    Oysters Rockefeller

Everything about this place!! We loved our waiter, the oysters Rockefeller, ESPECIALLY the crispy fried spinach - just get it!! Steak and salmon were both so good.

    Rain restaurant in Abingdon, VA.

While visiting Abingdon, VA, we went to dinner at 'Rain.' The food was excellent and the service without compare. We had a group of 10 for dinner and the waiter did an excellent job with our drink orders, appetizers, and of course our entrees. He was pleasant, and informative. The atmosphere was elegant with tablecloths and linen napkins. There was plenty of space between tables and we had wonderful dinner conversation. The steaks, I ordered the filet mignon au poivre, were good to our preferred temperature and my wife had the cobia, which she said was excellent. It was a lovely evening with friends, good food, and drinks. Our meal was about $80 for two with drinks. Follow me on Yelp for more to see and do while you are out.

I'm kind of torn between a 3 & 4 star for this restaurant. I'll first go into why I would give it 4: - Atmosphere and interior is super cute - staff is so friendly and helpful - service was quick - fried oysters appetizer was amazing - steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare - mushroom soup was good ...and then reasons why I would give it a 3: - the pepper crusted steak was SO salty and it felt like no one has tasted the dish before because the level of saltiness was almost unacceptable - bread with cheese dip also salty - other fish dishes I tried as well as the calamari was just average - cocktail/drink options were just okay in my opinion. They're strong so be careful. I tried the cosmopolitan & a Moscow mule. The Moscow mule had a lot of ginger in it but not bad. Cosmopolitan kinda tasted like cough syrup you take as a kid lol Overall I had an okay experience. I'm not sure if I would come back personally. Parking was a bit limited. Be prepared to parallel if you're coming for dinner or at a busy time

We always start our meal with Oyster Rockefeller, this time it tasted like there was basil in the cream. I wasn't crazy about that but it was still good. I ordered the night special of scallops in creamy basil pasta and my husband ordered the crab crusted salmon. Both dishes were excellent and we were excited to order something other than the tuna, which is our normal. Our server was excellent and we enjoy sitting outside especially during the fall temperatures.

Loved our meal! The butternut squash soup was unique and delicious! I got the penne special and it was good. My husband said his steak was just okay. But still giving it 5 stars overall it was a good experience. The service was great. Kept our waters full. It was my birthday but I didn't tell them. I did see others get birthday dessert with a candle in it. I was too stuffed to request that! Will be back!

Our family went on a short creeper trail vacation. Stopped here for an evening dinner. The service was great the food was just okay. No complaints but nothing to write home about.

For my last night in the region, my friends took me to their favorite restaurant, Rain. It was a great idea and I see why Rain is packed and has rave reviews. We were seated for our reservation right away. We ordered some wine by the glass and some appetizers: the baked fontina dip and oysters Rockefeller. Both were exceptional; I could have made a meal from both. I had the butternut squash soup as part of my dinner and it was delightfully creamy with a perfect savory-sweet combination. My NY strip was seared to a perfect medium rare and its sides were perfect. My friend loved his fried catfish; his wife said it was just liker her grandma used to make. She enjoyed her shrimp and pasta, too. We split the German Chocolate cake for dessert and it was hands down the lightest, fluffiest, yet still decadent slice of German chocolate cake I've ever eaten. Service was excellent. Hands down a must go to eatery in Abingdon.

The food was good, I recommend the garlic bread and the butternut squash soup. The salad was mediocre, nothing special. The service was good except that the waitress wanted to start removing some of the plates while some party members were still eating. I had to ask her to wait until everyone was done eating before cleaning up the table. I would recommend for the service practices to be revamped. Guests need time to eat without being disturbed.

This place is highly overpriced and pretentious. The service is poor as well. You get very little in exchange for a hefty tab.

I'm very appreciative they opened long enough for us to try a local brewery. The atmosphere is great. The bartender was super polite and helpful. Had the Vista Red Amber beer. It has a mild bite compared to some red ales I've had which gives a smoother flavor. I am not a fan of sour beers, so the biggest surprise was how good the "Meddle Sour Fruited" was. Definitely add this to your flight! Even if you are not a huge fan of sour beer. They have a food truck on site, but I do not believe it's open on Sunday's due to the short period of time they are open. If you are a beer person, then you have to try the local brew!

