Unfortunately, my experience at Rainbow Nails was very poor. I needed a pedicure and it literally was the worst one I ever received. The pedicurist literally took a kitchen cheese grater to my feet to try to manage my calluses heels, which was ineffective. Moreover, I don't know if it had been properly sterilized as she pulled it out of a drawer and not out of a package like the cuticle nippers and other metal tools she used. I had to ask her twice to trim my nails and in doing so, he injured my big toe, which feels like something got jammed under one of my toenails. Finally, he painting of my nails was so poor I had to have some of them repainted. Even then, the job was shoddy. I should have done the job myself and saved the money. I walked in at just the perfect time, when I was able to be seen immediately for a gel mani. Shortly after walking in, there was a rush of customers. One woman started filing my right hand, before they moved me to another chair to be taken care of by a man, who filed my left hand. I was handed off yet again, which was slightly off-putting as a first-time customer, but ended up in David's very capable hands, so the previous 2 techs could give manicures. I always do a little something extra with my mani, since I work with kids and they love to see bright colors and designs. David did my designs with hot pink rhinestones instead of polish, which I originally requested. They turned out great! A friend and I had an appointment for 2pm on a Sunday. When we arrived, they had already taken several walk ins and said we would have to wait. It was okay for a little while, but we had prior engagements later in the day so we needed to be taken care of. They took my friend around 2:30pm and she was done by 3. Unfortunately, they didn't take me until 2:50pm and it took them over an hour to do my nails. There was a language barrier between me and the people doing my nails. They also stopped several times while doing my nails to fix other people who had messed up their nails. Half way through doing my nails that lady that started took another customer and I had to wait until someone else was free to finish my nails. There are other places in Squirrel Hill that value appointment times and take care of their customers. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I won't be returning. I had a pretty disgraceful experience the other night when I went to get a manicure. I walked in at 5 PM and when I saw that the place was empty I should have left then and there. They directed me to sit with the woman who was going to be my manicurist and she was unpleasant from the beginning. She tried to convince me to get a gel manicure and insinuated that I was foolish for wanting a regular manicure instead. She actually said my regular manicure would chip within a day or two. I probably should have left again at this point. During my manicure I was made to feel bad when I asked her to trim my nail length, and I was made to feel even worse when I asked her to shape my nails round instead of square. She made me bleed while trimming my cuticles, did not apologize, and then without my permission put some sort of horrible stinging solution on my finger. They have never been happy to see me, they are very rough (I call one of them the butcher), and they rush through as quickly as possible. At first it seemed like it was going to be a wonderful experience. She fixed something other stuff places had ignored, but literally cut every cuticle on my toes and hand to blood and tried to tell me my cuticles were hard. In 20 years of getting my nails done this is a first. Buffed over the blood. Painted over the blood. Washing my hands stings still. You can see the dried blood with my gel polish. This nail salon is clean and nice. The big problem is they do not have enough staff to handle the people coming in. I waited for 45 minutes in a pedi chair, and again with my hands in a bowl for 15 min while the manicurist took care of another person. I was leaving town that particular day, and was very stressed out after being in the salon over 90 min. There were several other exasperated people there that same day. I think your experience at Rainbow Nails really depends on who you get. The first time I went, my gel manicure looked great, and the manicurist was very friendly. Unfortunately, after the experience I had today, I won't be going there again. I believe they had someone training, who trimmed my cuticles. While she was slow, and did not speak to me, she at least was not rude. However, once my nails were ready to be painted, another woman came over who was just unbelievable. She didn't actually speak to me all, no attempt at small talk.... not even a hello, I am going to paint your nails. Rather than use words, she communicated by grunting and waving her hands and pointing. At first, I thought this was because she did not speak English well, so this manner of communication was tolerable. Then, my friend mentioned something about going to Key West, and my manicurist perked up and started speaking with her in English! She told my friend all about her vacation. While she spoke with my friend, she did not make eye contact with me once. When her conversation was over with my friend, she went back to my nails without saying a single word to me. When she was done, she didn't even say all done, or keep your nails under the light for five minutes... she just walked