Mulligans Arcade & Tavern - Santa Fe chicken pasta

I ordered the Chicago beef for lunch and it was amazing. Slow roasted sliced beef with pickled peppers and veggies. The sauce was fantastic. They have really good fries, lightly battered and doubled fried. Crisp and flavorful. For the kids, a good sized cheeseburger and chicken strips. No complaints from them either! Service was fine, the place has open seating and a bar, pretty typical these days. They also have an arcade with several games and prize based activities. Overall, a great day/night out in Clayton. This is also located right off I40 on route 42, there are a lot of other establishments to check out as well for drinks, dessert or second dinner!

The disappointment was the service and food. Our waitress was very friendly but she didn't know the menu or even the specials for that evening. I ordered a margarita which took over 15 minutes to arrive. The place wasn't busy and three of the staff were sitting at the bar chatting so I don't understand why it took so long to come to the table. The margarita was on the weak side. We ordered the Scotch eggs, sausage rolls and poutine. The eggs of the Scotch eggs were cooked perfectly but the sausage meat was extremely overpowering. I think they must add a lot of seasoning in it, and honestly it was too much for me. The breading was good and fried well but the sausage was so overwhelming that I just took the egg out and ate that. I do think they use the same sausage meat in the sausage rolls. The pastry was nice and they were a good temperature. But again the sausage meat was so strongly seasoned it was off putting. I do want to note that I grew up in Scotland so I am probably a harsh critic of the Scotch eggs and sausage rolls but my American husband thought similarly to me. The poutine was good. The cheese curds were nicely melted and the gravy was nicely balanced. It was a cool place to check out but I wouldn't go back in a hurry.

How excited am I to have a craft beer store in Clayton? Overly, most people would say. Is it hard…read moreto find? It is if you're using GPS. (Check the note at the end for more details.) Does it have refrigerated beer? I'm sooooo happy. What about one with actual drafts that I would like to drink on tap? Even better. The downfall of most craft beer shops is that they just overload everything with what is on trend. I don't know what happened with IPAs, but all of a sudden they pimped IPAs everywhere. Even worse is the "balanced IPA". If the hops don't rip your tongue off, it's not an IPA. But I digress... Clayton Beverage Company has a really balanced selection of beers: Fruit, sour, IPA, lagers, specialty beers, whatever. I am happy to inform Allison that the Belgian selection has improved somewhat. A Kasteel Rouge for $5.99 an 11.5 oz. bottle is a bit much for my taste, but it's there. Where the Belgian Selection (or belgian style) selections really get going are in my pet category: Sours. And there are plenty to choose from. I walked out with a nice, cold bottle of Petrus Aged Pale and another sour that I'm not yet familiar with. Glassware is here, as well. Pints, snifters, any glassware that you care to take home is available at reasonable prices. Now to the pints on draft: I'd seen a Peanut Butter Stout on tap. And I tried it, and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, it's a keg only offering. Yet another thing I appreciate: Someone ordering a beer that isn't available via any other means. I should have asked for a growler. Maybe I still will. Prices are higher than they might be at a larger store, but well within reason considering that you don't have to drive to Raleigh or Durham for a better than average beer. WIth supermarkets shrinking their craft beer selections chain-wide, the bottle shop becomes a more viable and better alternative. I'll be back, thankful that I don't have to drive 15 minutes out of the way to get something decent to drink. Excellent selection and a great addition to Clayton as a community. 5* Notes: This is in the Bank of America section of Clayton Corners. GPS will keep you in a loop, coming in and going back out onto the highway. Go to Bank of America, take a right, and keep going till you reach the end. It's across from the building that holds the Tax Preparation Services.

If coffee isn't your thing via No Filter next door, take a few steps down and have a seat. Server Brandy was a delight. It was midday and I was in the mood for chicken fingers and pie. The fingers were okay but the standout was their house sauces. I had sweet potato crinkle fries. They were fantastic - especially with those sauces. The Key Lime Pie was soft, had bite, and a firm crust. It was delicious. The experience as a whole was okay - probably a winner in its "genre," but I'm not one for the bar scene. You might like it. It's dated and feels 2000's cozy. Service was great both times I came. Nothing to worry about there. They take really good care of you. They have a lot of specials and the menu is quite extensive. It's a bit off the beaten path hidden a few blocks away from 42 where it's not easily seen. It was decently busy so people know it's there, but if it was on 42 like where Cleveland Draft House is, this place would be packed out all the time. Both times I came here I got the wings because I heard the wings are good. They are a solid 8/10. The one and only thing that would push them over the top--smoked wings. Everything else was perfect. They were quite meaty, sauces are delicious, crispy skin...just need a bit of smoke that's all. Good thing they aren't because I'd be in here weekly if they ever did start smoking them. Buddy got the chicken fried steak and thought it was great. I posted some updated menu photos since there were none. I'll be back!
