Small place, always full, and great food. Staff is constantly checking on you and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. Simply our favorite in the area. Try the General Tso's - You won't regret it! read more

Well we just left this place. Very disappointed. The chicken was very tough for the General Chao Chicken. The sauce had too much vinegar in it and the chicken fried rice it came with was over cooked to being mushy. Wife had Orange chicken. It too was tough. The white rice was very good as were the egg rolls and wanton soup. Service was slow in getting our bill. Where is Tommy?? read more

Our very favorite Chinese restaurant since they opened. Owners are great people and the staff is top notch

I visited Rainbow Restaurant for the first time after the original restaurant I wanted to go to was closed. My daughter and I split the beef broccoli, and each got a wonton soup and vegetable egg roll. The wonton soup was very flavorful, the wontons soft and generously filled, and the crackers crispy and fresh. The egg roll unfortunately was very oily, but the beef broccoli made up for it. The portion was definitely big enough to split with leftovers and for the entire meal, including a pop we only paid $25.00 before tip. I felt the service was very underwhelming, but the restaurant itself was very clean with lots of seating. read more

I decided to bring my wife and two kids here to dine in for the first time, as we've usually ordered carryout from this restaurant. Unfortunately, after this experience, we won't be returning. From the moment we arrived, we didn't feel particularly welcomed. Other parties who arrived after us seemed to receive much more attentive service, while we waited an extremely long time for our food. The wait became so excessive that my kids were crying because they were hungry. We watched several tables that arrived after us receive their food, eat, and even pay before our food ever came out. Eventually, I had to flag down our waitress and ask about our order. Her response, "What do you want?" came across as extremely rude and unprofessional. After I asked if our food would be coming out soon, she went to the back, and amazingly, our food came out about a minute later. The entire experience left us feeling like families with young children simply aren't a priority here. I also want to mention that giving full-size, uncovered adult drink cups to toddlers is not exactly ideal. A family-friendly restaurant should be more mindful of situations like that. We've enjoyed the convenience of ordering carryout in the past, but after this experience, we'll be taking our business elsewhere for Chinese food. It's unfortunate, because we really wanted to enjoy dining here as a family. read more

Rainbow Restaurant - Sweet and sour chicken - Chinese Near Me - Farmington, Michigan

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. A totally enjoyable experience! The service is top notch! They have been in business for a long time and with good reason. They provide great food, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere, nice people and did I say, fantastic food? That deserves emphasizing! I just love the flavors, the tender chicken, the savory soups and the best spring rolls! The lomein here is just the best as well. I also so enjoy their soups! Rainbow is the spot for Chinese cuisine in the area! They really deliver! read more

Has ownership changed?? I've been going here 15 years and today was the 1st negative experience I've had. I wanted to order a carry out, one young lady was helping me, then another one stepped in and told her to stop taking my order and wait on the guest next to me who arrived after me. She continued to tell me to wait a minute, by then I'm really confused and PO due to being on a time constraint. Finally, received my carry out, the food just wasn't hitting like usual, and my egg roll had large pieces of meat in it, never noticed that before... read more

Solid selection of traditional Chinese dishes! We often get carry out but tonight we dined in, the service was good, the staff was friendly and the food had great flavor! We started with the spare ribs and wonton soup both were delicious, especially the ribs! Then we got lettuce wraps and Szechuan chicken all the food was good we will be back! read more

We have been patrons of Rainbow for several years only for takeout, which has been pretty good. Yesterday we got the pepper steak. I don't know where the steak was. It was more like mush in a heavy salty sauce with a few green peppers and onions thrown in I will not order it again, so disappointed... read more

Rainbow Chinese was recommended to me by friends I was hanging out with close to the area. I decided to drive out 15 minutes out of my way to go to the restaurant based on their recommendation. I was sorely disappointed in my meal. They were very crowded on a early Saturday evening. I recommend allotting extra wait time whether you're dining in or carrying out. Judging the crowd size I was really excited, anticipating delicious food. However, my food was not great at all. It was subpar as a matter of fact. I ordered a honey chicken combination plate. The egg roll was the only thing that I could see going back for. It had lots cabbage and was very crispy, but lacked any seasoning. Salt made it better. The fried rice was bland there was nothing in it, but just a few bits of chicken. Not even enough chicken, where you could call it chicken fried rice. It seemed as if a few pieces of chicken just happen to have fallen over into the rice. There were no sprouts or egg or onion as with usual Chinese restaurants. The honey chicken entree was disappointing. The chicken was very tough and was not fried to golden brown, it was beige and pasty. The lemon sauce had a strong lemony taste, but yet wasn't flavorful. Nothing I had was seasoned or even salted. Perhaps the food lacks seasoning due to their clientele. I did appreciate the customer service. One woman was cashing out customers while also taking phone orders--and did an outstanding job, getting people in and out. I paid eighteen dollar for what I thought would be dinner and also lunch the next day if I liked the food. There was enough for 3. Parking is a shared lot. read more

