    Quartz ramen with pork chashu
    Raven R.

Came here for dinner as part of the OC Restaurant Week festivities. It was a rainy day so a steaming bowl of ramen was exactly what I needed. The staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. The place was clean and well-maintained. They had a dinner deal for 25$ which got you a choice of appetizer (chicken karaage or gyoza) and a bowl of ramen. I opted to start with the chicken karaage and got their Quartz ramen for my main dish. Chicken Karaage- The portion was generous for what is supposed to be a small serving. The chicken pieces were served fresh from the fryer. The breading was flavorful and crispy while the interior was soft and juicy. It came with a spicy mayo dipping sauce that gave it a little kick. Quartz Ramen- The base broth is creamy and comforting. It typically comes with chicken chashu but they kindly accommodated my request to substitute it to pork. The meat was tender and practically melted in the mouth. Roasted garlic chips, soft boiled egg, and broccolini gave a depth of flavor and texture to tie the dish together. Wonderful experience overall!

Likes: + The ramen is pretty enjoyable. Nothing special though. + Polite, helpful staff. + Plenty of indoor and outdoor open tables. + Ample parking on both sides. + Pleasant ambience and decor. Non-likes: - Small portion size. Despite ordering extra meat, I still needed to eat more food. - The pork chashu has little to no fat. - Exorbitant. My total here could come out to almost $30 and I'd still be hungry. - A ramen order only comes with only 2-3 slices of grilled pork. At almost $20 I would like 4-5 slices. - The ramen noodles are a little hard. - Not a wide range of healthy yummy drinks. Mostly generic high-sugar soda. - Extra $5 to order on 3rd-party apps (UE or DD). I had: $17.50 AMBER + $4 extra pork chashu + tax = $23.17

OVERALL : We grabbed ramen here on a cold rainy afternoon after spending some time at The District in Tustin. This spot specializes in 100% plant based broths using ingredients such as shiitake mushrooms, dashi, carrots, ginger, etc. to produce a flavorful broth. They have a small focused ramen menu, along with some appetizers, sushi, and rice bowls. Service was quick and straightforward, and the store was clean! We didn't have any wait when we visited on a Sat later into the afternoon. PARKING : Located in the Tustin District! Park in the large shared parking lot that surrounds the entire shopping plaza and walk into the shopping area! FOOD/DRINKS : Garnet Ramen (Miso) - vegetable broth, sesame paste, grilled pork, seasoned veggies, green onion, seasoned egg, fried onion, thick noodles -- I enjoyed that the broth was plant based yet still creamy and flavorful. I didn't feel overly full / heavy afterwards, probably due to the vegetable aspect of the broth (less fatty!). It's nice to see that they offer vegan substitutions as well as subs between chicken and pork chasu too! The noodles were cooked well and not too soft, and I enjoyed the toppings included in the bowl. The pork (chasu) was not as tender as I would have wanted it to be, but I'm willing to give it another try and see if it was just that day!

Came here for my birthday lunch with my coworkers. Located at the District, parking was easy to find by the theater. We all ordered ramen, and it was pretty good. I wasn't expecting the broth to be good because the broth is vegetable based. I was surprised... it was rich and flavorful. Along with ramen, I ordered the 2-piece salmon and it was yummy. We also ordered the spicy cucumber and that was delish. Service was great. As soon as we were seated, they took our orders right away, and the food came out hot and timely. I'd come here again! Tip: Good value for the kids meal which comes with a side of fries, karage or gyoza for $10! Oh, and check in on Yelp and get a free soda!

Definite improvements that need be made. Went here on a Friday evening at the recommendation of a friend and was promptly seated. I like that this establishment offers a wide variety of vegetarian options to cater to different dietary needs. The restaurant is new, so the decor is modern with patio seating available. Went with the chicken kaarage and mazemen. Both were disappointing. The chicken was not fully cooked through and the mazemen was somehow overly salty without much additional flavor. I do appreciate the staff making a new order of kaarage after bringing this to their attention. The kitchen seemed disorganized as it took awhile for the food to arrive and the kitchen staff had started serving the food orders to keep up. Not sure if this was an understaffing issue or lack of training. Possibly both. My experience left much to be desired and I don't see myself coming here again.

