After several years away, my wife and I just dined at Raindancer twice last week. Our first lunch meal was excellent with quality food, service, and setting. But I am writing because the second visit and entree offering was horrible and am hoping the restaurant management reads this and adjusts the recipe. The order was shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. I realize that some restaurants offer imitation crabmeat and indeed this was the worse form of that. My shrimp stuffing had long pasta like filaments which I assume is the imitation crabmeat but was not even fish like. There was no taste of crabmeat, real or artificial. This recipe should be an embarassment for this eatery which otherwise offers a moderate to upscale setting. read more

We came here for Thanksgiving dinner and had the best food along with the best service. Cheryl was our waitress which made the experience even more pleasurable. Coming from someone who used to be in the industry, she gets 5 stars from me! We ordered the jumbo shrimp as an app, that were bigger than I've seen in quite some time. Drove an hour to meet my sister for a holiday dinner here the other night. We made a reservation, and were seated at a table in the bar. I kind of liked the table, as it was quiet and not really surrounded by other tables. Our waiter was very friendly, but not all that efficient. He suggested some things on the menu but when asked about other items he just said he did not like seafood so he would not suggest the items. I waited a fair amount of time for my glass of wine, which I did not order when the others ordered drinks because I was waiting to match the wine with my dinner. The food was ok, not wonderful, but ok. My sister ordered coffee after dinner, the first cup came ok, but when she asked for a refill, she actually had to ask 3 times before he brought out her refill. I would have just skipped it, but she made a point of having to have it because it took so long to get it. Given that they live in the area, and we had the hour drive home, I found his delay a bit more than I liked! read more

Went to the Raindancer last night with a few friends. Reservation was at 6:30. We were seated right on time got our drinks and orders in by 6:45 or so. Got our appetizers quickly but didn't get our meal for over an hour after. One of our friends brought their young daughter and not once were we told it would be right out or any explanation of why it was taking so long. They at least could have brought our friends daughter her meal. The food was good when it finally came out. read more

Service was attentive and good. Our party of 5 was seated right away. Calamari was ordered as an appetizer. Tasted fresh and was cooked properly. They need to change the oil. Calamari was darker than normal. Hot Roast beef sandwich was good, special of the day, a bourbon chicken dish was good. Chicken Cordon Blue was good except for the maple glaze on it. Prime rib was fatty. Hot Turkey was ok. The prices were high. Prime rib was $29. Special $20 and the Cordon Blue was $20 too. Overall, average food that is over priced. read more

First time at Raindancer's - suggested by a coworker! It was very good - anyone looking for a GREAT early bird special - come before 6pm. We had 4 in our party - one person ordered one of the Early Bird Specials - Chicken Parmesan, others ordered BBQ Ribs (which was a HUGE Portion), another order the 2 9oz. lobster tails and I ordered the Fisherman's Platter. All came with a really nice salad bar (or served Caesar Salad) and fresh baked bread. All entrees were really good, service was excellent and we all went home with Doggy Bags! Definitely try this place ... we made reservations on a Saturday night but you don't really need one - the place holds alot of people! read more

