Initial visit went rather well. I was desperately seeking a Doctor that could help with a rather brutal issue...he agreed to give me an ongoing script, but told me he " Couldn't help me, as he had no experience with tapering off dangerous benzos. " I still juggled horribly and finally went back. Mark of was irate that I hadn't seen him in a while. ( ummm doctor you told me initially you "couldn't help me"!! ) and when I told the doctor I was struggling horribly he snapped " I didn't prescribe you the drugs that damaged you!" I said I realized that...then again saying how horribly I was doing, he stated "You were nicer the last time I saw you!" WHAT? He made it all about him! I'm sitting there frail and asking for help and I get that reception...basically rude and victim blaming.! He was eager to start me in statins when an initial blood panel showed a small rise in cholesterol. ( I'm Vegan...never had any issues with elevated chlolesterol).I told him "no " to the statins and he told me he was on them...to quote him.." I like my drugs." Yes, I noticed that from that and prior visits. No thanks! But being treated so rudely my last visit I never returned. I know some doctors prefer compliant clients..but I research drugs for negative impacts on health and and am open about my reluctance to just take drugs arbitrarily .. Just felt treated rudely, badly and gave up on doctor markhoff, and asked on Nextdoor for other client opinions...honestly some were fine regarding him and others felt he didn't listen..which was my take on him. I sought help as I was struggling so horribly, and got rebuffed in a negative manner. I've also e realized the doctor will throw multiple suggestions of scripts and when declined ( the scripts suggested would exacerbate the akathesia I was already suffering horribly from!) he got huffy and said " You need to see a psychologist!! read more

I rarely give negative reviews. But for this Dr. William Markoff, I've been itching to write for awhile now. I've been to many practices and have seen many Dr's, but this one is by far, the worst I've ever had. Since my first visit, The staff encountered problems and frankly, he doesn't even care about his patients. Even my kids refuse to go see him. Definitely changing my PCP. read more

I am quite amazed to see the bad reviews for Dr Markoff - I think he's excellent. I am relatively new to the area and have seen him for routine checkups as well as something not so routine. I find him thorough, compassionate, knowledgable. He never seems rushed and is willing to talk through any questions/concerns I might have. So far, he's been great. I'm a mid-60's senior. I also love the fact that if you have a sudden concern, you don't have to wait days/weeks to see him. They take same day appointments every day, just call in when they open at 815am and get slot. Don't know why it's taken me so long to write a review. I've been seeing Dr. Markoff going on about 20 years or so. I needed to find a new doctor when my previous doctor of 20+ years stopped taking the insurance I had at that time. My first appointment with him, all those years ago, was more of an interview experience - where did you go to school, medical bonafides sort of thing. It was an opportunity to try and gage his manner, medical expertise, and determine if we would be able to work well together. He was then, as he is now, open, direct, well educated, extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and professional. The one and only drawback is he doesn't do hospital visits. He was very upfront about this right at that first visit. And I appreciated knowing this from the get go so I could make an informed decision. He's very tuned into the medical community and has always provided me with excellent referrals when needed. We've gotten along great all these years. Appointments are easy to make on a timely basis. All the staff working there are truly fabulous. I especially appreciate nurse Fred and always hope to see him when I'm there. He's so knowledgeable and kind. My rule of thumb in seeking medical professionals - medical education counts, they have to be smart, they have to be direct, they have to have excellent critical thinking skills, and I have to trust them. Check on all counts. It's just a bonus that we also get along very well. read more

I am moving slow after 76 days in the hospital and was a few minutes late to my appointment. They refused to see me. They are unprofessional, unpleasant and lack compassion. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Dr Markoff has served as my physician for 15 years. He is always cheerful, remembers me and my particular issues and needs, and gives me needed advice and counsel. It is completely ok to bring a note pad to take notes when results are being given to your husband from a CT scan so you the wife can write stuff down that makes no sense so you can ask questions as the spot on the lung is being chatted about along with calcified arteries around his heart. A bit shocking to us. I was asked what I was doing and was chastised by him the Dr for taking notes. It is never ok to tell a patient or his support to put a piece of paper away. In today's world and as my husband advocate it is not acceptable. And more of an ego move on the Dr's part. Shameful that someone hasn't share with him that it's the norm. I was told to put it away. Dr. Markoff has been my family physician for well over 10 years, ever since my last physician had the temerity to up and die with no advance notice. Dr. Markoff is an expert at diagnosing unusual problems. For example I had an excruciating headache for a couple of weeks. He was out on vacation at the time (even doctors need time off, I guess), so I had to see someone else. That doctor decided I must have a brain tumor and sent me to get a brain scan, which looked fine. By then, Dr. Markoff had returned and I was able to see him. He immediately diagnosed it as TMJ, the result of some dental work performed on me a few weeks earlier. He prescribed a muscle relaxant and the headache was gone in 24 hours. That's just one example of how good he is. I definitely recommend him. read more

Dr. Markoff is a great doctor and a home boy, being brought up right here in Santa Rosa. He graduated from the prestigious Loyola University of Chicago and obtained his medical degree from State University of New York Syracuse. His background is impeccable and is an incredible advocate for his patients. I play guitar so we have a bond as he is an avid guitar player. Started off to be a great DR.. his staff is awesome however when my daughter fell very ill I told him specifically what I believed was causing her condition yet he sent her for numerous tests after tests totally having nothing to do with her symptoms. . We went from hospital to hospital he never followed up on what was happening and he told me after I persisted what I felt that even if I were right it wouldn't be an emergency situation... a year later and she was diagnosed with EVERY condition I told him and nearly lost her life as a side effect from one of the conditions is anaphylaxis. .. all I can say is thank goodness I am a persistent mother and we found another DR. read more

