppings. Good options if liking things that are hot. The prices really aren't that bad for the big portions. Best place in the market for Asian food. It's close to the main entrance on Broadway, located next to one of the seating areas for the market. This has a long counter if you want to sit there. A lot to choose from. Ramen is the main thing. It's about $15 for a bowl. There's several options if you want it spicy. For sure it can be hot. I got the Spicy Ramen. This is made with a spicy sunflower seed broth, with baby bok choy, bean sprouts, chili threads, mushrooms, nori, and scallions. A couple more bucks to get a vegan egg. They actually really make these. Good place to get noodles and Asian food. It's not that bad as far as prices in the market. The whole thing is great for vegans and vegetarians.

Cecilia Jane N.

Very good vegan ramen! If you served this to me without telling me it's vegan, I would have thought the broth was a pork bone broth. Broth was very flavorful and noodles were cooked to perfection. Service was fast considering how busy there were. There were only two workers working on a busy Tuesday afternoon, so they were moving around non stop. After ordering at the register, you can either sit at the counter or at a table. We sat at the counter, so we were able to see our bowls being prepared. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good bowl of ramen in downtown LA!

Anyone know if their broth is soy-free?

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / April 10, 2023

This place is located inside of central market. There is bar seating at the location but there's tons of seating area around the entire market, both indoors and outdoors. You can move tables around to accommodate a larger group. I don't recall…

I have an egg allergy, is the ramen egg free?

It's 100% vegan here so it's egg free! Enjoy!

Does your both contain nuts or peanuts in it for nut allergies thx?

they use Tahani which is seasame seeds for the spicy ramen broth. It's very good and worth trying. They do serve a garlic peanut appetizer but it's not cross contaminated. Go there, it's really worth it. There's 20 other places to eat at this…

Do you have seating available?

during pandemic, they closed off their booth seats. They have seating outside in the sidewalk. Everything take out

Does the food have MSG? I'm allergic to MSG.

no msg

Has anyone with celiacs eaten here, is it safe?

They have a gluten free noodle option

Are there non- vegan option?

Everything is vegan but it taste as delicious as authentic ramen and is so flavorful!!

Will you have the ahi tuna crisp like in NY soon? SOOO GOOD! Hope so ;)

Hi! I never been in one in NY but I can tell you that their ahi tuna crisps are AMAZING:)

We have a nut allergy. Any of the dishes contain nuts?

No nuts! I have a nut allergy as well:)

My sister has a gluten alergy...can she enjoy delicious Ramen Hood?

They have gluten free rice noodles although keep in mind there is gluten in soy sauce so you'd have to discuss some of the lesser used ingredients to see if there is trace gluten in case your sister is hyper sensitive.

Told her how can that be if I ordered for pick up for myself She said someone with that name came and got it for delivery and to take it up on Uber eats if I wanted a refund. I didn't see how it's my fault or duty to do all that if I clearly have it for pick up and I haven't swiped received yet. But other women worker said she can fix it just give her 20 minutes. That sounded reasonable it happens so I gave them 20 minutes came back asked for my order now I've been told five minutes. Five minutes goes by. I went to the front cashier asked if my order was ready yet to find out my order was not even placed in the kitchen yet. They now "have it" and will have it going 10 more minutes Came back to find out it wasn't even Placed once again. It took more than three times coming into the shop to get my ordered ready. I could understand one time, but the SECOND time I would've had made sure that order was right there next I would assume someone who had it scheduled since 5 o'clock kept coming back-and-forth hitting 6 o'clock and then hitting 7 o'clock almost hitting 7:20 would be a priority. Luckily I had a guy very tall guy help me with my order told me what did I get? Told what I got did it in a FLASH shout out to him for helping me who knows how long I was going to wait even more I get the kitchen was busy, but is it ever that busy you had someone who's had a SCHEDULED food order, SINCE 5 o clock who is literally right there in shop waiting now 7 o clock be the top priorities ? Disappointing the communication is lacking That should of been done a long time ago . Never felt so frustrated as I'm seeing other food get picked up and taken away. There was a order that also had my name on it, but it was not mine. (It was bigger) I could imagine if I took that how bad the kitchen will be backed up on, and I don't want no one feeling the exact same feeling I had and the wait time I had to get it done. Ridiculous. Only good thing was the male employee for being sweet and actually getting it done

Then came the next dilemma: keep it simple or load it up with tempura, vegetables, and an egg? Thankfully, the nabeyaki udon ($18.75) solved that problem by including a little bit of everything. One thing I immediately appreciated was that the hot pot presentation wasn't merely decorative. Seated with a view of the kitchen, I could see a chef placing the pot directly over a flame before adding the broth, noodles, and a freshly cracked egg. The dish was then finished with a meaty shiitake mushroom, bouncy fish cakes, plenty of green onions, and a single shrimp tempura. The only thing I would have changed was serving the shrimp tempura on the side. Sitting in the broth softened the coating quickly. Still, the broth itself was excellent... deeply flavourful without becoming overly salty. Better yet, the heated pot kept every spoonful piping hot from beginning to end. The udon was the star. Thick, springy, and wonderfully chewy, it had the satisfying texture that makes fresh udon so addictive. Not wanting an overly heavy lunch, I skipped adding extra noodles, a decision I regretted almost immediately. The egg was another welcome addition. As it slowly poached in the hot broth, I resisted the temptation to eat it all at once and instead broke the yolk apart, allowing it to enrich and slightly thicken the remaining soup.

That's the mood that pulled me into Maruya in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. I ordered the chashu tonkotsu, the classic go-to when you want to judge a ramen shop by its bones. And the verdict? It was... fine. Not bad, not memorable -- just okay. The kind of bowl that doesn't offend you but doesn't linger in your memory either. No standout richness in the broth, no chashu slice that made me pause mid-bite. Just noodles, doing their job. This is actually the second ramen spot I've tried in Little Tokyo, and I'll admit -- I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the neighborhood's ramen scene so far. For a pocket of the city with so much culinary history packed into a few blocks, I expected to be a bit more wowed by now. Two tries in, and I'm still searching for that bowl that stops me in my tracks. What did stand out, though, was the service. The staff at Maruya were genuinely warm and helpful -- attentive without hovering, quick to check in, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to root for the place even when the food doesn't quite deliver. It's the kind of detail that softens an otherwise middling meal. So, Little Tokyo ramen crawl: two down, verdict still out. The people have been great. The noodles? I'm still waiting to be impressed.
