How excited am I to have a craft beer store in Clayton? Overly, most people would say. Is it hard to find? It is if you're using GPS. (Check the note at the end for more details.) Does it have refrigerated beer? I'm sooooo happy. What about one with actual drafts that I would like to drink on tap? Even better. The downfall of most craft beer shops is that they just overload everything with what is on trend. I don't know what happened with IPAs, but all of a sudden they pimped IPAs everywhere. Even worse is the "balanced IPA". If the hops don't rip your tongue off, it's not an IPA. But I digress... Clayton Beverage Company has a really balanced selection of beers: Fruit, sour, IPA, lagers, specialty beers, whatever. I am happy to inform Allison that the Belgian selection has improved somewhat. A Kasteel Rouge for $5.99 an 11.5 oz. bottle is a bit much for my taste, but it's there. Where the Belgian Selection (or belgian style) selections really get going are in my pet category: Sours. And there are plenty to choose from. I walked out with a nice, cold bottle of Petrus Aged Pale and another sour that I'm not yet familiar with. Glassware is here, as well. Pints, snifters, any glassware that you care to take home is available at reasonable prices. Now to the pints on draft: I'd seen a Peanut Butter Stout on tap. And I tried it, and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, it's a keg only offering. Yet another thing I appreciate: Someone ordering a beer that isn't available via any other means. I should have asked for a growler. Maybe I still will. Prices are higher than they might be at a larger store, but well within reason considering that you don't have to drive to Raleigh or Durham for a better than average beer. WIth supermarkets shrinking their craft beer selections chain-wide, the bottle shop becomes a more viable and better alternative. I'll be back, thankful that I don't have to drive 15 minutes out of the way to get something decent to drink. Excellent selection and a great addition to Clayton as a community. 5* Notes: This is in the Bank of America section of Clayton Corners. GPS will keep you in a loop, coming in and going back out onto the highway. Go to Bank of America, take a right, and keep going till you reach the end. Over priced. Rude staff. Enter through a haze of cigarette smoke and marijuana. The place looks like a college frat room. Bars in double-wides have a better atmosphere than this poor excuse of a dump. Save your money and go the grocery store in the same shopping center where their selection is equal if not better, cheaper and the staff is better trained. And the bands? Get some decent variety. Not everyone wants to hear death metal. Such a shame Yelp requires a star rating. Zero stars if possible. read more

I cannot tell you how excited I am to be the first to review this shop, because I have been waiting so long for my little town to get it's first craft brew store. Clayton beverage does it right: neatly stocked shelves grouped by brewery, with a heavy focus on what people are drinking right now: ipa, porters, and stouts from solid breweries across the country. Despite the small space compared to the shops in Raleigh, there are great representations of what I consider some of the best breweries in America: Founders, Oskar Blues, Dogfish Head, and NC's Foothills, along with plenty of others to choose from. It's clear that both the owner and I gravitate towards Imperial Stouts. There are 4-6 taps, and thankfully a great variety. One of the few things I don't care for is how most craft shops do "theme taps" so I am stuck taking bottles to go if I'm not a fan of Christmas ale (and I'm not). There was also a terrific selection in the fridge, so I didn't have to rush home and stick a beer in the freezer. Ideally, you could meet friends here for a drink while you stuck your 4-pack for home in the fridge to chill while you chat. Despite being new, and a Thursday night, there was quite a good crowd in there, and as Clayton locals tend to be, everyone was open and outgoing without the slightest hint of hipster snobbery you see in most craft stores. It seems to be a one man show for now, which is fine because the owner, Steven, is super knowledgeable about beer, friendly, and eager to please. Whether you are an expert home brewer or just starting to venture into craft beer, I have no doubt he will steer you in the right direction. The only reason this is not a five is because I was missing the decent Belgian selection you find in other shops, but as CB grows I am sure the selection will adapt to what people are asking for. read more

Excellent shop in a really nice area of Clayton. Great selection of bottles and cans (mix a 6-pack) or buy what you want. 6 beers on draft to choose from in either are 16oz, 12oz or 8oz pour. Very knowledgable staff when it comes to Craft Beer, Cider and Meads. read more

This place isn't bad it just the owner/operator that's a problem. Very arrogant and condescending. Apparently he doesn't have the skills to speak to customers for reoccurring business. I went in one day and received bad service. Gave him another chance/second opinion on another trip thinking he may have had a bad day on my first trip but apparently he is like that all the time. He has no filter for what comes out of his mouth. The bottle shop is only a mile from my house but because of the 2 rude experiences that I had I will travel the 6 miles to his competitor that treats the customers well and have a BETTER experience. I would have rated this lower but it wouldn't let me write a review if I didn't at least put 1 star. Shop at your on risk. Very disappointing. Worst bottle shop experience ever. read more

Clayton Beverage is a great bottle shop with some amazing draft and bottle options. Not only is it a great place to buy beer, it is also a fun place to hang out and talk over a brew or two. They have started doing live acoustic music on Fridays, during the summer it's nice to sit out on the patio and hear some tunes. Steve strives to keep prices low and customers happy! read more

CBC is a cool alternative from regular beers and ales that you will find at the grocery store. Steve stocks some really rare titles and if you like it, you may want to buy some extra in case the brand sells out..He is also very knowledgeable about IPA's and beer in general..Sometimes after a good workout, I'll go over for a Hoppy protein shake lol... read more