I saw the doc for a shoulder injury, he was more concerned about scheduling a physical than diagnosing the reason I was at the doctor in the first place. he icing on the cake was he gave me a cortisone shot and his office coded it on my invoice as an office surgery? $145 in labor not counting the medicine for 1 shot, less than 30 seconds. I called billing and they told me to call the office and the saga continued. I eventually paid the bill to protect my credit and by the way incorrect diagnosis on the shoulder. Very arrogant and condesending. Did not like his demeanor at all. Went to see him for a physical as he is blue shield provider. Ws told during the exam that he could only bill for vitals and if i had other age appropriate questions, i neede to book more appts so he could bill more. He runs late but is so quick to cut me off once his 30 mins is up. I did not like his personal irrelevent remarks either. He is not a good listener to his patients concerns. At another appt, nurse practioneer , Tori Doolittle informed me hysterically that I has an extreme high white blood count, which really startled me. She suggested more tests. He is very attentive and takes as much time as necessary to attend to our problems, never rushed. Always follows up on any tests or procedures with a phone call. Our only complain was the rude people that run the office, and the last minute changes as to having to see a nurse practitioner instead of the doctor with whom we had initially made the appointment. The nurse practitioner was clue less most of the time, so her solution was to send us to the ER. (happen more than twice ) So... Dr. Markoff was a blessed find. HIs office is like the old days, small , cordial, friendly staff. He is so on time I barely sat down. My wife had only great things to say about his candor, his thoroughness, and his insights. He seems to generally care about us and our problems. He immediately asked about all my preventive care, on my first visit. Subsequent visits showed, intelligence kindness and empathy. I cannot say enough good about him and his practice. biggest scum bag in the game. this happened almost 2 years ago but now that I'm on Yelp again I want to let everyone know. Went in to see DR Markoff because he was one of the providers on my insurance that kept popping up so I thought ok guaranteed my insurance will cover. He was very very condescending, arrogant, self-centered etc. but this was after he said "I smell cigarette smoke on you, did you smoke before you came in here!?" I said "uhh yes" so he said "well that is HIGHLY OFFENSIVE you have contaminated the bldg. there is a rule here you cannot smoke an hour or less before coming in here" So i told him if thats their dam* rule they need to post it and alert people to it and that its not my fault if I was not informed about it. But it didn't end there, oh no!! I got a letter banning me from his practice, which later I found would ban me from ALL of Northern CA Medical Associates practices, which is about 50 plus locations. this man got me banned from an entire company, yes its true.....beware!!!! read more

Very discouraged with Dr. Markoff as my mother became old and frail. At 90 years of age, we were basically told by his office that she was becoming too much paperwork because she was in an assisted-living environment where they had to get approval for all treatment. We quickly got a new doctor after receiving that information, but it was too late....the delay in everything resulted in the inability to catch not only blood clots in both legs but sepsis shock. Satff was unorganized and rude, hard to schedule an appointment, didn't feel like I was taken seriously by the doctor or staff. Referrals were made to specialist but were rejected because the staff/dr didn't put any reason as to why the referral was being made. I was told by the staff I would have to fight Sutter to see the specialist, I had seen prior to switching Insurance Companies. In fact I switched my family to another doctor and he was on rotation for the weekend and spent the appointment with my son trying to argue with me about how good of a doctor he is. He said to me, "That if you are the only one out of thousands of patients that was not pleased with his services he could live with that". I was very sick and getting worst and needed to be seen by a specialist. To bad he has potential but needs to learn to listen to his patients and not be so insecure. read more

I'm truly sad that some of Dr. Markoff patients gave him bad reviews. My family have been patients of his for over 5 years. Love, love, love his staff, especially Medical Assistants Fred and Mary Ann. Only once during this time have any of us had to wait more than 10 minutes (a special emergency occurred on that occasion). He's a competent, professional doctor, a good listener, always upbeat around me (I never leave without at least one chuckle). He's human, and a good human at that. If I had even a little criticism it would be in the early years a nurse practitioner didn't "get it right" and I didn't feel a complete trust with her assessments. Dr. Markoff is extremely knowledgeable and always seems to know the latest information in his field. I trust Dr. Markoff with my life, and more importantly, my family's lives. I know that he will do whatever it takes to provide us with the best care we can possibly receive. Dr. Markoff has been my doctor for about 10 years and I highly recommend him. What I like most about him is that he asks questions and really listens to determine what is going on, and he explains things in detail so you not only understand the treatment plan but why he thinks that treatment is the best course. He also seems to take a more holistic approach to treatment than some doctor's I've had in the past, and doesn't seem to shy away from considering alternative treatments when they seem appropriate. I appreciate the time he takes with me, and I like how sometimes (if it is relevant) he will share a personal anecdote about his own health or his wife's health and how he/she dealt with it, since we are close in age and it relates to what I'm going through. Despite the time he takes, it never seems like I have to wait very long when I go to the office. The nurses in that office are also great, especially Fred who always remembers my name and asks how I'm doing. I've never had an issue with the front office staff either. I'm sorry a couple of people here had not-good experiences with him, and I imagine every doctor & office has not-great interactions with patients sometimes...but honestly, my experiences over the past 10 years have been really stellar. Especially after all these years since he knows me (as a patient only) and my medical history, and I imagine takes that into consideration when treating me. read more