I had a great experience at Rakkan Ramen! I got the chicken karaage to start and it came with a delcious sauce. The spicy quartz was perfectly spicy with a ton of fried garlic and a decent amount of protein.

Karaage appetizer (missing the salad greens?). Small size had five pieces of dark-meat karaage. Delicious!

Ordered the Pearl ramen. The noodles were good but clumped together upon serving, not sure if that's normal or not. The half-egg was so soft and yummy but served quite cold, not sure if that's also normal here. There were a few pieces of firm onion skin in my bowl that tasted like super bitter paper, so I had to take those out. Broth was a glassy-looking brownish hue with a light soy sauce flavor. You can taste the "veggie-ness" of the broth, too. Not as savory or salty as I would've liked, but it was still an enjoyable bowl of ramen. They forgot the broccolini in my friend's Quartz ramen and the salad greens in our karaage appetizer, maybe they ran out of them or were rushing due to the nearing closing time? They took us in at 8:30pm after we waited for a while and looked over the menu (they closed at 9:30pm that Thursday night). Seemed to be very short-staffed that night, but even though it took a while for us to get seated when it wasn't busy at all, our food came out pretty quickly. I honestly don't know if I'd return for the ramen, but I did like the karaage. We got the small size, which came with five sizeable pieces of dark meat, and everyone liked that the most. Maybe I'll get the karaage bowl or poke bowl next time.

Located in the District at Tustin Legacy, this is a perfect place to have Japanese ramen especially on a rainy day. The day I visited was quite chilly so I had to eat something that will not only warm my body but also heart. When I was about to enter the building, one couple came out and told me that they really enjoyed their meal that they recommend me trying any of their dishes, which I appreciated their opinion. The restaurant has a clean, chic and modern look with wooden chairs and tables, which gave that comfortable and warm Japanese ramen place vibe in Japan. The server was helpful explaining the difference of each ramen and she brought the food quickly one by one. Spicy Garnet broth was savory, thick and rich with right amount of spiciness and the fried garlic slices were bonus that enhanced the flavor. The noodles, chashu and the seasoned egg was tender and tasty that went well with the broth. I also enjoyed the fresh seared salmon sushi and crunchy chicken karaage very much since it was great with the noodle soup.

The first thing I have to start by saying is the service offered by Rachel S. was phenomenal. I need to do my best to avoid gluten and she really took her time to try and help me decide what the best choice would be. I do not have celiac disease but I have to still be careful, the ramen will be cross contaminated but I'm not affected like others are. It was so pleasant to have the great service and the ramen was absolutely delicious! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!

Usually don't leave bad reviews. My group and I agreed this may be the worst ramen we've had and this experience is a bonding experience for us. The portion is small, expensive, soup was ok, but the worst was the ramen noodles. It was undercooked, like floury. Imagine playdough. We were all taken aback. What the hell? How did this happen?

Such a great place to get vegetarian based broths for your ramen! The garnet is a miso based broth and it is my favorite one, super flavorful, the pork and egg are always great too. I pre ordered it and it was ready to go in no time. The staff was super nice and quick when I came to pick it up. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and airy, lots of tables to sit at, windows make it bright. I order from this place all the time and I really think it's one of the best ramen spots around.

I stopped by RAKKAN Ramen at The District in Tustin on a Thursday afternoon and had a fantastic experience! No wait time, which was a plus. I ordered the Garnet Ramen with added shrimp, along with the chicken and pork buns. The ramen was packed with layers of rich, savory flavor. The egg was perfectly cooked, the portion of noodles was generous, and there was a solid amount of meat, very filling overall. The buns were a standout as well. Sadly I forgot to take a picture. Super soft and airy with a delicious, well seasoned meat filling that was cooked to perfection. The interior of the restaurant was very clean, and the hostess was kind and welcoming, which made the visit even better. I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Stopped by for a quick bite before heading in for our candle making class next door. Wasn't expecting much at all and was simply trying to take in some calories so I don't pass out during the class. But wow absolutely impressive ramen I have had ever. The dish I ordered was the spicy cream quartz which was a vegetable broth with chicken. Most of the other pork based broths are a bit salty for my palate and the shrimp based broth I've tried recently was the same salty flavor. The vegetable broth seems to be the base for most of their ramen sold here and boy it is perfect. Don't really know how to explain it but please just try it if you're in the mood for some ramen. In my humble opinion, the vegetable broth sold here should be the new base for all ramens.

