I emailed, voicemailed and texted at his request my need for some home plumbing, two 'small' projects, and he initially voicemailed me back that he was ordering a needed part. Then he ( a day later or so) contacted me saying, I should order the part myself as it would be under the mfr lifetime warranty. Short version, he just disappeared and after a few days of being patient and no response I just fixed it all myself. So, that was the upside. Next time you need a plumber, call me (no, no don't do that!!). But I did learn how to replace a shower control cartridge, very easy to do, you don't need a plumber at all. I would have been totally fine with him saying "I don't have time/your project is too small/whatever" and I'd have moved on happily. I was 7 days from closing on a sale, the line was discovered during inspection. The other duplex owner was rightfully out of her mind because the line ran under her beautiful stamped patio. Sewer Lines Only recommended tunneling under the patio from my property. We had (I'm counting....) 7 very reputable sewer companies quote this job. No one else mentioned going in from the side, and when I circled back to ask, none could. SLO's quote was 25% lower than the next lowest bid (thousands in savings) and 50-75% lower than most bids. So I was hesitant. Enter Joe from SLO - a project manager or engineer? He was so confident they could do this job from the side (really confident, not salesy confident), he made himself available to me at any time to explain the work but never once called me to "seal a deal." He probably took 20 calls/texts from me. I took the gamble and got on a plane to Denver. Jerry and his team showed up promptly for the job, were professional, courteous, and thorough. The line was fixed, no patio or fence demo required. When a possible additional leak was discovered with scoping, Joe came out and confirmed personally that there was no issue. Enter Monica in Billing who went the extra mile to figure out how to split invoicing to bill the other owner her portion and free my property up for sale. And did it gladly. We had the job quoted on several occasions with bids coming in from 10k to 14k and we always opted to just keep waiting and shopping. We used Yelp to start a "job" and half a dozen companies looked us up. We spoke to four of them then had Sewer Lines Only come out and talk to us. My sister had used them a year earlier and recommended them from the list of possibles. A man named Murray showed up at our house and we liked him immediately. He was honest, funny and simply very likable. He scoped our line and told us we're not in desperate need of a line replacement. We enjoyed the honesty. We had roots in our line and needed to have them cleared about once a year. Not a huge deal but the sewer backups were aggravating and always happened at terrible times. Murray worked us up a quote and we were flatly shocked and dumbfounded at the quoted price. 5k for thirty three feet of line replacement. We started wondering what the catch was. How was this possible? A full half of the best quoted price of the last three years. We took to Yelp and the BBB to research this company and the reviews were stellar as was their A+ BBB rating. A few days later I stopped in their office to accept their bid. That's where I met two more of this companies stellar staff, Monica and Kim. These two women put us further at ease this thus was going to be money well spent. A week later, Pablo showed up at our house with his crew and a skid steer. Pablo treated us like gold and was happy to learn he actually worked for Sewer Lines Only and was not a contractor. This man is a surgeon with a back hoe. They had all thirty three feet dug up and replaced in three hours. We were only minus a sewer line for three hours which really minimized our in house inconvenience. The next several hours were simply waiting for the city inspector to show up. It was very confidence inspiring when the inspector told us that he doesn't really even need to check Pablo's work as he simply never makes mistakes. The trenches were filled back in and tamped down very well. Mi sidewalks, lawn and driveway were cleaned up very well. Murray then returned and scoped the lines to make sure it was all good and he scraped the inside of our cast iron line inside the house. This was an absolutely exceptional experience from the get go. An unbeatable price and first class staff and workmanship. It's nice to have this huge worry off our backs and it came with a five year transferable warranty. I've been using Summit since ~2018 to handle my furnace maintenance. This summer I had them out to…read moredo a tuneup on my two A/C units. I mentioned to the tech that the upstairs didn't get quite as cold as I would like; while I suspected some of that could be system/ductwork limitations, he suggested that we could add a little more freon to the system in the event there was a possible slow leak. Ultimately, he ended up adding freon to both the upstairs and main floor unit, and unexpectedly much more to the main floor unit. The price after the fact surprised me, especially given that particular unit had appeared to have been working fine; the tech told me it was possible that unit had a leak. He informed me Summit would schedule a leak investigation if desired, but that it would cost a whopping $1,100, so I declined given the performance on that unit had been fine. Fast forward a week or two, and the main floor is quite hot. The ducts seem to be blowing hot air. At which point it became clear to me the unit has actually stopped functioning. I call Summit, which is busy with appointments and express my dismay that the unit stopped working after the tuneup. They tell me it may be a leak etc., but they will send someone out. I wait for the scheduled appointment and the tech that arrives this time clearly didn't look over the prior notes or photos before arrival. I explain to him the situation, and he was confused about which unit was implicated, and claimed that the prior pressure readings from the earlier tech clearly indicated there was a leak (which was not at all what I was told). He later retracted this statement after realizing what time of day the earlier appointment was and said those pressure readings were normal. He poked around briefly, but without much investigation declared the system to have a leak, and indicated there was an 80% chance of it being non-repairable. He indicated they would have to do the $1,100 search to locate the leak, and if it was in the condenser/evaporative coils it would not be repairable. If it was somewhere else in the line, it could be, but then they would possibly have to tear into my walls, etc. to identify the issue. When I asked how much a new unit would be, he gave me a rough quote of $15,000, but told me that they would have to look at specs to price out more specifically. I asked him to do so, given I wanted to know what I was looking at, and he appeared inconvenienced by the request and said it would take him an hour. (It did not.) During that process, the tech told me my ductwork was not sufficient and I would need to downsize my unit, and that the smaller size wouldn't be enough to cool the floor. He suggested my unit may have broken because I keep the basement vents closed, but then he also claimed these A/C units only last about ten years. The whole visit felt performative, and ultimately was much more focused on theoretical salesmanship than anything diagnostic. I was left pretty frustrated. I called out a different repair company recommended by a friend, and within 5 minutes he had identified the leak and the location in the coil. Contrary to what I was told by Summit, this company informed me the coil could be replaced and that I had many more years of life left in the unit. Within the week, I got the whole thing repaired and refilled for ~$1,200--not much more than the cost of a Summit "leak search." While I've had positive and knowledgeable techs with Summit, this whole experience was such a breach of trust that I will not be using them again. I had another company inspect my furnaces this fall for a fraction of the cost, and I will not be looking back.
