    a variety of craft beers
    Jillian S.

Small local beer shop and lounge. I was greeted upon arrival by the owner, other customers, and a customer's friendly dog. I was asked right away if I needed any assistance. I decided to peruse the shelves first. The shelving units on both sides of the shop offer a variety of local brews. In the middle of the shop are two couches. The customers drinking on the couches did not seem to have masks with them. I would be weary about sitting on the couches. The bar in the back offers additional seating and six beers on tap. Beside the bar is a refrigerator filled with chilled beer (seemed to be the same options as on the shelves). I did not feel comfortable drinking in the shop, due to lack a mask wearing, but I did purchase some local beer to take home. They have a good selection so I quickly found some dark beers I wanted to try. The owner offered recommendations when I asked. Local beer I know can be expensive, but $34 for 6 beers still seemed high to me. The receipt only showed the total amount, now how much each item cost. The shelves mark some of the prices but not all of them. Most of the beers with labeled prices were under $3 for a single can. I guess I chose more expensive options. They have a website and the owner mentioned that they are on Facebook and Instagram if you want to look up their options and events. I would return, but after COVID-19 cases decline.

Tapas tapas and more tapas! One better than the other. We did run into a huge problem though,…read moreexplained in more detail below. Wife and I started our quick little anniversary getaway here, and they nailed it. The place itself is gorgeous. Huge patio with greenery, baller bar area in the middle of the upscale open space, which gives a modern and chic vibe. That problem I mentioned? Deciding what we were going to order off of the amazingly stacked tapas menu. One sounded better than the other, plates coming out to the left and right of us...we were deer in headlights not knowing what to do, words didn't come out when our friendly and knowledgeable server came by. As far as problems go at a restaurant, I guess it could have been worse. With helpful guidance and knowing our love for anything foodie related, we just started picking one by one after a few sips of our well balanced cocktails (another large menu with anything and everything for fellow cocktail lovers out there). Had to go with a meat and charcuterie board first. A decadent manchego, a creamy French that was smooth and tangy, plus a 20 month cured ham that was salty and smoky. Honestly everything that came out after was a 10/10. From the wild mushrooms, Wagyu carpaccio and bone marrow, to the pork belly, corn bunuelos and steak paillard...everything was cooked to perfection with amazing spices and sauces that complemented each dish perfectly. (See pics and captions for more details) These chefs and mixologists know what they're doing here. 2 managers came by our table to make sure everything was going well. Top notch service, top shelf food and drink, modern and upscale decor and vibe. A perfect concoction for a special night out with family or friends.

I like Barcelona Wine Bar mainly because they are open late so you can have a nice meal after 9 pm…read more The bar is the highlight as they make good crafted cocktails and they do have an extensive wine list. The ambiance is dark and nice for couples or friends. The booths at the bar are not the most comfortable, so I prefer a table. The tapas are those you find at a traditional Spanish tapas place. The papas being amongst the most popular are a good staple. The charcuterie is also very nice. The other tapas can be hit or miss depending on what is seasonally offered. On this visit, I wanted Brussels sprouts but they were no longer on the menu and the lamb was not a bone in lamb but rather ground meatballs. Not bad, just not what I expected. It's not a place I seek out to come, but it's solid food and drinks that fills a need when I want a late bite.

There were several people in there for dinner service which was nice to see. The place is good for intimate dinners or a group of 6 could enjoy a meal too as we saw two such groups that night. They have a decent wine selection and a few cocktails. Prices for a glass are good with some as low as around $11/12. The quality of the food is good and portions are nice. I removed one star because them main dish portion of the menu is small/limited. I would like to see a few more options here to choose from. I started with the cheese plate. It was delish and the warm bread with it made it perfect. I then had the sliders which is an entree as my meal. The beef tasted good and fresh. The fries were a bit cold upon arrival but still decent. The person with me had the skirt steak and enjoyed it. We will certainly be back again.

The North Hills spot ( 4421 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, beside Total Wine) feels settled in the best way. Comfortable, Welcoming, Cozy. We started slowly. A wine flight. Truffle fries with truffle aioli, parmesan, oregano. Marinated olives layered with citrus and herbs. Nothing too over the top, but generous and satisfying. The kinds of plates you keep reaching for without realizing it. For dinner, we had the the NY Strip (North Carolina pasture-raised Angus with Diane sauce and a French onion potato gratin). And the roasted whole fish (with hazelnut gremolata, citrus beurre blanc, and confit sunchoke). Both cooked to perfection, nothing missing, and absolutely delicious. The business was clean and there is also a bar inside. The restaurant has a large selection of wines and offers flights for purchase. The restaurant had some people dining in but they were not overly packed. Initially our server was pleasant and attentive. I got a blood orange sparkling water. It was ok. I ordered the whipped ricotta for an appetizer to share and a burger with fries for my entree. The whipped ricotta was ok. It would taste better with some sort of seasoning in it. My fries were served hot but needed some salt. I asked for my burger to be cooked well done but I was brought a burnt burger. I took one bite but it was too overcooked. I then requested that my server have my burger be cooked medium well so I didn't get another burnt burger. When my burger was brought back out, our server had me cut into my burger to make sure it was to my liking. The preparation was better but it was bland and tasted like there wasn't any seasoning on it. After this our server wasn't as attentive anymore. For dessert we got the donuts. They were served warm and I enjoyed them with the cherry sauce. I did not like the chocolate sauce that was served with the donuts.

I wanted to do this but our eyes caught more, the walls, the other cozy table and chairs, the bar like set up to get your coffee, tea, refreshers, or simply eat there. Along the wall by the cashier, they offer to go treats, dark chocolate bars, beef jerky's, cheese bites, high end chips... the pastry display will soon be packed with other goodies that they get delivered. Right now, they have muffins, lemon bars. I also saw a deli meat since they will be serving charcuterie too. By the back door to the patio, they sell bottled drink of all sorts, some I've never seen. We bought a refresher and a chocolate bar that I thought were delicious. The chocolate is of high quality and will bring you satisfaction. The wine area, located to the right side can be closed off for private events or other events. They will offer wine tasting, bottle that you can purchase whether cold or room temp. Once the area is fully finished and stocked, this will be a beautiful spot. The bathrooms are gorgeous and spacious. You will need to check it out for yourself. Lastly, the owners are so nice. I've never met them before but she is the warmest being. She gave us a tour, explained to us how they operate and that soon she will be posting events located above the building where you can enter at the door with an awning 2a. Also, soon, if you are seating outside in the back, you can tap at the small window to order a drink. How convenient is that? Right now, please be patient as they still work out all the kinks to perfect their spot. It is a nice place to go while we wait for our children doing sports near by.