away and started working on someone elses pedicure. While she worked on my nails, she sighed loudly many times and seemed annoyed. She was rough and just plain rude. I would tell you her name if she had actually told me... but like I said, she didn't speak to me the entire time I was there. She is short, thin, older with penciled in eyebrows and 5 inches stilettos. I was so frustrated because my friend who was there had a very friendly manicurist. Her manicurist spoke to her kindly, and did a great job on her nails. She gave her extra lotion, and rubbed in cuticle oil to her dry nails. I got none of this. After I got outside, I looked more closely at my gel manicure, and it wasn't even done well. The edges weren't filled in, and the bottom was splotchy. Another uncomfortable thing about this place, is that the owner is there, just constantly chatting with staff loudly. The first time I was here, I had a nice experience with pedi. Place is very clean and the massage/pedi chairs are comfortable. However, the polish had dings and spill over onto my toes that wasn't cleaned up. The second time, I felt like I was in the episode of Seinfeld, when Elaine has problems at the nail shop. I made an appointment with no problem. But the woman who did my nails was so NOT into her job! One of her friends came in and they were talking to each other, completely ignoring me...I could deal with that if she had been paying attention to the job getting my nails done. It took over an hour for my pedi and my legs were irritated where they had been rubbed too long because she was too busy talking to focus on work. I had to ask them to finish because I had somewhere else to go. What's up with that? It can't be profitable to have staff and space occupied while customers wait for service. I work in a job with direct client contact. I would be in such hot water if I was wasting time, resources, and alienating customers. I'm paying to be pampered. I want customer service. I paid $5 for designs on 2 nails. The design I picked was geometric and very simple but the guy did a terrible job. The lines are not straight at all and my friend said it was one of the worst she's ever seen. I'm pretty sure a 10 year old with unsteady hands could've done a similar job. I was told to pick the colors by myself when I asked for color suggestions (I don't know what you like, said the lady). Normally I have a good experience in this nail salon, but tonight was a totally different story. My experience was horrible. My go to guy David wasn't in, but I needed a pedicure being that I was going on vacation. The lady that was available was of course my least favorite. She gave me a terrible and rushed pedicure. I was not offered a bottle of water like I normally get. One of my toes was smudged and she clearly saw it and even touched it. Did she offer to fix it? Nope. I usually do not write negative reviews but I had such a bad experience I feel compelled to speak up. I called before visiting and was told the price it would be, and then made my way to the store. I arrived and gave the request that I discussed on the phone to the manicurist and we began. The manicurist yelled at me when she grabbed the color and I asked her if it matched the picture that I showed her. She forgot to put a top coat on my gel and smeared the polish all over my hands. She finished and my nails were extremely clumpy and the final product was think with bubbles in it. She took 2 1/2 hours to complete my polish as she was doing my nails and another girls nails at the same time. After receiving the horrible service, being yelled at for asking to confirm my color, and a less-than-perfect final product they had the audacity to upcharge me 50% on what they confirmed on the phone, and then aggressively pressured me to give a tip. I am sure this is not how they usually are but this is the horrible experience I had, and I hope that they read this and does something about how they treat their customers, and to make sure every manicure is given the attention it deserves. More than anything, I hope that they discourage yelling at and aggressiveness to the customer. read more

Before making my appointment I stopped over to make sure they'd cut and clean the cuticles which they assured me they would. Hardly any cutting was done. The nail polish was sloppy applied and 1/8 of an inch away from my cuticles. Nail polished was already cracked by the next morning. My nails actually looked awful and dirty. Went with my niece for mani-pedis. We were there for 2 hours and watched a number of other people get up and leave because just didn't have the time to wait, including a woman who was told she could not be seen until 1/2 hr after the appt time she made in advance. I've been here many times and always liked my nails. I got acrylic nails put on Saturday and on Sunday they were cracking and chipping. I'm going to prom and needed something that would look nice, but I just had her take them off. I didn't get a refund and she didn't ask to fix and make my nails look okay. Instead I had to go down the street and get them fixed. The first time she was filling and made two of my fingers bleed. While she was taking the nails off, it was also really painful. The manicurists who did my nails never smiled and the finished product was sloppy. Also, today, suddenly, they changed their credit card policy which they informed some people but not others.
