Scheduled service for my new 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring for it's 3500 mile inspection. Called and scheduled an appointment. I arrived at the location and there is no place to check-in for service. There is a service entrance, but no service desk (I later found out you are suppose to go into one of the service adviser's office, never seen that approach before.) I went inside the waiting area looking for someone. The desk where you come in was for the parts but again, no signage to indicate it's function. The one person there, when they saw me walk in, turned and walked into the back. I stood around there for about 5 minutes before they came back. I informed them I had a service appointment and they stood there with a blank look like, "You are telling me this why?" They told me someone would be with me soon. After standing around for another 15 minutes (total 20 so far), someone finally came in to one of the service adviser's office and the person behind the parts counter did go tell them I was waiting. The adviser told me she would be with me in a minute and left. After waiting another 15 minutes, now 30 minutes past my appointment time, I left.
When I got home, I look up the information for the service manager, a task that was not too easy I might add. I left him an email explaining what happened and express my disappointment. A few hours later I got a call from the manager who tried apologizing about the service and swore that was not normal. He asked me to give them another chance and scheduled an appointment for the following week. They couldn't do it on Saturday like I wanted so I had to schedule it for Friday after work.
When I arrived for the the appointment, the service manager was there to meet me and took me into the office of one of the service advisers, where I sat waiting for 5 minutes before someone finally came in. They started doing the paperwork for the inspection. They wrote me up to have the tires rotated and oil change, but the maintenance manual states at 3500, only an inspection was required. The first oil change wasn't due until 7500 miles. When I pointed this out, they insisted because of their location, heat and having to drive up a large hill from the valley, they treat it as sever driving, which does recommend an oil change at 3500 miles. However, I pointed out to them that I had just moved up to the area and the 3500 miles was done down in the valley under the normal driving condition so it didn't need the oil change. After some discussion, she said she had to get the manager to approve the change in the service at which time I had to go through the whole discussion again with the manager. He finally relented and took off all the extra service.
After we got the paperwork done, been there for about 15 minutes now. They finally took the car back for the service. After about 20 minutes, they come back to show the results of the inspection, making a very strong point that the oil was "dark". They let me know they were now going to wash the car. I have been to full service detailing shops that took less time than they did to just wash the car. I was finally able to get out of there after more than an hour for a simple inspection!
When it came time for the 7500 mile service, I drove the 90 miles to Oxnard Hyundai where I bought the car and treat customers right. I will *NEVER* go back to Rally and gladly drive the distance to Oxnard in the future.
As a side note, after my service at Oxnard, they made sure I was completely satisfied with the service and let me know I would be getting a follow up from Hyundai about the service. After leaving Rally, they didn't bother asking how the service was and I never got any follow up. Hmmmm..... I wonder way after reading these other comments.
One other thing, Rally reported at least my mileage to Carfax without my permission or authorization. I consider this to be personal and private information they shouldn't be giving to anyone without my approval. read more
