Rama Thai came highly recommended to me, so I looked forward to dining there. I'd noticed it before, with it's cute fountain display in the window, and hadn't given it a lot of thought, as restaurants in Stepeny Green aren't typically a worthwhile idea. Surrounded by Halal Fried Chicken shops and very questionable gangs of people, Rama Thai definitely stands out as different.
As can be determined by my rating, I wasn't massively impressed with my ultimate dining experience, to cut to the point, our starters were microwaved from frozen and were still frozen in the middle. They were happy to run back to the microwave and cook it a few more minutes.
The famous waitress, that supposedly has long talks and ensures you have the best experience wasn't in a very friendly mood during our visit. Granted it was a full restaurant and I understand that she may not have time to be chatty, but acknowledging us as customers, ensuring we actually get our food, isn't too much of a stretch?
After my starter was brought back after everyone else has finished eating, I asked the waitress to please bring the main course whenever it was ready and not to wait for me to finish, I'm not really sure she understood as my companions received their food a good 15 minutes before me. I even had to chase them for the rice side I had ordered. Although they did smash a plate after bringing my friends' meals, so there's a possibility they had dropped mine. I just hope they didn't scoop it back into a new plate for me.
The waitress kept mumbling instead of talking, and no one on my table could make out much of what she was saying. Even when the restaurant had become half empty, no one checked on us or offered more drinks. No one offered a complimentary drink or anything in apology for the mistakes they were making.
The restaurant itself is quaint, and I generally like the decor. Though it's definitely in need of a freshening up. Also don't sit anywhere near the door, as it doesn't close properly, and there's always a constant breeze coming through. Probably great in summer, but in winter the ladies sitting near the door were vocally frustrated with it.
Also don't sit too near the kitchen, as the fridges are very, very noisy and it's quite irritating trying to shout over an industrial fridge.
There's a few cobwebs and some paint chipping, but otherwise the style of the place is cute, and honestly wouldn't be completely against returning to the place, but you can believe I won't be ordering starters there again.
