A restaurant doesn't score 5 stars for being perfect - no no, 5 stars are reserved for that ideal mix of great food and feel within its own self-selected category. Siam Eatery has done exactly this, rising to the top of the food chain in the fast-eats Asian category in the busy Covent Garden area. First, the price point is right on with others in their category (think Wasabi and Itsu) at around 8 pounds for a solid meal. You can get away for 5.50 if you're not that hungry and don't want a drink - but then you'll miss out on their stellar Thai Iced Tea. And, might I add, this is the first quick-eats Asian place I've visited that has mastered - let alone even TRIED - Thai Iced Tea. DO IT. Second, mains are wonderful. Customisable and packed with flavour, the curries don't just peg to the meat and veg, there's enough juice in there to create that perfect coated, rich rice base that is why we REALLY love curry. Their everyday special chicken is stunning (think spicy-red curry), while their standard red and green are just as good and full of flavour. The options of red, brown and white rice, or without rice and salad instead, have reached Tortilla-level customisation without having traded options for quality (as Tortilla have done, IMHO). Third, it's crazy fast. Most everything is pre-made, as this category is good at, but they do so well to keep you from knowing it. Everything is kept hot and unpackaged (except for the fridge salads, of course), and made just for you. It really does feel like you've stumbled into a legit curry house here. The spot is busy come lunchtime, though you'll get dinner in 30 seconds flat. And unlike a lot of popular lunch spots around, they're open til 20:00 most nights, making dinner here feasible. There are about 10 seats in this place, but you don't need to eat here. Though it's nice and classy, this is undoubtedly a grab-and-go place. Seriously, though - don't forget your Thai Iced Tea. Would be a shame to miss the cherry atop the sundae at this gem of a curry palace. read more

Went here on a rainy day to have some Thai food to warm me up. The food definitely was warming, I had the red Thai veg curry which was super spicy (for me) but very tasty. The cafe is very well positioned for Covent Garden but is off the beaten track so not full of tourists. They have a selection of different warm dishes, varying in spicy-ness and meats. They also sell some lovely looking salads. The price is reasonable for Covent Garden with the veg curry costing £5 and salads £4.80. They also have a few seats inside and they don't charge you extra to eat in which is great! The staff are lovely too and will advise you on what to have if you're not a huge fan of spicy food (I only realised this after fighting my way through the red Thai curry though). I went back again today and had a delicious satay chicken sandwich which was very yummy. read more

I lived in Covent Garden for a year, and Siam Eatery was my go-to take away. Warm delicious Thai food, solid portions at a reasonable price for the area? Powerful combo! Seriously, if this place launched over here in the student area of Philly, the kids would go nuts. I probably visited Siam 20 odd times over the year (enough to get through a punch card and land my girlfriend a freebie), and was never disappointed. Staff are beyond incredibly friendly/chill and will steer you towards your ideal choice if you need a suggestion. You won't feel rushed here, and will only need to wait a minute for the end result. Small, but welcoming atmosphere. To anyone that lives in the area and has only visited once...shame on you for not going back and trying out the rest of the amazing options (unless you heroically defeated all options in one sitting). I came here on a weekday at around 1 pm - the line wasn't too long, and it moved very quickly which was a plus. It was pretty chilly/rainy outside so I was immediately drawn to the rice hot pot and ultimately opted for the Chicken Ginger one (I believe it's a Monday "special") with brown rice. Literally 5 minutes after I ordered, my food was ready! Not only was the service fast, but the food was hot and tasted great too. I have to say the topping (fried onion flakes?) wasn't my favorite, but the stuff underneath - the chicken, ginger, and rice - was really good. And it was really filling. I got the regular size this time, which was enough for 1.5 meals so in that sense you really get a lot for your money (I think I paid around 7). The only negative is that the place is pretty small so you'll likely have to take-out, but other than that I loved my experience here. read more

I think Siam Eatery is as good as it gets for quick Thai food on the go. The woman working was very helpful and patient with me as I scanned the menu for what to get. I settled on the Red Curry because the Green Curry just ran out - my fault, I came very close to closing. I also got the Banoffee (i think?) pudding dessert. I got my food so quickly! I think I was in and out of Siam Eatery within 5 minutes. The food was also super super delicious! I got a regular size for the red curry, and it was more than enough to fill me up for dinner. The pudding was also a great ending to the meal. 5 stars for the yummy, quick food and the wonderful service! I will definitely be back soon to try more items on the menu. read more

