Love this store. The ambiance is soothing with a classic elevated environment perfect to a classic upscale line of fine quality fabrics and leathers. The customer service is top notch. Took one star off because I have a pet peave about putting clothing on a display mannequin that is not in stock and we ran into a couple of those situations at this store. We loved a shirt that is no longer in stock even online. We purchased a similar item online with the help of the sales person so overall it was a successful trip. read more

Can't say enough good things about this location. They could have designed a boring typical Newbury store like every other shop on the street, but they really went far beyond expectations creating this lovely location. The layout is fantastic. The beautiful wooden stair case throughout the store, and gorgeous decorations make for an excellent shopping experience. For those not familiar this store does not contain lower branded polo items found at department stores and the like. At their flagship Newbury location there is home offerings as well as clothing from what they call Ralph's Personal Collection and Purple Label. Much of it is hand made in Italy from premium well established mills, and prices that reflect that. The quality is fantastic and the service is equally so. For suiting they offer Off the Rack (OFR) as well as Made to Measure and custom suiting services. The suits are all made in the US or Italy, and from reputable mills. With out a doubt the suits here seriously put preform other local suiting options I've found in similar price ranges by miles. Their Polo MTM program offers tons of suits starting at around $1,300 it seemed. The quality and fact it was made in US or Italy is alone not something hardly any of the suiting options sub 2k in Boston can offer. Highly Recommend. Other reviewers have mentioned "snooty" service and the like. But I have found none of it to be true. The service I received was fantastic and well above what was expected. The amount of time the manager Anthony took to answer my many questions and guide me through their tailoring process without an appointment will not be forgotten. He was extremely pleasant, educated, and had good opinions. The service was tailored, personable, and honest. Anthony helped guide me towards garments that were best suited to me and my price range. The resident tailor at the store Basam was equally impressive. He is by far the best tailor I've encountered in Boston and delivers an excellent degree of tailoring recommendations. He is extremely pleasant to work with and extremely kind. The garments he delivers you will fit perfectly the first time every time. Overall I really can't say enough good things about the store. It isn't very often I encounter an excellent shopping experience as I did here. There are very few luxury stores on Newbury that can deliver the same perfection in service, quality, and price. It is nice of them to hire invalids. you don't see that anymore in retail. One Sales-boy confessed to me he was recently hospitalized with psychotic illness. It is very sad, because his mother did not recognize the boy had severe ADHD and it went untreated. He could have been a model- a real shame. A wasted life. read more

I called to ask if they had a particular item in store. I had to wait 13 minutes for them to transfer me to someone in the women's department, only to have the employee dismiss me and hang up before I could even complete my sentence. Very rude. And not worth my money. read more

Whenever I visit this Ralph Lauren store, I feel like I'm coming home. My yiayia (Greek, anyone?) shopped here for me when I was growing up. Now as an adult, I stop in to buy clothes when I visit my family. Unlike regular department stores which carry the Ralph Lauren label, this is a Purple Label store, which means they have the high end garments that are only available at stores like this one. They are also incredibly expensive and not something that I can buy. But they are nice to look at. Sales happen quite often and at those times, there are always good merchandise to buy. Yes, there are some strange looking things that they sell, but hey, that's haute couture. Downstairs in sportswear, I often speak directly with Darwin who greets you as you enter the store. Upstairs, I most often work with Edwin. These are both people I most often work with and therefore, from my personal experience, would recommend to work with when visiting the store. James has helped me as well on several occasions. All employees are dedicated to their profession and are long term Ralph Lauren associates. It is a beautiful location with three levels. Women's is on the third floor. At sale time, things become very affordable (for example, there was a beautiful $2,500 suit on sale for $600). The clothes last a long time, so buying things that are a little more expensive shouldn't feel so bad. I still have items that I've been wearing for 10 years. When you buy a classic, it never goes bad. To all yelp people, apparently, one of the reviewers (as of writing this entry) had a bad experience. The staff is professional and well informed contrary to the slanderous remarks made in another review. read more

By far the most beautiful, and my personal favorite store in all of Boston, yes above Burberry, and yes above Brooks Brothers. Normally I don't like shopping in high end clothing stores, mostly for the fact that their clothes are no better. According to Ralph Lauren's 10-K quarterly filing, their clothes are manufactured in Burma. No surprise, yet anyone who shops at the GAP or anywhere else knows your clothes are coming from some poor, abused, enslaved individual in Uganda or Cambodia and so on. Regardless, there's really no place to purchase clothes, unless made from your own hands, where you won't feel guilty for supporting the abuse of another human being. At any rate, this four-story, one-time town house was converted into a gorgeous botique with rich wood trim and partial lounge on the top floor. My one set-back are the employees at the front of the store. If they sneer at you just reply with "what the hell are you glaring at me for, I'm not the one who WORKS here." Once I'm in, i'm all set. RL Newbury has the complete collection of all the classic styles. You could wear these clothes for 15 years and still look fabulous and classy. read more