Twelve beers were available on tap, with more flavors available in cans. My husband prefers dark beers, and tried two of their dark offerings on tap: (1) Defying Gravity, Turkish Coffee Imp. Stout ($6/$9) (10% ABV); (2) Forest Black Lager ($4/$6) (4.8% ABV). He preferred the former, while I preferred the latter! We also got a glass of the House Seltzer, which featured ginger, beet, and lime ($3/$5, 5.0% ABV). This was refreshing, but I don't think that we'd order it again. In fact, by the time we went back to the counter, it was already sold out and replaced by another House Seltzer with a different flavor profile. On some evenings, there is a food truck (Chili Lime Kitchen or others) on-site, but on the Tuesday night that we were there, only bagged chips were available ($1 each). On other nights, there is live music or trivia nights. When the weather cooperates, there's also outdoor seating. The ambiance in the brewery was welcoming, with soft oldies music in the background. The staff member at the bar was quiet and efficient. Games are available to play. Parking was free and plentiful. We recommend this brewery. For those with RVs, this brewery participates in Harvest Hosts, with membership.

I'm giving this place four stars because I absolutely LOVE the idea of a brewery in Lebanon, and…read moremore than anything I want to promote this place and want to encourage people to patronize them - CHECK THEM OUT! Please! This place is genuinely worth your business. My husband and I live in Charlotte (land of many - and GOOD - breweries; at last count we have 30+), but he grew up nearby and we visit the area frequently, so this is a WELCOME establishment. I applaud the entrepreneurs that were willing to take a risk and make this dream a reality! The space is great - I love the custom murals (no idea who did them, but good job!), the excellent beer tap collection on display, the live music (David Burton was playing while we were there and was awesome)...it's a great vibe. Selfishly, I wish they had some outdoor space so I could bring my dog, but really the location is all-around stellar. And I love the collaboration with Shug's food truck - that's what it's all about, people! Local business supporting each other :) The only negative thing I can say about this brewery - and I say it hesitatingly because again, I love that they're doing what they're doing, and I don't want to discourage anyone from checking them out - is that their beer (generally) leaves something to be desired. Which is ok! They're a new brewery, and they're still getting on their feet and figuring this whole beer brewing thing out, so I'm very much willing to cut them some slack. As a consumer, however, I feel it's only fair to give the Yelp community an idea of my impressions of their beer, so take this with a grain of salt. I went with my husband, his brother, and a buddy of his, so between the four of us we tried pretty much all they had to offer. The good: I think we collectively agreed that their best offerings were the Nathan's Bitter Brown and the Pashun Froot IPA (also - I really got a kick out of the phonetic spelling of their beer names :P). There were mixed reviews on the wheat - some of us thought it was pretty good, some of us didn't. Generally I feel pretty good about recommending it. I also thought their IPA (not the Old Skool...the other one, I can't remember what it was called, but that one) wasn't terrible. But I like IPAs, so am perhaps more tolerant than most. The bad: My brother-in-law had the Kolsch, and said it was pretty meh (this from a Bud light drinker), so I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that. The dark beer (I think it was a stout) and whatever the cherry beer was (I think it was a sour?) were also not anything that I feel we would write home about. The ugly: My husband and his buddy both tried the pale ale and agreed it was pretty much undrinkable - they drank as much of it as they could, but appeared to be in agony with each sip. I can't, with a good conscience, recommend that one. Overall, I think that they're on their way and will only continue to improve the quality and taste of their beer...I'm honestly excited to try them out again when we visit over Thanksgiving to see how much they've improved. I gather that beer brewing, while certainly a science, is also an art - after all, the Sistine Chapel wasn't Michelangelo's first attempt at painting, am I right? I have high, high hopes that Lonesome Pine's beer will not only continue to get better over time, but that the brewery will downright THRIVE, and as it does it will inspire others to open small businesses of their own and make the downtown Lebanon area a little southwest VA mecca of local culture. What fun!!

Update: take 3 and a better experience. The bar man remembered us from the previous visit and gave…read moreus our drinks on the house. Said the batch he gave us last time was bad. Nice work. Look forward to our next visit. Yeah! Lebanon has a brewery! I never would have imagined. Went in on a Saturday night. Live music was pretty good. Easy going vibe. Family's just enjoying the night. Real friendly staff, happy to tell you about the place and beers. We had three beers. Two were solid, but the IPA wasn't good. But we'll definitely be back if we're in the area again. No food, but you can take out from nearby and bring it in. Update: we've returned for a second go round. I was so excited to be back. I want to love you, and I know you're a new brewery in an area that hasn't had a brewery... like ever. But if someone orders three different beers and finishes none, you need to ask why. We had the Cherry IPA, Bitter Brown and Country Kolsch. All were yeasty, vinegary, and sour ... and not in a good way. This makes me question sanitation and if maybe there's contamination in the fermentation process. Or maybe the lines aren't being cleaned. Please get this fixed because we want you to succeed! There is such an opportunity for a good brewery in this town. Please keep improving!

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience.
