Dr. Harner was my GP for a few years when I lived in Sonoma County. All was fine until I came in to see him because my left foot and ankle had become dramatically swollen. Dr. Harner led me to believe there was nothing to worry about. Turns out a swollen foot is a symptom of deep vein thrombosis: a blood clot in the calf. Sure enough, a couple weeks later the blood clot moved into my lungs, and I was hospitalized with a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Dr. Harner should have recognized I was in danger; he could have at least sent me to a specialist for another opinion, as there was clearly something wrong. I feel lucky to be alive. read more

Horrible doctor when it comes to medication refills. On multiple occasions when we call the pharmacy for a refill we are told that it has to be renewed through the provider (Dr. Harner). It always takes more than 72 hours for him to refill a prescription. For instance, I called the pharmacy for a refill of albuterol for a nebulizer six days ago. I was told that the doctor would need to renew the prescription. Dr. Harner was called, but we never got a call back. Checked with the pharmacy today and it was never renewed and now completely out of albuterol. Dr. Harner's office now says 72 hours to refill. Why should it take 9 days to get a refill? If you're like me with chronic breathing problems, stay away from this doctor. read more

I need to say thank-you to Dr. Harner and all of his support staff. A few years ago, my awesome doctor retired and referred me to Sutter Health group, and I feel lucky. They are consistently very responsive and respectful, even during this period of COVID. Dr. Harner still manages to give me his full attention. Responses and appointments are somehow always prompt. I'm never kept waiting in their office, and I never feel rushed by him. I always leave there feeling like he listened closely and thoroughly addressed the issue, even if it's just advice. Also, I've needed three referrals, and they've all been stellar. He's a good one, and he knows all the other good ones. Their web-system is great, too. I'm immediately in touch with them, I can see all my records and test results. In the last few years, I've had two surgeries and a bout of pneumonia, and everyone in that group communicates seamlessly with each other. Strongly recommend Dr. Harner and Sutter Health. read more

Pros: same-day appointments are often available. When I haven't been able to see my primary doctor for last-minute appointments (also based out of the office), I've been able to get an appointment with Dr Harner. His nurse is also very nice. Cons: Sure he's a nice guy, but there is a lack of caring in his treatment. I last went into his office in excruciating pain, and he wrote a physical therapy referral, said it would take a couple of days to go through, and that "if this were an emergency, I'd put it through faster." What? Multiple days just to get a referral?? And you mean, my excruciating pain that stops me from sleeping and keeps me from working isn't reason enough to expedite the process? I would hate to be the person who actually has an "emergency" in his mind. I've seen a lot of doctors over the years for chronic problems, and based on a lot of experience, I would say my visits with Harner have been odd and the service is ridiculous. I selected Dr. Harner as my primary care physician when I moved to Rohnert in June 2016. I have been very impressed with his thorough, attentive care, and I love his medical assistant Alicia! He is patient, listens, and is non-judgmental. I appreciate Sutter's computer record system which allows me to send him questions if I need clarification on anything; Dr. Harner always responds the same day. We have been long time patients of Dr. Thomas Moore, so when he retired we had no idea who to see to be our new family doctor. One of the nurses in his office recommended Dr Rex Harner, have to say thank god we have Dr. Harner! Our family have been patients of Dr. Harners since we moved to Rohnert Park in 2000. Although I have changed insurance a couple of times, I always come back to his practice. He is a no-nonsense country doctor type, will tell you what you need to hear, and keeps his practice up-to-date. read more

We used to see Dr harner, but ended up with an insurance he didn't take (medi-cal, although he may have changed that since who knows). He does family medicine but kids didn't seem to be his specialty, although he sees kids (ie had flu shot but not the mist, but again this was yrs ago ). He was very thorough checking out my son over course of multiple visits before diagnosing with asthma, very thorough. He also gives referrals for anything he can't do which is great too. read more

Please if you have any health problems, Like Diabetes , High blood pressure, GET far far away from this Dr he does not keep up with the latest meds and pay little atten to you labs the most importaint parts of the labs, he is too old to be in business, He just about killed me. read more

Dr. Harner has been my primary care physician for close to twenty years. He is a no nonsense physician that is thorough and careful in his practice. I've never felt "rushed" or ignored in his office and his support staff is great. I use Sutter's computer record system which allows me to send him questions if I need clarification on anything and Sutter's written synopsis of every visit has been very instrumental in my being aware of the directions for meds or treatment I've been given. I have always had same-day answers when I email him. I wouldn't expect any more from my primary care physisian. read more
