More than any other doctor I've met in my life, Dr. Rosenfeld breaks very complicated things down into plain English and is very open to input from us as parents. I really feel like he's been a partner in our son's care, not the BOSS, in the best possible way. When we decided not to list our son for a heart transplant, he made it clear he totally respected our decision and jumped right in with other medical treatment options. Even when things looked really grim, he remained optimistic, without negating how hard things were. He's helped us feel empowered and is very flexible in terms of trying things we want to try and explaining why he thinks different options might be useful or not useful. He has a great sense of humor, relaxed and kind bedside manner and is very approachable. We love Dr. Hunkypants, as we call him in our house :-)

We learn of our daughter's heart condition prior to her birth which gave us the opportunity to meet multiple doctors and educate ourselves around her condition. After meeting Dr. Rosenfeld, we knew he was our doctor. In addition to giving our daughter the best cardiac care possible, Dr. Rosenfeld patiently educates us on very complex cardiac issues and makes them understandable. He has had to explain the same thing to us a number of times, but never rushes or gets frustrated with us. (Or if he does get frustrated, he doesn't show it!) He cares for our daughter with unmatched compassion and love. His bedside manner is wonderful. He makes all of us feel at peace. Every time something would go "wrong" we would feel so much better within 10 minutes of talking to Dr. Rosenfeld because he always had it under control and had a plan. He is always reachable and available to address any concern - big or small. What better recommendation that to say we trust him with our daughter's fragile life. And it is true - we trust him completely. We feel very blessed to be in the Bay Area which affords us access to some of the best doctors in the world. Dr. Rosenfeld is absolutely a blessing in our lives.

A team of doctors was assigned to his care and leading the treatment was Dr. Joseph Walsh, the cardiologist. Once my dad was stabilized, he was moved to ICU. For the next four days, I saw Dr. Walsh visit my dad frequently. He took the time to sit with my dad and evaluate him thoroughly and monitored his progress with keen interest. He made sure my dad got the prescribed medications, diet, exercise and directed the attending nurse meticulously. All along, he discussed the diagnosis and plan with me with great patience. I truly feel that the Dr. Walsh saved my dad that day. Once my dad was discharged, Dr. Walsh proactively followed up with us and offered a comprehensive plan of action, which included placing a high-tech heart monitor, several relevant and revealing tests, and coordinated with other specialists, including GI specialist. It can be overwhelming for the patient/family to tackle so many specialists, but Dr. Walsh personally spoke with other doctors on the team and became our single point of contact. Dr. Walsh not only demonstrated his expertise in cardiology, but he did it with the warmest, most caring attitude. It felt like he was treating his own dad. My dad was comforted by his mere presence. This is profound and rare in today's medical experience. My family and I are eternally grateful to Dr. Walsh - thank you!

She was very attentive every time I saw her. Extra thorough I found out about stuff I had that no other doctor ever told me before. I was shocked to read that people would say things they were saying about her. I think after sometimes some personality just don't hit it off very well and to be honest that one lady that I think that said she was a nurse said that Dr Borses said something about her blood pressure was up a bit and wanted to change her pills just didn't like being told something she didn't want to hear. Dr Borses said pretty much the same thing to me and she changed my pills and she was right to do so because she was right. Some people have attitudes and they get so offensive when they hear stuff that upset them and have to blame someone from their own rudeness. That pure joy of happy five star doctor reviews is because five stars means my family or I have been treated with dignity, respect and with competence! All patients deserve to be treated as such. Our dear, sweet daughter was having some minor chest pains. It was important to have her checked out. Our cool and new family doctor referred her to the office of Dr. Saw and Dr. Lin. We were told both doctors were top-notch. Dr. Saw saw ('lil pun!) our daughter. Top-notch indeed! Wow- the employees; every single one of them were gems! All our our questions were respectfully answered without a hint of arrogance by any medical employee...refreshing! Dr. Saw was very thorough regarding heart tests; two total. Tests were done at his Pleasanton and Livermore offices. Our family was thrilled that the testing is done right there in his offices vs that nearby hospital...phewww! As Dr. Saw stated, by doing the tests in his offices, the hospital bureaucracy issues could be avoided. We agreed 100%! Happy to report that our daughter is fine and has a healthy heart... and a heart of gold. One issue of concern was in regards to the test results. We were told to make an appointment to discuss the second test results with Dr. Saw. That would have meant three office visits in three days; a lot of time out of our busy schedules. I called the office explaining this and requested that if the test results were fine, that we be notified. And, if the results were not fine, requested we be called and we would then schedule another appointment to discuss the test results. I was happy they agreed to my request. The technician did tell my daughter on the spot that everything was A-OK. I truly recommend Dr. Saw and his staff. Also recommend you request a follow-up appointment to discuss test results only if the tests show there is an issue that needs addressing. The entire staff is very friendly, informative and actually fun to talk to.

So he gets an extra point for social skills and expertise. If you have atherosclerosis or some other common heart condition, he may well save your life, at least in the short run, and have great success even over the long term. He may also have saved my partner's life when his heart was seriously fibrillating, though I think an earlier doctor at the hospital really gets the credit as being the one on duty first. If you want to try out alternative medicine, he is not your man (though he seems to have nothing against taking extra CoQ10, magnesium and d-ribose if you think of it yourself). Also, he does not seek out root causes that may be outside the field of cardiology, such as possible causes for lone atrial fibrillation (which according to my unprofessional research of publications could be due to B1 deficiency - in the US most likely caused by alcoholism, or Lyme disease, thyroid or other glandular problems, diabetes, or something else.) I give our case as an example. Lone atrial fibrillation is our issue. It may not be yours. Expect prescription heart-related drugs. Do your own homework about side effects. He did not seem helpful when we raised concerns about long-term side effects. When we talked about warfarin a couple of years ago, he did not discuss the pros and cons of warfarin versus other anti-coagulants, but just tried to scare the patient into continuing warfarin. I feel this is negligent. There are alternatives, including at least two other prescription drugs. Perhaps insurance won't pay for them, but that is no reason to withhold information about them. (Insurance or economic conditions for the patient may change, after all. Warfarin is a Vitamin K2 antagonist and as such can cause osteoporosis, by the way. Other heart medicine may also cause osteoporosis. Dr. Bowden is not concerned. I am. It would make logical sense to monitor bone density over time. Nobody is doing that.) Regarding atrial fib, his only explanation was that in this case it was probably caused by a virus, and if you went looking for it, it would be gone by now. In my humble opinion, settling too quickly on that as an explanation fails to rule out other causes, thereby potentially missing something very important. (Though to be fair, a prior blood test did not suggest thyroid problems, so we can probably rule that one out.) He is assuming the cause is now gone, and only the atrial fibrillation remains. I am not so sure the initial cause is gone. I know the patient. He has other problems that have not been addressed (including possible Lyme disease - given the number of tick bites he has had, sometimes while sleeping, so the ticks were on him for hours, not minutes) and if they are not the cause of the atrial fib, they most likely contribute to his overall ill health, including adversely affecting the atrial fib. Unfortunately, the patient cannot afford to pay for any tests that his conventional docs do not think to do. All in all, if I had to have a cardiologist in an emergency, I would not be worried if Dr. Bowden was assigned to me at the hospital. For long-term care, though, I would look beyond Dr. Bowden. His may be focusing too narrowly within his specialty.
