I grew up in the town Rawalpindi and would visit the Haider Rd Rahat Bakers since late 80s. Since then that branch has changed its name to Tehzeeb, it was iconic spot on Harding rd b/w bank and haider road. Go to Ghakkar plaza and return to Rahat for ice-cream or patties! So one day while on Route 1 in NJ i saw RAHAT, and thought interesting! So i went on new year eve and got some Ras Malai, Allu samosas and Mithaie. All transported me to Rawalpindi!!!!! Well done, esp the Ras Malai as it wasnt overdone with rose water, just the right amount! I am samosa addict and cant stand a samosa with green peas in it, and there it was, the Mattar-less allu samosa, fresh and crispy! This is my grand central for the samosas! I put a post on facebook as I support Pakistani food spots, turns out I have mutual friends who run the establishment! Small world! Keep is

As someone who visited Rahat Bakers as a child in Rawalpindi, this visit was incredibly nostalgic and exciting. I was so happy to see that this location has perfectly replicated the bakery that I loved so much in Pakistan. I found the workers to be very kind and efficient despite the crowd. The chicken patties were fresh and delicious and the almond cake was tasty. We took our items to go and ate the patties in the car-- couldn't wait! I saw some folks enjoying a halwa poori breakfast which I believe is a new offering. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon but multiple places to sit. Can't wait to return and try some of the other offerings. The display cakes looked amazing.

Its a super cute family spot. We asked our waiter for recommendations and let me tell you, I give him 5 stars! We had the fried fish to start and shared the goat something or other, butter chicken, Roti and Naan. I can't tell you how many time my eyes rolled in pure enjoyment. I was so so sad when I got full because it was all soooooo good. The spices were so fresh and perfect. I could feel my pores opening but didnt feel like I was on fire. I ordered take out for my husband to try and so I can have more tomorrow because I know I'll be thinking of this meal non stop. I cant wait to return to try more amazing dishes!

However, over our last three visits, we've noticed several concerns: The taste of the food has changed, and some dishes were not properly cooked. The karahi gosht is no longer prepared the way it used to be, and the portion size has also been reduced. The seating arrangement feels too cramped for the space, making it difficult to move around comfortably. When concerns are raised, the standard response is simply, "we will let them know," without any visible follow-up. We genuinely enjoy dining here and would like to continue visiting. However, the inconsistency in food quality, along with pricing and portion concerns, has been disappointing and is making us reconsider. I would greatly appreciate it if the owner could give attention to these issues, particularly ensuring consistency in food quality and taste.

| Deeply Disappointed -- What Happened to Baithakh?…read more Baithakh used to be one of our favorite go-to spots in North Brunswick. We've always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, something has definitely changed since our last visit -- and not for the better. We ordered several dishes, including the Baithakh Seekh Kebab Roll, Crispy Fried Chicken Burger, Beef Paya, Beef Nihari, Peshawari Mutton Karahi, and Chicken Malai Boti. To our surprise, nearly everything was a letdown. The Beef Paya and Peshawari Mutton Karahi were both swimming in oil and severely lacked flavor, which was shocking considering how good they used to be. The Fried Chicken Burger had decent seasoning, but the chicken itself was tough and rubbery -- almost inedible. The Chicken Malai Boti was okay, but even that wasn't as tender or flavorful as we've had here before. Maybe they've changed chefs or recipes, but the quality just isn't the same anymore. Baithakh had never failed us before, but this visit was a major disappointment. Sadly, we're giving it a 2 out of 5 stars. We hope they find their way back to the standard that once made them great.

Pluses: Very clean; Staff is professional; spacious and during Covid time nice outside seating. I also felt the staff was considerate in making sure you get seated. For a family event this would be a great place to have lunch or dinner. Menu is pretty elaborate as well. Deltas: The food though true in texture, does not have the right amount of spice. I felt the food was cooked well, presented well but spice level was low. 1/2 point extra for the poster of a Hydrant in the men's bathroom. Classic

This is a hole in the wall place very cheap and good authentic food…read more There's a few places nearby that are a little bit more preppy an upscale but if you're just looking for some really good Middle Eastern south Asian food this is definitely the place to get food from!! I would definitely recommend takeout because indoor seating is a little bit tight and I would say it's not aesthetically pleasing but it's like any other mom and pop place. Like I said it's great for good food good prices, those are my favorite kinds of places. They also offer a buffet during the day that looks really really small from the looks of it, not sure that I would try that because I would think that there's not that many options from the size of the place and how theyy displayed it. Currently for the pandemic and social distancing purposes they are just doing takeout, no outdoor seating available.

I get the biryani, tikka masala, fresh breads - naan & paratha, chicken samosas & chana all of which I recommend. If you regularly eat South Asian food, you're used to being unabashedly stared out if you walk into a Desi restaurant and you're not Desi. At this restaurant, that's not the case. This is a major plus to me. There are often customers in there from other than South Asian ethnicities as well which makes it more comfortable if you're dining in. The downside is that they're slow especially if it's there are more than two customers there. They often will not address a customer who walks in but it's not out of rudeness. They may be in the back or you just need to ring a bell on the counter to get their attention. Also cleanliness isn't their top priority. Tables are certainly wiped down regularly but the utensils often have visible dust on them or just haven't been cleaned well. Bottom line : I recommend this spot for authentic halal Pakistani food especially for take out.

This is an update to a prior review. This has been one of our favorite restaurants in the area but…read moreour last visit fell short. We ordered the family platter and a hummus to go. We were told it would take 30-35 minutes, which is fine for cooked to order food. It really wasn't very busy, but the order took 50 minutes. The order was sitting on their counter ready to go, but it appeared they were backed up with making the bread. Once the bread came out, they bagged it up and we were ready to go. They almost forgot to give us the side salad, but they remembered before we left. Now for the food... - The bread that we waited for- was doughy and undercooked. It had burnt pieces stuck to it and they were not shaped as nicely as their usual bread. - The hummus side that we ordered, which was almost $8, was a half filled half pint container (very small amount) of what appeared more like a sauce rather than the thick hummus we are accustomed t. I wouldn't order this again. - The salad was watery...they need to drain the water better - The rice was cold - I think it was sitting out too long - Now for the main event - the meats - we enjoyed the flavor. This saved our dinner, we did enjoy the meats. We called them about the bread and they were apologetic, and told us we can stop by for bread next time we are there. As this is one of my favorite restaurants, I want to give them an opportunity to do better next time! The afghan bread and their rice have alway been my favorite part of their meals! I think it was an off night for them, I'd definitely give them a chance again in the future.

Everything from the Chicken Chapli Kabob, Chicken Gyro Platter, Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef Kabob to the fresh made naan is delicious. The hummus is a must try. The prices are still extremely reasonable and the portion sizes are large. The service and staff is also very personable, friendly and full of suggestions. The interior has a casual front side with tables and the back has some booths with some ethnic decor. There are not many Afghan restaurants in the area, but hands down this is one of the best ones I've been too. I definitely plan on continuing to eat here.

Beef fried rice was flavorful but HEAVY with black pepper. I didn't mind it too much but I would have like a little less pepper because it over powered the meal Fish with Garlic Sauce - was just salty. For mains, we tried the beef lo mein and chicken shishka, both good but a bit heavy on the spices. Overall, great service, cozy vibe, and really solid halal comfort food.
