Went in for an early evening ramen craving after my husband suggested Ramen 101. I wasn't too excited, but decided to give it a try. We ordered the chicken karaage, seafood ramen, and chow mein. The chicken karaage was the highlight--crispy, flavorful, and definitely the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, the ramen and chow mein were pretty underwhelming and didn't stand out in terms of flavor. The experience was also a bit lacking overall--the soda machine was out of ice and they didn't have Pepsi available. The place was just okay in terms of cleanliness. I had tried offering this as private feedback but never received an acknowledgement. I had arrived pretty excited due to an initial visit several months ago that went well. When I got in, it was rush hour and all tables except for one were full. The sign at the front asks customers to wait and order before being seated, so I waited at the ordering station. I was immediately preceded by a gentleman who decided to go straight from the door to the one open table, without checking in as the directions want customers to. He did this in full view of the staff who seemed to allow it. I waited for a few minutes for one staff member to come I was quickly turned away due to lack of tables. The optics of this experience were quite negative. I appreciate that this gentleman would've been seated before me if in theory he was placing an order before me, and that would've been fair. However, in this situation, staff allowed him to go straight to a table to claim it, without him actually ordering, and because I had stayed at the order kiosk as asked by the posted directions I was subsequently told to go elsewhere for a meal. Service was good. Food was good. Portions were good. Ambiance was so-so. It was neat and clean, but a little too casual for a first date for example. The reason why I rated four stars instead of five is because of bowl in which the unagi rice bowl was presented in. Although we were dining in the unagi rice bowl was brought to our table in a plastic bowl along with a plastic spoon and a plastic fork. In contrast the rest of my group had their meal (chicken katsu and teriyaki chicken combo) served beautifully on a "real" plate with metal utensils. Honestly, this place closes at a great time. They offer a small dining area but the Togo option is awesome. We ordered to go because we knew they were about to close in 30min. I ordered the black garlic ramen and hubby ordered miso. Both are so delicious. If you love garlic, the black garlic is full of flavor and their egg makes it delicious because it still has a yolk that is not over cooked. The appetizer options are great .. we also ordered deep fried oysters and we asked for a spicy mayo mix to go. The parking lot outside is big enough to be able to find a space. Other stores available within the plaza and perfect to walk around to target which is only across the next plaza. Service is on Point. I ordered the seafood ramen bowl, and it was absolutely delicious. The service was wonderful--the server was incredibly friendly. I had my 10-month-old grandbaby with me, and the server not only brought our food but also interacted with him and made him laugh. I really appreciated that extra kindness. If you need a ramen or Hawaiian bbq fix, this will do. However, the portions are smaller so you've been warned. When you walk in, it's kind of awkward the counter order then seat yourself. You almost feel rushed because you're not sure what to order and people are behind you. The entry flow doesn't work well. I ordered the chicken combo with BBQ chicken and katsu with 2 scoops of mac and one scoop of rice for $15 and a fountain drink for $2. First: the staff is super friendly, attentive and super nice. However the food was just okay. My combo chicken plate had two chicken thighs which is not anywhere near the value or expectation of a Hawaiian BBQ plate. The BBQ chicken had little to no flavor so I had to ask for soy sauce but they only had kimlan packets--- the kind from counter take out.....gah. I don't like that. Last, while I was eating, the gal was cleaning and spraying the tables around me. Friendly staff, simple food.,,, Every time is been here the Ramen is good but not great. Then again this is a chain restaurant. I'd say order on the lighter spicy side and ask for spicy oil on the side. My 1st two times I learned that as a rule. Their grilled squid is 5/5, tempura shrimp 3/5. The Ramen, I've tried a few different broths. My favorite is the Tonkotsu, Roasted Pork just tastes like boiled pork, the rest of the fixings from the soft boiled egg, bamboo, etc are spot on. Ramen 101 as its name is def an introduction ramen, but when you want the real deal go somewhere else. Service was amazing and the portions are perfect and large. Other than that all the food runs on the bland side. Presentation of the food looks great, and the pace of order to table was relatively short. Only gripe, as mentioned above, the food tends to run on the bland side, no umami or deep broth flavor. IMO, ramen is all about the deep bone broth flavor; rich and complex - which was missing. Unsure if it's a off day, but the broth was watered down and not very delicious. Will come back again to try their rice plates, but will not be ordering the ramen nor other dishes. This is based off the two times I've gone here in the last month. Our first experience would've given them 3 stars and here's why. We ordered to eat there at the restaurant, 3 different types of Ramen and an order of gyoza. The medium spice ramen didn't taste as spicy and the fish cake did not look fresh, or possibly they've had it sitting in the broth for a very long time. Anyways, let's get to the gyoza, after it was delivered to our table we waited a minute or two to cool off, the outside looks completely crispy, upon taking the first bite it is completely frozen! Yuck! We bring it to their attention so they make a new batch, again, same results. They served us frozen on the inside but burnt on the outside gyoza. All we got was a sorry after that. :/ Next visit was on 10/26 we got there 20 minutes before closing. As we enter the restaurant the young man tells us they are about to close and we can only order to-go. Fine, whatever. As we start ordering the plates we want, he stops us to say they are only serving Ramen. Ummm okay. So we start ordering the Ramens we want and what we would like in them. At that time, one of the kitchen crew interrupts and speaks to him, he then turns to us to say sorry the kitchen crew has cleaned up and is not cooking any of that either. So needless to say, we did not get ramen or a plate that night. They definitely are completely opposite of the Concord location. I do not recommend this location at all. Anywayz my wife and I went there last night, and the gentleman cashier charged us $4 additional for substituting garlic sauce for seafood sauce. They have finally opened! I have been waiting for this location to open. Today we ordered our usual orders at the other locations. Tonkatsu ramen, chicken ramen, karaage, geso, and bbq mix. The flavors are as consistently good as the other locations. Broth was flavorful, toppings was just right, and fried items were crispy. Only reason why it's not a 5 star rating is because of the geso. The other locations use larger pieces and bigger portions as to the one at this location. If your looking for a great tasting ramen that is reasonably priced, I would recommend giving this place a try! read more

Update: 9/2/2022 Island White Fish - 1.5/5 Today, I ordered the fried Island white fish lunch plate for lunch. The order was a total fail. As you can see from my previous reviews of this Ramen 101 in Antioch, my rating were very good. I look for consistency in quality and meal preparation. I have given Ramen 101 a good rating until today. I was saddened with the Island Fried White fish order today. The White fish did not come with the tartar sauce as described on the menu. A different red sauce was substituted for some odd reason. The sauce did not match the over fried dry Island white fish. You can see from my posted pics of the fried Island White fish was over fried and most likely left in the frier too long, OR it was a previous Island White fish order that was refried and sold, hence the over fried texture. The fish fillets were very thin and when biting into the breading, you could hardly taste any fish. You taste mostly the hard over fried breading (see pic 3). I could not finish this meal. I only ate at most 20% of this selection. I rarely give 1/5 reviews, but there is no excuse for the poor quality and preparation of the ISland White Fish meal. read more