I went to this Ralph Lauren store to buy my sister a coat. The store was very well stocked and the clothes were gorgeous. I am giving my experience only two stars because the service was horrible. The salesgirls were snotty and more interested in discussing the movie Twilight and less interested in helping me with my questions. I mentioned this to a friend of mine in the fashion industry and he told me that that is the reputation of this location and in the future I should go to the one in Copley Place for better service in the future. read more

I received a gift purchased from www.ralphlauren.com and needed to exchange it. I had initially planned to ship it back, but figured I was going to be doing some Christmas shopping in the area anyway, so I brought it into the store. Despite the receipt explicitly stating that returns can be made at any store, I was informed that they couldn't give me credit for an online purchase. They would ship it back for me and I would receive an email with a credit for use on the website. While I was there, I figured I'd shop for a shirt as a gift for my brother-in-law. I had a question about sleeve lengths, as they weren't marked on the shirts I was looking at. Even though the store was not very crowded and the staff didn't seem busy, I seemed to be invisible and couldn't get anyone's attention. If that were the extent of it, I would give them 2 stars for a very poorly stated policy and poor service in the store. Unfortunately, there has been no email in the two weeks since. Now I'm left to having my sister-in-law, the gift-giver, try to track down the return. I will not be purchasing from this store or the website in the future. read more

I went shopping on Newbury Street yesterday and decided to go into RL looking for a pair of riding boots. The staff couldn't be bothered to help me right from the get go. The staff almost seemed annoyed when I asked for my size to try on. I couldn't believe how rude they were. The staff member "helping" me gave me the box and walked away. I didn't even bother trying them on and walked out of the store aggravated with the pathetic level of customer service. Better off ordering online. read more

A lot of high-end stores have salesclerks with similarly high-end attitudes. Not this store. Despite my only going in here at sale time (where you can find some excellent deals), looking like a hobo and buying little to nothing (maybe a tie or a pair of pants, and only occasionally), I get nothing but consistently excellent service. This Ralph carries the upmarket clothes of Ralph Lauren, no t-shirts here. There service is amazing. Every time I come in there is always some one greeting me. On my way back to my flat, I stopped by to see if they had the Wimbledon collection. The sales clerk said he would check and said he would call me when it came it. i gave him my info and everything, very courteous, and kind, that is how you build a client base. Probably most beautifully displayed store in Boston!! Men's floors look like a billiard club furnished with actual pool tables and dark hardwood finishes. Beautifully displayed artwork along walls. I have always been a huge fan of Polo Ralph Lauren clothing. I frequently order online or go to department stores like Macy's to pick up some of their stuff. I learned just recently that they actually have a store on Newbury Street, which is a street that I visit quite frequently. So shame on me for not finding them out earlier. Anyway, the store is kind of close to Boston Common and next to Georgetown Cupcake. It doesn't have a huge front but no one can mistake the pony on the blue canopy. The store is nicely decorated and carries the latest products of the Polo line and also the high end Purple Label. I originally bought two oxford button downs, one is white with blue stripes and the other one is just the classic blue. The first one ends up being good but I had to exchange the second one because there was a cotton ball on the thread and I couldn't manage to get it off. I exchanged just today for an Azure colored shirt in the exact same style. This one seems to be good quality with just a little bit of thread overlaying at the wrong place. This is hardly visible so I will probably end up keeping the shirt. They have great customer service. The entire exchange process took me less that 10 minutes and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly let alone their professionalism. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star is that the quality of the products doesn't seem to quite match up with the ones ordered online. But then it might just be my case. Either way, I definitely recommend shopping there. read more

Yes, the store is amazingly beautiful and the clothes are amazing. But the service is horrendous. Customer service at Burberry, Saks, Karen Millen, Louis Vuitton are all so much better. It's unfortunate that I love Ralph Lauren and 80% of my clothing is Ralph Lauren Blue Label, but their associates could not be more unhelpful. The associates at the Rugby Stores are a little better. I think it has to do with age. Older people (those that work at the Ralph Lauren stores,) may feel like they have paid their dues in life and no longer need to be courteous. I'm probably not going to stop shopping there but more of my shopping might be done online. One huge drawback to Ralph Lauren's online shopping return policy is that they only give you online-store credit if you make a return. If you make a return within 30 days with the receipt, you should be able to get 100% of your money back, returned to your credit card. It didn't matter for me because I purchase something from their online store at least once a month, but that business model is terrible for the customer. Otherwise, the clothes are gorgeous and every single store is beautiful. read more
