Highly recommend. I have been shopping around different nail places for a good, long lasting, dip powder manicure. My real nails break easily, are paper thin, and nothing except dip powder or acrylic works. Rainbow nails is the ONLY place that I have been fully impressed with for Dip Powder. I have now gone about 6 times. My dip manicure from here lasts for 3 to 4 weeks, the nails aren't too thick or thin, they are all even, they don't start lifting, and the appointment for removal and manicure is always under an hour time. Mia has been exceptional and I typically go to her, but anyone else who I have seen has also been good. It's easy to make an appointment, but I've also walked in on the weekend and gotten an appointment after waiting a little. I feel like it's clean here too. Today was my first time going to this salon after hearing so many good personal reviews from friends of mine. I walked in, and they took me right away it was after 3 pm. Gary was very professional, and he suggested the cucumber spa pedicure that is great for tired feet and sore leg muscles and deep hydration. Which is just what I needed. It included cuccumber vitamin treatment gel, using beauty wraps around legs and feet,callus treatment,10 min leg and foot massage, and hot stones on legs and hot towel. I was in total relaxation mode ‍ I was very happy with the nail salon it is very clean and smells good. The whole staff was so polite to all the customers. I've become a member for life. Worst experience I've ever had. First time, they made an open wound from their tools, then when the dip powder was all over my fingers, she filed my skin. I went back the next day to get them fixed, he said my nails were fine and there was no issue. Then I sat down, got them done, they nipped my skin again and there was more blood. And now they've also kept the powder on my skin. Then they had the nerve to ask me to tip after TWO horrible experiences. Never going back. They use old Gel, nails chip within a week. Had to go back to get 3 nails fixed and didn't remember color, so I ended up having to pay for full nail color change $30. I feel they should have changed the nail color for free since I had to go back for 3 chip nails. Needless to say i already have 2 more chip nails even after fix and nail color change. read more

Very disappointed i tried to treat my mom for mothers day this past monday doing a pedicure and we both left unsatisfied. Fastest oedicure ever. They timed the massage 3 mins but then was not fully massaging it the whole time worried about unplugging the water and taking care of the plastic bag in it. Went In for a pedicure (probably get one every 6 months or so) and was delighted by the atmosphere. Clean, greeted promptly, and seen quickly. I felt bad that my nails weren't trimmed before hand, but the technician: Ben (this guy was amazing! I'm a ticklish person when it comes to my feet, and his technique was flawless. I've gone here a few times and had good experiences. However, I came here a few days before Christmas so obviously they were super busy. I was a walk in so I expected to wait. People were coming in with appointments and even they waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. I waited about 45 minutes, and when I was seated i waited another 15 minutes. The technicians really don't know how to prioritize customers, and it was frustrating. I picked the gel color 115 in one of the books, which showed a black gel color with silver sparkles, but when the color went on my nails, it was clear and silver sparkles. The actual manicure came out good, but I'm disappointed in the false color option in the book. If it's a clear polish, it should be clear in the book. Overall, I do like this nail salon, they usually do a great job. But I wouldn't recommend coming here around a holiday. read more

I went to Rainbow Nails yesterday to have a gel manicure removed And get a regular manicure. The technician did not use acetone, cotton balls and foil to soak them. Erik just sanded them. Then he did a manicure. I asked for square not round. He did them square but did not smooth the edges. The edges are very sharp - I even have a cut on my finger from one of the nail edges. The manicure polish consisted of a base coat and one coat of polish. My nails look awful and the gel is not even completely removed. If I wanted an amateur job, I could have removed them myself at home and saved the money. Don't think I'll be going back there again. Very disappointed. read more

I went for a gel fill. I should have looked better before I left because a lot of spots were missed on sides and on tips and of my nails.. I had to go back the next day for them to redo them... although "Chris" was anxious to make things right.. he was extremely meticulous making sure to pay close attention to sides and tips... however I don't know if it is the quality of the gel polish they use or what, but it was kind of clumpy and my nails are lumpy not smooth.. looks like I did them myself.... I have been coming to this nail salon for many years now and it has changed hands within the past year. The salon is always very clean and they have done a nice job with the changes they made to the salon, but I have to say that they have gone up in prices for all of the extra little services. for example, they now charge for broken nails even if it is just for one! So on top of an additional $15 for chrome, $5 for a broken nail or 2, $10 for a special shaped nail, My last charge was $70 and my nails barely made it 2 weeks.I have several family and friends that have been going here as well, and all of us are now looking for a new salon. So many additional charges and never consistent with the prices either. They charge whatever they think they can get away with. This place will not make it much longer if they continue acting this way. Also, they charge tax on a gift certificate and put an expiration date on it! This is illegal for both! just an Fyi to the owner. Better change that before you get caught by the State. read more