This is nice restaurant but to me is overpriced. The meals are decent but for the prices they don't meet the cut. The atmosphere is wonderful and each time the staff has been well delightful. For my meal I had the steak with a side of mashed potatoes which was delicious and cooked precisely to my liking. This place was terrible! Have a house up north past Amsterdam stopped by earlier today with family. We ordered at 4:50pm got our food at 6pm. Totally ridiculous service. Menu selection wasn't creative. Overpriced to the max! There salad bar was OK. When we complained the food was taking to long after waiting for 45 minutes our waitress ignored us the rest of the twenty minutes even though I asked for a water. We were ready to walk out that's how bad the service was and there was nobody thereeeee! The food was OK I had the steak terikyi it wasn't to bad but my boyfriends burger was like a hockey puck. Atmosphere is great. There are better places to sit depending on your mood. For a cozier, quieter, romantic dinner it's best sit on the back side. There is a large open room in the front that is a bit noisier. The food is usually very good as is the service. I never had a problem with the service. We went there because we had the seafood casserole in the past and remembered how good it was. This time upon receiving the order I was very disappointed. The menu lists this dish as, baby scallops, shrimp and crab in a sauce topped with a cheese blend. What we ate was a dish that was baby salad shrimp, a few baby scallops and the rest imitation crab (pollack) all under at least a half inch of cheese. Mind you the flavor was good, but twenty bucks for a mound of imitation crab under a mountain of cheese! That's almost criminal in my opinion. The salad bar was so-so. It was more quantity over quality. The prices on the menu were outrageous. The food I saw coming from the kitchen all looked like it needed better presentation. Ashamed to say that we nearly gave in to the negative reviews here. Glad we didn't. Our dinners were excellent and Katrina, our server, was outstanding. Had to try their chili because I just can't not try anybody's chili. Theirs' easily hangs with some of the best I've had. Our Caesar salads were excellent. I prefer mine not quite as wet with dressing but that's just me and it tasted great anyway. My very generous blackened salmon dish was nothing less than superb. Didn't finish the asparagus or my rice side but that's the chili's fault. Just too full by then, is all. My wife said her Spring Chicken dish was outstanding. Hoping to personally verify tomorrow at lunch time. She brought a nice portion home. Didn't do it today but the dessert menu looks good. The only reason this is not a 5 STAR review is because of the narrow handicapped parking spots. They should be a bit wider to more easily accommodate a wheelchair and at least one of them should be wide enough to easily accommodate a side lift on a van. Fortunately, we still had enough room between our car and the one beside us when we came out. Please ignore the majority of the naysayers here, folks. In my humble opinion, anyone with a legitimate complaint should be willing and able to explain better than most of them here. Too many of them are just a few lines with no details. Besides that, the parking lot was nearly full when we pulled in .... on a Wednesday night. They gotta be doing something right, huh? NOTE: I gave it $$ but we didn't get too spendy tonight. I was visiting from out of town for a family funeral and it was suggested that we stop at this restaurant. Even though it was lunch time, there was no lunch menu or flyer. The waitress announced to us the "specials" with no mention of the prices. When asked about a "lunch menu", she became annoyed that I had interrupted her and told me that these WERE the lunch specials. Otherwise, the food was very good, I must say, and another family member picked up the check. I guess I will never know the prices of specials. read more

We've been here a few times now. I usually go with my family. The food is okay, but not consistent. The last time I went I was disappointed. My son's pasta was overcooked. My husband ordered a medium rare steak. The bottom was medium and the top was rare - there was actually a line in the middle where you could see it wasn't evenly cooked.My daughter ordered a medium steak and it was very rare. I ordered the steak teriyaki because last time my husband ordered it and I couldn't stop stealing bites. It was served over pilaf and I was told it would be rice. My mushrooms were burned and the pilaf was inedible. The pieces of steak were all different sizes and differently cooked. The salad bar was good and fresh. As far as service our waitress was nice, but just a little inattentive. We had to ask for drink refills, that kind of thing. All this said the trip before this was great. For a family of five we spent approximately 185 (including tip.) I think for the amount of money I'm spending on a steak I'll go to the Barn Sider in Albany where he food and service always excellent. read more

The large and small Filets were tasteless, and the sweet potato Salmon was a "not so good". The only successful meal was the fisherman platter which was a "good". The place itself was very nice.... But..... When we ordered a rack of rounds out came within 5 minutes..... Pretty fast.... When my fiance are it, it was cold. We sent it back and when it returned we were warmed to be careful because the plate was hot. That tells me they may cook ahead and warm them in the microwave. Not good. I frequent this restaurant. The food is always good and the service is generally quite good as well. Like any other restaurant you may experience a staff member that is having a bad day and is a little off their game or may be a bit fatigued toward the end of their shift. But over all the food is good, wait staff is friendly and usually attentive. I keep going back and I recommend that others do as well. read more
