Quite surprised to see such a hash review coming recently. My first impression was that there must be some misunderstandings there. We have two kids learning there for quite long (starting before pandemic, you do the math..), and they gained our respects.
First of all, Ms. Rimma herself is an awesome teacher, and illustrated wonderful piano skills during teaching process. But please keep in mind that, she is also have high bars on skills and want kids to work hard to sharp the skills to perfection. She needs some collaboration from students as well to reach that bar, and hence it is not suitable for everyone. My son one time had issues (because of his ego) and in that case, she recommended other teachers with "softer" teaching styles, but we talked him through that and he's ok now. Partially maybe he's getting older now.
Different kids have different progress, naturally. My son and daughter started at the same time, and now they have different levels. I assume age really matters.
Also, based on our humble experience, piano learning depends not just teachers -- who may stay with you for 1 hour/week, but also daily practices. If minimum daily practice is not guaranteed, there's no way to improve no matter whom the teacher is. Speaking of experience, in the past after summer break without regular practice, we noticed how rusty the hands can become, LOL...
For recitals, our view is that, it serves two purpose, performance checkpoint and confidence/passion building. It is optional to participate anyway. And in the recital, you can hear all levels of play, from some little starters playing 'twinkle twinkle little star' (our kids starting like that as well....) to more advanced players spamming the keyboard. And we applause to all, for sure, :-).
Any way, hope this is more balanced review for this studio. And personally, we will recommend it to friends who want more serious piano educations. And have a nice day. read more
