I booked a cut & colour at Rainbow Room and was clear in explaining that the only reason I wanted colour was to cover up some grey on the side of my head near my temples - I was fine with the rest of my hair colour. The person I spoke to said she didn't know how they would do this and I would have to consult with the stylist when I came in. She said she would book me in for foils just in case that's what was decided. The next day it occurred to me that I might be taking up too much time with a foils appointment that wasn't necessary - so I called again and explained the situation, this time to someone else. She assured me all they needed to do was touch up the roots with colour, and it would be simple - no foils required. However, she didn't change the appointment type and when it came down to it, I sat for nearly an hour with the colour setting (which should have taken 30 minutes tops), watching the stylist cut another client's hair. She didn't explain the extra wait proactively, and I had to ask how much longer it would be. When she was done and I told her I'd never experienced a stylist anywhere taking an entire appointment while I waited needlessly, she told me that since my appointment was for foils which takes longer, and she didn't know I wouldn't be needing them, she got booked in for another cut. She also said nobody told her my situation (as I'd explained on the phone twice). She did a nice job on the cut and colour- minus the sloppiness of leaving dye all over my hairline and forehead- but basically, her attitude was 'don't shoot the messenger' rather than trying to make the situation/process better for me or future clients. Why weren't notes made on the file and passed on to the stylist ahead of time? It was decided that foils weren't necessary, so why wasn't the appointment type changed given that it required more time than standard root touchups? These gaps in your process just scream poor management and hassle to me, so I won't be back. read more

Being new to the Coast, have been looking for a new hairdresser and very happy to say I have found her. My friend and I decided to try the Rainbow Room as I had a gift card from the Welcome Wagon. We both had colours and cuts and both of us were extremely happy with the final product. Her stylist was Megan and mine was Mary. As someone commented, maybe not the tidiest salon but it was busy and most importantly, all the staff was very friendly, welcoming and made you feel that they appreciate your business. We have already booked our next appointments. read more

I booked an appointment online and was glad to get in last minute for a quick trim. I've been here once before for colour with Liz and paid about $300 for a colour correction, wash, style and double toning. The process took well over 2 hours and I found that cost to be reasonable for the service received. Liz was also very pleasant. Unfortunately, Liz was not available on the day I wanted to get my trim. I arrived on time with freshly washed and blow dried hair, which I had advised prior to the appointment in a written note online. I waited about 10 minutes while the stylist was finishing foils on another client, then was sat in the chair. A couple of minutes of discussion, then a quick dry trim of my shoulder length hair took less than 10 minutes. I don't have much hair, and there was no washing, blow drying, styling and no products used at all. I was happy with the trim, but the cost of $85 was shocking for the time spent in the chair, and the light nature of the service. I paid without complaint thinking that the Sunshine Coast pricing was to blame. I've paid the same price for haircuts that included all the bells and whistles, head massage, shampoo, condition, blow-dry and curl, plus a cup of tea, etc. After talking to a number of my girlfriends who have been local for many years about what was done and the amount of time it took, they were all surprised I was charged that much. Live and learn, but unlikely to return to this particular salon since there are so many others I haven't been to yet. I'm giving 3 stars because the trim itself was fine, but being such a light trim (more like a dusting), it would've been hard to get it wrong. One star for the products they carry (good selection), one star for the online booking system which worked well, and one star for the location with easy/free parking. read more

After a coworker arrived one morning with fabulous new hair color, I asked her who did her hair. She referred me to Megan and I booked my appointment. The salon wasn't squeaky clean looking, but the stylists were super busy. Megan evaluated my hair, asked appropriate questions, then coloured my hair as requested. After a few weeks I realized it wasn't precisely what I wanted so I returned. Megan spent time asking more relevant questions and made a recommendation which I agreed to. Am I ever glad I did! She totally nailed the look I was hoping for and I'm thrilled at the results, both the color and the cut. I highly recommend Megan at The Rainbow Room. She is fantastic. read more

My fiancé and I went on a retreat in Sechelt over the weekend, and we were overdue to have our shellac done. We decided it would be a relaxing way to spend the afternoon. We went to the rainbow room to see if they had any space for two pedicures, and two shellac manicures. I had some anticipation about paying $175(plus tip) for the services, but I assumed we would be getting a salon style manicure and pedicure. Both of the girls working on our nails were very nice, but the did not have to skills to pull off a salon manicure or pedicure.. Or honestly a shellac manicure that I would pay anyone for. The girl doing my fiance's nails was still in beauty school, while the girl doing my nails had not even been to beauty school. Our shellac and nail polish wasn't even covering our nails, and the toe nail polish was thick and uneven. They didn't even clip our cuticles on our hands. It was very disappointing. But the most disappointing part was that all of the girls working came and looked at our nails, including the manager and didn't do anything to correct the mistakes. We are both pretty disappointed with the outcome of the services, it would have been nice if someone would have come over helped when they saw what our nails looked like. Do not use this salon for shellac, unless you are sure to be with someone trained in the skill. read more