I'm finding this restaurant to be average . The portions are generous but the quality of food is just mediocre. We just ordered a carry out so I don't know how good the service is if you choose to eat there. Out of the 5 times we ordered the food from there, the best item was the egg rolls. Very crunchy, with tasty stuffing. The checkout process could be a little nicer. read more

Ordered pepper steak and chicken fried rice as well as a chicken/shrimp egg roll. The egg roll was the only good item. There was no seasoning or even salt present in my food. Very very bland and I paid $33. read more

Rainbow Chinese never disappoints The almond boneless chicken is my favorite-- so tender and crunchy! There's always enough take home for the next day! They have upgraded their decor so it's very chic! I always get vegetarian egg rolls...yum! If you stick to mid-week-- it won't be overcrowded. Five Stars "Satisfied in Farmington!" read more

If you enjoy good traditional Chinese American food, then this is the right place for you. The food is fresh and tasty. The portions are extremely generous so expect to take home a doggy bag. The couple behind us split a meal, which in hindsight, we should have done. We ordered 2 dishes that could have fed 4 people easily. The restaurant does a lot of carry out business as you can see from the photo. We arrived at 5 pm when there only a few people seated at tables. By the time we left, the place was filling up. The wait staff was super friendly and efficient. The place was busy and although the waitresses were in constant motion, they were still attentive to their guests. read more

The food is consistently good' The service both for dine in and carry out is excellent! The ambience is nice.

Not sure where to begin. Long, long time customer and for the last few years I've noticed the quality not quantity of the food has gone down. When the family was more involved with the restaurant, the food was better. It just was. Nothing has the same freshness and well cooked taste it used to have. It is just different. People will say the portions are large- they are but not good. This makes me sad because I used to really like it. Something is just off. The food lacks the flavor it used to. And, today, the overwhelming number of gnats in the restaurant leaves me wondering what's going on in the kitchen. They might want to get back to quality and taste and not just portion. read more

First Time looking for a good Chinese restaurant will be back Great service great flavor

It is with a broken heart that I leave this review!! I have ate here several times in the past and always had very good quality (which is why I don't mind the prices) but I feel like the "quantity vs quality" problem has caught up with them. Total was just about $60. Ordered 2 sweet and sour chickens, 1 orange chicken, 1 steamed dumpling and 1 pint of Chop Suey "hot" with a "extra spicy" note. 1. The sweet and sour chicken bites were soft and some undercooked. Some of the chicken was grizzled which is an instant stop for my kids and I. 2. The orange chicken was good 3. The steamed dumplings were not edible. They were mush and smelled very funny. We have had them several times from here and they were so so bad. 4. The chop suey had zero spice and the sauce was on mostly on the outside of the bag. Very little vegetables and no flavor. Super disappointing to spend $60 and then have to try and feed the kids something else when they really wanted Rainbow. I won't chance it again! read more

Very large portions in a shoebox like container.I wanted to save the cute box more than the food...The box contained a large wad of stuck together lo me in with shrimp and limp overcooked veggies. All the chef had to do was the noodles to the sauce, instead of pouring it over the clotted noodles .Somebody is not paying attention.I would rather have less quantity and more quality. read more

I go here a lot. Honestly, the food is just okay most of the time, other times, disappointing. It's crowded when I go most of the time and the guy cashing out customers is a little impatient. I usually get General Tso's chicken and shrimp fried rice. The chicken is often over cooked and sometimes tough. The rice has no sprouts or onions or chives and lacks flavor. The staff is nice and pleasant. I keep going because it's close to me and keep hoping the food will be as good as it was when I first started ordering from them. read more

This is the best American style Chinese that I've ever eaten in, and believe me I've been to many. The ingredients are fresh, the flavors pop, the service is excellent, and the prices make it a great bang for the buck. read more

Food is mediocre. Not sure why so many great reviews. My guess is many people in America have yet to travel abroad and see how delicious the foods are when they are made authentically. It's sad to me that "we" settle for mediocre: too much sauce, sodium, MSG, old stale veggies, flavorless food... sold with lots of rice to stuff our bellies. I have yet to find a great Chinese Restaurant in the Detroit Metro Area. I've not sat inside this restaurant to really get to know the ambiance, but the place was really busy with both dine in and carry out meals. The service was not friendly... it was more like "NEXT!" You were treated like a number rather than a person securing someone's job/home/livelihood. read more

It was gross. Rice was dry and flavorless, the orange chicken was so over cooked we had to cut it with a steak knife, and the chicken wasn't glazed...it was swimming in so much sauce the deep fried breading just became this soggy, clumpy mess. It was fucking gross. read more