I came here for a pedicure after a raving review from a neighbor.... I was not impressed. Low prices and a 6 min timed foot massage was the pitch, but turns out the prices aren't actually any lower than the salon I currently frequent, and the massage wasn't as good. Aside from the unrealized expectations, the staff wasn't very friendly, and the nail polish work was a little sloppy. In painting my toes they got some color on the skin, which wouldn't have been a big deal if they just wiped it off, but clearly they didn't care about the quality of their work. With so many other nail salons in the area, I wouldn't really recommend this one unless it was just super convenient for whatever reason. read more

Edit 5/11/18: I went to Rainbow for a basic manicure to prepare for my engagement photos the following day. I hate writing bad reviews, but I was SO disappointed in this service. I have been to Rainbow a lot, and for the most part have been satisfied. This service however was so sub-par on a day I really needed my nails to look great. The girl was so lazy with every aspect of my manicure. Filing was uneven, didn't help me with my bag when I went to the dryer, I could go on. Not to mention the language barrier made it very difficult to voice my concerns. My nails look sloppy and started chipping within hours, with no time for me to get the polish re-done or touched up before my photos. Despite multiple mani/pedis at Rainbow coming out just fine, this particular experience may cause me to go elsewhere for my nails from now on. Drove by Rainbow which is also new to Wallingford, and they were offering a grand opening 20% off special so I decided to stop in for a mani/pedi. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they got my pedicure started right away. I did the basic $30 pedi and it was great. Several minutes of a foot/leg massage, parrafin on my heels, hot towel wrap. The massage chair was great too and even had a USB outlet in the side. I wasn't happy with how the color looked as she started painting, so they graciously let me pick another. I also got the basic manicure which came with your basic soak and cuticle treatment, and also a hand scrub followed by a heavy coating of lotion, wrapped in Saran Wrap, wrapped in a hot towel. While my hands sat, I got I wonderful 3+ minute neck and shoulder massage. They handed me a stamp card and a coupon for $5 off my next treatment after I paid. This used to be my favorite nail salon, i recommended it to everyone! I brought my whole family here i went for at least a year. Then i had to take my nails off for a class i was taking and i came back to get a new set and they told me they stopped doing gel that the closest thing they had to gel was 70$ so i politely declined and the owner said we also have this powder for 45$ i agreed to that and showed them a picture of what i wanted and asked if they could do that they said yes i then asked what made them change from gel and she said the gel is bad for you and if i had any money i could've got the better type. However, during their busy times they rush your service and don't do the full experience I once used to get when they first opened. I went there yesterday I made an appointment for 4:30pm. I came in early since I got of our work and it's not a long drive over. I was picking out colors and felt super rushed. I was early. The guy that was assigned to me barely looked me in the eyes and made no attempt at conversation instead he decided to mumble insults under his breathe to his coworker. Very unsettling. He convinced me to do gel nails, which I do not regret I ended up doing regular polish on my toes. I felt like he rushed my whole appointment, when I got home I noticed my toes were extremely sloppy. I showed him a picture and explained to him that I wanted this style but with the colors I chose he nodded his head like he understood but obviously he didn't. He started to do the wrong design and told him about it he rolled his eyes and shoved my hand towards him he was extremely rude I felt so uncomfortable as someone to suffers from anxiety it was very difficult for me to sit there while he was man handling me. He was so rude I'm never going back there again. He demanded a tip from me even though their ATM machine was broken. I spent $80 for someone to suck their teeth in my face and roll their eyes at me. Although I don't know his name he was the chunkier tan fellow with the blonde in his hair. NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN. I'd rather travel 40 mins to have a friendly face do my nails than 5 mins to have someone roll their eyes in my face. My nails turned out nice after I practically forced him to fix his mistakes! I can't believe this place can't possibly understand the fundamentals of appointments and scheduling. Every time someone walks in they just take them and when you walk in with an appointment you could literally wait 2 hours. And they couldn't care less. I never had a manicure here under 1 1/2 hours. So this place used to be good. I had a bad experience about a month ago but gave them a second chance today. God how I wish I went somewhere else. The pedicure started out ok but the girl disappeared about half way through! I honestly thought she left but after 15 minutes she finally came back and I told her I thought she left. I'm the beginning, the service at this salon was great. As I became a regular client the service declined. I always make an appointment but I still have to wait every time. At least 15-20 minutes every time. They are always running behind and when they do get to you they rush. Service is inconsistent. Some girls use the hot hand lotion and Saran Wrap, some don't. Sometimes I get paraffin on my heels with a pedicure, sometimes I don't. Everyone should get the same treatment because we are all paying the same. Also, many times when you walk in no one even looks up or says a word to you. They carry on full conversations with each other in their native language and barely say a word to the customers. I had Rose one time for a pedicure and she was terrible. Very rushed and she is very rude. A few months ago I would have recommended this salon, but not anymore. read more

