He has had two excellent piano teachers, who are formally trained and know how to teach. He has been learning a combination of classical music, theory, and now jazz improvisation, and he's even been getting tips on how to record and edit music using an iPod and computers. His guitar teacher is also formally trained and is teaching fundamentals along with how to play songs. On both instruments, his pace of learning has been fast and his teachers have inspired him to practice and to enjoy music. The studio also sets up recitals and other events at quality venues. Overall, I highly recommend the studio.

We can help advanced students develop their skills to prepare for auditions and competitions while introducing music to students who are just getting started. I admire and appreciate all of my students, whether they are continuing their studies, learning piano for the first time, or returning after a hiatus. With the studio, I aim to combine the best of the Russian and American approaches to music. We provide students with a strong foundation in classical music while giving them the freedom to explore their interests. Music is so universal--I have lived in three countries and traveled to many more and music is the one language everyone immediately understands.

I would say he's a great fit for you if you have some experience (it doesn't have to be much) with the instrument and if you also like to be proactive with work outside what is given to you. He is always positive, encouraging, and never makes you feel discouraged if you haven't practiced as much as you'd hoped. I usually only manage one or two hours of practice each week, but I still feel like I'm making steady progress. He has a wide variety of music to match different interests and likes to get you playing music right away. He makes learning the violin enjoyable and approachable. During a recent restaurant gig, her speakers blew out suddenly and unexpectedly. She was embarrassed and devastated. The next day, we phoned the speaker manufacturer and they told us to go to Guitar Center to have them replaced at no cost, as they were still within the warranty period. We figured there was no way it could be that simple, but it was. When we got to Guitar Center, Sidney (the manager) swapped out the old speakers for brand new ones, no questions asked. I can't tell you how reassuring this was for me and my daughter. We are so glad we purchased her equipment at Guitar Center. This store gets an A+ in my book. Thank you, Guitar Center.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Liya Ledyaeva as our daughters' piano teacher. As a…read moreparent, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your children grow under the guidance of a teacher who truly understands, encourages, and believes in them. Ms. Liya is an exceptional teacher and an extraordinary pianist herself. Her knowledge of classical music, attention to detail, and ability to bring out musical expression in her students is remarkable. But what makes her truly special is the way she combines high standards with kindness, patience, and warmth. She knows when to challenge her students, when to encourage them, and how to inspire them to reach a level they may not have realized they were capable of. Under Ms. Liya's mentorship, we have watched our daughters grow tremendously--not only as a pianists, but also in their confidence, musical maturity, and love for music. We love the joy and confidence with which they approach the piano. Both my daughters absolutely adore Ms. Liya, and that relationship between a student and teacher is something very special, and as parents, we couldn't ask for more. We are also very grateful to Pleasanton Academy of Music for creating an environment where young musicians are encouraged and challenged positively. Ms. Liya is truly one of those rare teachers who can make a lasting difference in a child's life. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Our band also worked with Jules Leyhe of Seeds... who is also excellent. Regarding whether you should get a music teacher, my experience is that I progressed much faster, maybe twice as much, because a teacher pushes you to do the things you need to do, but hate doing, in order to improve, e.g., tempo, theory. Put another way, you spend much more time practicing and much less time noodling.