Was probably most impressed by the service here - it was take away so perhaps I only saw too small of a sliver but they were just really knowledgeable, customer focused and friendly. That's not always the case in the UK... I had the green chili curry and my only regret was that I didn't put more sriracha on it. It gets two chili signs but it was pretty mild IMHO. Bang for the buck its about on par with good, cheap eats in the strand/covent garden area but then again, there are not many very tasty Asian/SE Asian places worth visiting around here so I was pretty happy to find this one. First of all, their food is hot doesn't matter what time of the day you walk in they will serve you hot bowl of taste of South East Asia. This is the quickest and cheapest Thai place I've ever visited, and my meal tasted wonderful. The menu is pretty limited, but I can't complain since I usually find myself choosing between the same dishes whenever I go out for Thai food, and it offered all of them (noodles, curry, and soup). I got the red curry with vegetables, along with a mix of red & brown rice and salad. It cost me less than £6 and I think it took under 5 minutes to be served. The portion size was perfect -- I left very satisfied. The restaurant is small, and but I came here with 3 other friends and luckily we were all able to sit at the only table in there that was large enough to fit all of us. The employees were very friendly towards our group and created a nice atmosphere. Stumbled upon Siam Eatery just walking around the area while looking for Asian food (my hungry little boy's request). Kinda hesitated at first when we saw how tight the space was since we had a stroller. A man, who was about to go in and is apparently a regular customer, urged us to come in and promised that we wouldn't be disappointed. He was so right! The menu is small and very easy to navigate and the prices reasonable. We loved the chicken panang and beef mussaman curries with brown rice, and the Thai iced teas were perfectly refreshing in the heat. The portions were very filling and the curries so flavorful and hearty. I thought the food was better than some Thai restaurants we go to in Southern California. I got the stir fried noodles with chicken before a show at Lyceum Theatre and was quite disappointed. The noodles never touched a hot pan of any sort, the chicken was not spiced (or any of the ingredients for that matter) and the entire meal was bland - not sure why this is considered stir fried? As a fan of all thai food, I had to check this place out after walking past and getting a whiff of what was cooking inside. It did not disappoint. I don't know what authentic Thai food tastes like, but I do know that this one was delicious. I tried both the green and red curry - vegetarian style (which was nice because a lot of Thai curries have fish sauces in them). They were both delicious! The smaller size is more than enough but I could definitely have finished the large. The only disappointment was that they don't have tofu, but it was amazing without so can't complain too much! read more

The woman working the cash register was friendly and chatty, and when I had trouble deciding, she offered me a taste of the Duck Par-Lo, which I ended up ordering. The soup was piping hot, delicious, and affordable at 5.65. The place is tiny though, so we were lucky we'd arrived after the lunch rush and could get a table. Discovered SIAM eatery through a work colleague who had been raving about it. There was a queue when I arrived and the place was buzzing with people on their lunch break (a good sign!). I ordered the Beef Massaman along with Thai prawn crackers and a drink to go with it. To put it simply - the food was AMAZING! The flavours were reminiscent of my time spent travelling through Thailand and had a real home cooked taste and freshness about it. Yum, great stuff here! I've been twice for their green curry / brown rice bowl. Really filling -the small sized portion is more than enough. While the green curry says that it's spicy, for spice eaters, it's not really noticeable. Thankfully there is a lot of Sriracha / Vietnamese spicy sauce on hand to add to your bowl. I've also had the thai iced tea - large portion which was too much to finish. Really spot on (reminded me of what I've had in Chiang Mai for example) ... but I guess the sweetness got to me by the end and couldn't finish it. You order at the counter - during lunch time be prepared to queue up out the door and onto the sidewalk. In the evening, it's much less busy. Have eaten inside at some of their few tables once - squeezed in next to another couple. Close quarters, so maybe better to take it and eat outside somewhere (like Covent Garden!). Chopsticks on hand, plasticware, and the paper cups that the curry comes in. Even if you're eating in, feels like your picnic-ing. Keeps the cost down though -- around 5 pounds for a vegetarian curry bowl. Friendly service at the counter and curries come out quite quickly (the Thai Iced tea took an oddly long amount of time...). Unfortunately no restroom for patrons! I've gotten a frequent patron card ... I'll be back here for some cheap Thai curry right by Aldwych/LSE/Covent Garden. read more