Since moving to West Bloomfield, I've been looking for a good, old-fashioned Cantonese restaurant. I'd passed the old location on Orchard Lake, but I didn't realize that that's what it was; the sign made it look like a party store or something like that. I'd also read reviews on Yelp and that's when I connected the two. Last night, my sister and I decided to try it. We were not disappointed. As others have said, it's tucked in the corner of an odd little strip mall that has 3 other restaurants as well as this one, a Great Clips and Ollie's. It really doesn't look like much, but man, the food is good. Our first indication that we were in the right place was the wonton soup. The broth was full of chicken flavor, not the watery broth that you usually get. The egg rolls were good, nicely crisp, and you could see the bits of shrimp and chicken. I had almond boneless chicken. There was an enormous amount of chicken, and a nice ball of perfect fried rice -- not the kind that's greasy. And they were smart and put the the gravy on the side so the chicken didn't get soggy. My sister had chicken subgum. She said it was really good, and the celery was particularly fresh and tasty. The portions are huge, and once we had the egg rolls & soup, we were pretty satisfied, so we asked for boxes. Well, the server boxed everything for us! I haven't had that happen in a long time. And she even put my sauce in a separate container. Even the packaged fortune cookies were good -- very fresh and crispy, not the least bit soggy. We will definitely be back -- and it will be even more of a pleasure to go there when the construction is done. read more

The shrimp egg foo young was not that good, the crab Rangoon was lousy, sesame chicken was okay, so was the egg roll. I won't be back...

We have been here several times and it's always good. Not excellent, but good. Hits: - egg rolls are fantastic!! - wonton soup is very good - flexible in letting you swap out sauces (I like almond chicken with the egg foo young gravy) - friendly staff (mainly the middle aged guy who likes to joke with others) Misses: - hot and sour soup is very peppery - egg goo young gets really oily at times - hubby claims the general Taos is peppery but i think it's just his taste buds from the hot and sour soup read more

Food is always good. Lots of carryout. Often busy at dinner time. Owner and staff are friendly. Sometimes noisy because it is busy.

I've ordered from this place twice now. The first time was sweet and sour chicken, the second was almond chicken. Both times the chicken was over cooked. I didn't like their sweet and sour sauce, which is why I tried the almond chicken on the second visit. The almond sauce was ok, but that didnt make up for chicken that was over cooked and tough to chew. read more

Went here for the lunch special which was $11.95. That included choice of soup, entree, fried rice, and an egg roll. I had the hot and sour soup and orange chicken which were both great choices. Would definitely come back just for the orange chicken. Service was very fast as it wasn't too busy for lunch. Very laid back spot with limited seating. Probably more of a takeout spot. read more

Our first time back today, and I wasn't as impressed with the food this time! They were very fast, and I love the online ordering feature. We essentially repeated our order because it was so good last time! But, unfortunately we didn't have the same experience. Still insane portions, tasty rice, and this time the were so incredibly fast! The sweet and sour chicken was great! My husband was really impressed and loved it. I got the sesame chicken and it was a little dry this time. It didn't have the same tasty crisp texture of the first go but the flavor was still good. Once again, INSANE value. I tried the spring roll and loved it! Crab Rangoon was amazing. They're still HUGE and so tasty! The hot and sour soup was the big disappointment this time. Even just from looking at it you could tell the pepper content was high. Once tasting it the pepper (literally ground pepper) taste was so overpowering it was inedible. It wasn't spicy, just tasted like taking a bite of ground pepper. It was so disappointing since it was SO good when we got it last! Overall still very tasty, and a great value for the money! read more

I have purchased "take out" with Rainbow for over 20 years! It's always been a great Chinese restaurant that is known for its generous portions! I decided to order a combo tonight, but was disappointed! The Egg roll was much smaller and very greasy. The Chicken Egg Foo Yung patties were much smaller and lacking the wonderful gravy! The flavor was great but just not the same as I've always known with Rainbow! read more

It hit a lot of right buttons! Sesame Chicken: really nice sauce on this, with a touch of vinegar so it wasn't too sweet. Chicken was tender and well- prepared. I liked it that it came with a little broccoli on the combo. Egg Roll - Nice crunch & flavor with a good amount of meat inside. Chicken Fried Rice - They nailed this. Texture was perfect. Flavorful and the chicken chunks were a nice touch. Came with combo. Egg Drop Soup - Tasty. Maybe a little heavy on the thickener? Still very good. Lo Mein Combo - Made with the thin noodles. It was a good dish with nice ratios and a generous amount of sauce. The only thing was, it didn't taste like lo mein we've had other places. It tasted like a noodle dish is a good brown sauce. We liked it all a lot, and also received good service inside. They rang the check right at the table! The leftovers were devoured by the family, and we planned to come back, so it's a win. read more