Felt like the women working here were pretty hostile towards the clientele. The woman who did my mani pedi was pretty rough and fast, filed my toenails down so low they hurt. Barely trimmed my cuticles. Did not ask what shape I wanted for my nails (they typically ask square or round). My nails look decent, except for the polish on my big toe which already is chipped. Yesterday I was searching for somewhere new for a mani/pedi and came across Rainbow as "clean" & "reasonably priced" so bc it happens to be right near my bank so I ended up here for convenience. You get the standard "Hi what you want, pick your color". Pretty decent selection of colors though I just wish there was some organization. I did notice the irony of "Rainbow" being in their name & adorned on their Dunkin Donuts inspired Brown and Orange smocks....?! Anywho, I picked my color and out of the 5-6 open chairs, sat next to the 1 other person also receiving service. I told this sweet girl I do have gel polish on & she told me it would be an additional $5 to remove before she started so I appreciate that. She handed me their brochure/menu? & asked what kind of pedicure. I informed her just a regular pedicure and for the $30 you do also get a 6 minute leg massage, paraffin on the heels so that was really nice. For the price, it was worth the value. She also asked me clarifying questions to make sure that she understood what I'd like (I had 1 accent nail done). At this point, it was just 1 other person in the whole place and there are 9+ mani stations...I was seated right next to this woman, which made her move her purse to the floor. Before my technician starts, I show her a finger nail that tore &needs repair (my natural nails) she said ok, asked the other man what he would you and then proceeded. As she gets started I asked if there was a somewhere that I can put my ring in as there was nothing out. Something that you never notice until it's missing but not a problem, she digs is from the back of her station and we move on. Let me start by saying that the manicure is WELL WORTH the price of $12. One thing I am not sure how I feel about... the scrub comes from a giant picnic mustard squeeze bottle. Of all containers in all of the world? I now see her in the Brown/Orange smock squeezing this mustard/scrub onto my hands and have to have an internal giggle at the fact I am at Rainbow Salon still. Not a big deal just odd. I get to wash my hands &she hands me a half "pick your size" sheet of Bounty to dry with. I was pleasantly surprised to go back to my seat & watch her open a new packet that contained lotion gloves. I sat in those while she came around &gave me a little back 'massage' (more of a grazing but maybe that's me). She showed &set the timer again "See I do for 3." Ok, yep, I see. I appreciate that the massage they have deemed part of your services and the timer that they set each time they start to rub. At first, but by this time ...it felt more like they are showing these timers as more of a "See, so you can't accuse me otherwise". I have to assume there was some event that perpetuated this practice that is similar to why McDonalds has to put "Caution: Coffee in Cut is Very Hot". It's during this time (about noon) that I realize what is playing on the TV is something I've never seen in a salon. Now I love CSI as much as the next housewife but it was stressing me out a little! Within 2 minutes they were removing some corpse lady's eyeballs with a needle. True story. Needless to say I spent the rest of the time just watching the other employees sit in the back row cut up foil and napkins. Oh, I forget to mention at this point another customer has walked in for a nail service & yep, they have sat her now on the other side of me (so now the first woman moves her purse to her right and I pick mine up and move to my right like a game of dominoes). The 3 of us are lined up in front.The place is spacious so looking out didn't feel too claustrophobic but as any of us move around (nail polish and check out desk directly behind us), it felt a little tight. So my little timer goes off and she stops grazing me, takes my gloves off and asks me to pay. OK, np...except my hands are covered in lotion so I just ask to borrow the hot towel she has on the station &wipe down a little first. I pay and again, a fair price for the services received, I get to put my ring on and wipe off a little more. Now to do the repair to my nail, she uses "SNS" brand nail dipping...something I've never tried before but been interested in. Was easy &lightweight while my nail felt secure. Painting, here is where I flag from impartial to meh. Maybe the paint I chose (neon pink) but it wasn't applying smoothly, she noticed herself & applied 3 thick coats.It is also drying matte. W/ a top coat no big deal but it did seem to change the end result shade a bit. Barely noticeable. I'm walked to the dry station& not interacted w/ again. I did seem to dry quickly for the amount of polish so that was nice. I leave go about my business... 2 hours later first chip. Then another & another. And about 5p I realize I have discoloration bubbles as well as 2 actual cracks. Polish issue? idk but going back tomorrow in hopes that they will do the right thing & fix me up. I'll end up using a different Brand & color though for a fresh 2nd chance! read more