It's a pretty small restaurant with about 12-14 tables with a small bar seating fitting about 8 people. We waited about 15 mins and was seated in the inside. While waiting, there were chairs and a table outside with a couple menus for us to look at ahead so we were ready to order by the time we were seated. Menus and a carafe of iced water was brought out immediately. We asked to order right away as my boys and their friends were hungry and we were in between hockey games for a tournament. There's good lunch deal to add house rolls for $4.95 more or a specialty roll for $7.95 to any ramen We ordered the following; 1. Tonkotsu ramen w/ house salmon roll: I tasted the broth for this. Its a light creamy and flavorful broth. Not salty. 2. Spicy Tonkotsu x 2 w/ house salmon rolls: I tasted the broth for this and it's spicier than the usual spicy tonkatsu I eat in San Jose. Perfect for my spicy preference. One of the 13yo drank the entire bowl of broth and the other 2 almost finished their broth. 3. Habanero Miso w/ Angry Tail: This was hubby's. The broth is very good but it's too spicy for me to enjoy it. 4. Black Ramen: This bowl was for me. I really like this broth flavor alot but wish it was spicy like the spicy tonkatusu. Overall, all the broths were very rich and well flavored, not salty. The noodles were cooked just right, firm.with a nice crunch when you bite into it. The amount of bean sprouts and wood ear mushrooms was just right. The half soft boil egg was perfect but the 3 slices of char xiu pork could taste better. It was bland and was not soft enough as it did not easily break when you bite into it. As for the sushi rolls, It was pretty decent for the price you are paying to add to your ramen order. The service was good as there was only 2 staff running the floor. They were quick to assist us with more water and napkins. We will definitely return in the future if we are in town and craving ramen/sushi combo.

HiroNori being one of them. Parking is limited in the front lot, while additional parking can be found adjacent to the restaurant immediately behind another building. I was happy to see that you can add yourself to their Yelp waitlist accessible inside the restaurant. There was a little area to wait inside and outside their establishment. I enjoyed the aesthetics of the space. To me, it felt like an outdoor night market, with simple concrete that was also used as a bench if you had the tables against the wall. Up above looked like either linen or burlap cloth that draped off the ceiling with some paper lantern lights. Modern chairs and hooks for purses under the tables. The menu is simple and not overly complicated. The wait staff was great. They were prompt, nice, patient and very attentive. What we ordered; 1) Tonkatsu Ramen - 5/5 stars. The broth was so tasty and really hit the spot. It came with chashu pork, green onions, bean sprouts, egg, spinach and seaweed. 2) Shoyu Ramen - 5/5 stars. I typically find that this broth isn't as flavorful, however, the shoyu ramen at HiroNori Craft Ramen, is well seasoned and the flavor was better than I expected and had in comparison to other places who offer this same meal. The shoyu came with chashu pork, green onions, spinach, kaiware sprouts, bamboo and an egg. 3) Spicy Cold Dipping Noodle - 5/5 stars. I recently ordered this at an event and loved it so much that I had to order another one to go when I came back. I didn't take photos of this one during my return because I did not want this review getting taken down and getting mistaken for the food I received at the event. This meal was very generous at least for me. It was served with chashu pork, spinach, sprouts, bamboo, and egg. The dipping sauce was in a separate bowl with ice to keep it cold, was made with a dashi broth and chili oil. Due to my excitement at the event, I did not notice until my second time, that this broth has a very slight numbing pepper...or at least it tasted like it. For me, it was mild. I do have a high spice tolerance so it was easy for me to miss. I noticed it mostly by the scent. 4) Salmon Poke Bowl (large) - I did not get to try this one. I can't speak to the flavor but I did taste the salad that you can eat with or separately from the poke bowl itself. The dressing was delicious! The large size gets you two scoops and you can see that under the avocado in my photo. The rice was super generous which might have been a bit much, but better to have enough than not. FYI, there is a 17% automatic gratuity or surcharge to your tab BUT you don't have to add tip. The price on your check is the price you pay. Not bad, just fyi. Overall, I was very happy with my experience at this restaurant. Great food made for a very pleasant dinner. Thank you.

This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic.
