What is the minimum age for a child to enroll?

Although every child is different, we recommend that children are at least 7 years old before enrolling at Oclef. In some cases, we recommend the student starts even later. We are aware that most schools and studios take children from 4-6 years old,…

We feel incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Liya Ledyaeva as our daughters' piano teacher. As a…read moreparent, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your children grow under the guidance of a teacher who truly understands, encourages, and believes in them. Ms. Liya is an exceptional teacher and an extraordinary pianist herself. Her knowledge of classical music, attention to detail, and ability to bring out musical expression in her students is remarkable. But what makes her truly special is the way she combines high standards with kindness, patience, and warmth. She knows when to challenge her students, when to encourage them, and how to inspire them to reach a level they may not have realized they were capable of. Under Ms. Liya's mentorship, we have watched our daughters grow tremendously--not only as a pianists, but also in their confidence, musical maturity, and love for music. We love the joy and confidence with which they approach the piano. Both my daughters absolutely adore Ms. Liya, and that relationship between a student and teacher is something very special, and as parents, we couldn't ask for more. We are also very grateful to Pleasanton Academy of Music for creating an environment where young musicians are encouraged and challenged positively. Ms. Liya is truly one of those rare teachers who can make a lasting difference in a child's life. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Cons: It bugs me when the schools are cutting corners. It's shocking that they use a demolished site as a recital spot. it's financial savvy of them to have their own recital venue that increase their margin. BUT if the independent piano teacher or tiny schools can pull out a decent recital experiences for students, How can this massive school use a pre-demolished site for recital. It will not get better even if they remodeled as it's just a sad space among all their future classrooms.

We rented here over the 24/25 school year for my daughter to pick up the Viola. The shop owner (at…read morethe time) was swamped with multiple people in the shop since it was the beginning of the year and he had some help. They were fairly helpful coming from someone who knows nothing about orchestral instruments. They had a wide range of instruments late after the local school started which was a bit odd but a sigh of relief for us since it enabled my daughter to play something. They had all the sizes needed in both Viola and Violin so that was good. The shop keeper's daughter helped size my daughter for the right sized viola and we were on our way! Or so we thought. His daughter said we're good but he insisted we get a chin rest for the viola. Repeating the fact that I know nothing about these, I listened and bought a $25 rest. Why? because I thought she needed it. Fast forward 8 months, my daughter NEVER used it. Apparently the rest is for kids who have trouble fitting it. So if you get one that's too big/small it is an intermediary. Problem is, she was sized for the right one! Again, thinking about the end of year, we are there to return and the shop keeper asks if we're going to play next year (in 3months). I tell him yes and he keeps drilling the statement, "It doesn't make sense for you to return. It's a waste of money because of your rental credit" The words rental credit in most peoples' minds would flag a "Oh i don't want to miss out on that money". I asked him to clarify what it was and what it was applied to and he kept insisting I'd be losing out on it. When he realized I wasn't budging on that front, he said that I would have to pay for another fitting fee too when we returned. I asked him how much it was and he didn't really give specifics. I told him we were going to not even touch it for 3 months because of travel and other activities and that I didnt' want to pay the 3 months rental. He kept insisting it's not worth it. He was talking a lot and honestly was confusing me so I said, "Hold on, let's do the math here." His tone changed completely. He realized what was going on and finally started talking straight. The fitting fee was $28... or you could say ONE month. The rental credit? It's in your contract (which you should review) and is a credit of 50% of your rental fees towards purchasing the viola you rented... Let's think about this. You've got a kid who's NOT fitted for a full size. Why on earth would I buy a 3/4 size viola? I told him we're never going to buy and he did the sensible thing of saying "You never know" and he was right. I don't, but I know i'm not buying a 3/4 viola. In the end, I thanked him for trying to "save me money" but told him I'm not interested. I'm not trying to say he was trying to swindle us but he was sure trying to get us to not return it when I made it clear, we weren't going to keep returning. On top of all this, he doesn't have a computer system for the rentals. That's fine in many aspects, just weird. I'd rent from here again since they were helpful and it's reasonably priced, but the return process was like trying to cancel your xfinity subscription

Finding the right piano teacher for a five-year-old is no small task, but finding Ms. Natalya…read moreTitenko (Ms Natasha as she is fondly known) was an absolute blessing for our family. My son has been studying piano with her for the past five years, and she has been nothing short of fantastic. When he first started at age five, we desperately needed someone who could understand a young child's temperament while gently nurturing a genuine love for music. Ms. Natalya struck that delicate balance effortlessly. She is wonderfully patient, kind, and yet wonderfully firm when it counts. She knows exactly how to make him work hard, and she truly takes immense pride in his progress and every milestone he achieves. Because of her exceptional guidance, dedication, and high standards, he has excelled year after year in his CIM Piano exams. Ms. Natalya is a true perfectionist in the best possible way--she instills that same level of passion, attention to detail, and rigor for hard work in her students, consistently bringing out the absolute best music in them. We are also so grateful to be part of the Radayeva School of Music, where Ms. Natalya teaches. All the teachers there are simply wonderful. The school is fantastic at fostering a thriving musical community, hosting biannual music recitals as well as many competitions where they bring in truly esteemed piano teachers for judging. These events provide incredible opportunities and platforms for students to truly showcase their talents and grow as musicians. If you are looking for an exceptional music school and a piano teacher who combines deep musical expertise with genuine care, discipline, and an ability to inspire greatness in young minds, look no further. I recommend Ms. Natalya and the Radayeva School of Music with my highest and most enthusiastic endorsement!