I've only been here once for a dip powder manicure, but I really liked the process here. I came here after my highly sought after Fairfield nail salon botched a dip powder manicure where the topcoat peeled off after a few days (yikes!). First, when they soak your old dip power off, they use these heated gloves and it slides off your nails like butter; no damage to the nail and takes less time than the scraping/filing method that most salons use. Second, they use three coats of the dip powder every time (unless you request otherwise). Most salons only do two coats, which I know some people prefer because it is not as thick, but I have very thin nails so three coats will get me three weeks with no chips or nail breakage and it does not feel too chunky or thick (IMO). Third, these guys take their time. I would rather spend 1.5 hours to get my nails done right so they last for three weeks as opposed to someone rushing and it doesn't last as long or look as even. I will keep coming back for my regular dip powder manicure every three weeks and see how it goes. I have yet to find a nail salon that really blows my mind in Connecticut, but I think this is a safe bet for regular manicures. I can't speak to other processes such as acrylic. Absolutely HORRIBLE Gel Manicure!! It was almost transparent because she only put 2 layers on and it peeled off in full pieces in 3 days. It looked as if a 2 year old did my nails. Just happened to be in a neighborhood and decided to try this place. Cleansing this was questionable ,But it was too late to leave. Price for the jell nails was $25 which is five dollars cheaper than the place I normally go, Ended up it was not worth saving five dollars because the quality is trash is a less than a week my nail a looked like I needed new manicure . Sitting here letting my toes dry after one of the worst pedicures I've ever had. I've only had maybe a handful of bad pedicures in my 15 years of getting them and unfortunately this is one. The woman who did it was VERY rude and not thorough at all. She cut my skin several times, left my nails uneven, didn't file the bottom of my feet and gave me a half ass foot rub, the 6 year old I nanny for could do better. I've gotten manicures from here before and they were decent bur this pedi is not. This was a quick stop for me because I live near by and unfortunately it's my last. I may still come back for a mani from time to time but it will only be a last choice pick. I was tempted not to tip but I just didn't have it in me, I wouldn't feel right. I've been to this place twice and after my second time I will never go back even tho it's close to my house. The first time was okay, nothing to write home about. The second time the nail tech was extremely unfriendly. She was rough with the nail file and ended up cutting pretty much every finger by my cuticles. I was bleeding for days after and it is still uncomfortable after a week now. Then when I went to go pay, I am not sure who the person is to the salon but one of the other techs started screaming at me for trying to tip on my credit card. When I went the first time no one said anything to me about this. She screamed and told me cash only. I explained to her that I do not carry cash on me and she told me to use the atm. Not sure how other banks work but mine charges if I use other atms so I was not going to be charged extra money just to leave a tip to people who were extremely unwelcoming. Eventually she said I could tip on the card but it was "THE LAST TIME" as she said very loudly. I would rather drive 3 towns away to my regular nail tech then ever go back to this horrible place for convenience. I've been getting my nails done at different places regularly for a very long time and this was hands down my absolute worst experience at a nail salon. I am never coming back here! I went for the first time and it was the last time. I've never paid over $12 for a good manicure, and $15 for a mediocre manicure is absolutely ridiculous! The service was bad and the lady came up and demanded a tip before we even had a chance to open our wallets after letting our nails dry.