I got my wedding hair and make up done here. I had an image in my head but couldn't really express myself and the photos I supplied didn't help my cause. That being said I got my trial done found more pictures and emailed Vanessa with details. She did exactly what I wanted and I looked great despite muggy rain and me running around before the wedding took place ( it was sunny for the ceremony/yeah!) I wish she was in my town because she tamed my frizzy mop even in humid weather. She also explains tips and tricks of the trade while she does your hair. Thanks again Vanessa you saved the day! read more

Highly recommend rainbow room. Quality services, always feel satisfied. Never have to worry about a bad cut or color. Knowledgeable staff with great personalities. Friendly atmosphere and always greeted with a smile as you walk in the door, not left standing around wondering if they even notice you're there. On time and accommodating. read more

Just to warn you this place charges top dollar for a beginners job! I wouldn't waste my money here again. Beware!

this is my first review and im only doing so because im actually shocked by what i witnessed from the OWNER of this salon. If it wasnt for over hearing what i did. Let me start by saying this review does not reflect the stylist i was recommended nor does it have anything to do with the amazing job she did on my hair, or how truly sweet and she really just lets her work speak for itself through mouths of the many others shes pleased with her work consistantly. When i recently moved to the Coast, i used facebook looking for recommendations for a great stylist who can cut & color and who could ideally be available for my daughters upcoming wedding. It was a no-brainer that many, and i mean MANY women tagged Jenny at Rainbow Room. Clearly i had to see what all the fuss was about and I came across a link to her portfolio. Right away i was impressed and once i saw her album with Up Do's and Lash Extensions, I knew i had to see her. I was told to specifically request her otherwise I would be asked to book with someone else. I guess Jenny rents her chair so the rules are a bit different. Anyways i walked into my appointment about 10 mins early and she greeted me and asked me to have a seat while she finished up. Upon waiting i checked out the waiting area and all the products, I saw a tech doing some nails on what i assumed was a friend or at least a regular client. She didnt seem to care if anyone else heard their conversation but it seemed like it was all gossip and what blows my mind was that she basicall 'shit talked" a few of her other clients as well as fellow and or passed employees. Blatenly talking about how she couldnt even believe that said stylist actually felt that her work was remotely close to good or basically that nothing else compares to how good her work is and how shes constantly booked especially with nails because everyone else sucks! she won awards i guess. To then find out this girl was the owner of the salon caught me off guard as she seemed very young, and was acting like one of those "mean girls" from highschool. after being there for a couple hours i witnessed how she treated other employees and even customers after they left. it was very unprofessional and if i wasnt so happy with jenny i would never go there again. i hope she reads this and maybe thinks about how she talks when shes representing a business. other than that it was clean and prices were fairly reasonable but personally i dont think its a popularity contest and you should be up-lifting and confident enough in your abilities without feeling the need to be "better" than someone else. Id hate to be loyal to my nail girl who i pay well and likely tip too, only to find out down the road that she made fun of my with her friend right after i left. I maybe be a bit older than you girls but i believe thats FAKE, and i dont care how good u may be id rather see someone else who is genuwine. We dont have to be friends but id rather just receive a service and keep chatting to professional rather than catty. I hope this makes it to the ones who can benefit from some truth. it really goes for everyone really.. JUST BE NICE.how hard is that? read more

I bleached part of my own hair and messed up so they tried fixing it. 3 hours of bleaching and then they put elumen over top. I got the wrong colour on top. Asked for pastel pink and wound up with highlighter pink. So they put purple over top of that as to not damage my hair further. Completely uneven. I had big spots where the colour didn't stick at all. They left me with my hair much worse off. I had someone fix it and it was even but it's so damaged from how long Rainbow room bleached it that colour just won't hold the same on big sections. Would not recommend. My hair is breaking and they wouldn't even give me my money back after what they did. The owner of the store just said they "weren't magicians." They also got hair dye all over my shirts when washing my colour out. So they ruined two shirts. I also now have to pay to get my hair done every 2 months instead of 4. This place is a joke. read more
