I've just come from my second massage from Rachel and just think she's the bee's knees. Her massages aren't only about relaxation, but about healing. In both massages I've gotten from her - each only 30 minute sessions - I drifted into an almost meditative state and left feeling aligned and healed. She has a gentle, kind demeanor when speaking to you, but once she gets her hands on those knots in your shoulders, look out!...and I mean that in the best possible way! She really knows how to get down into the tissue and release all the bad stuff that makes our bodies hurt. I also like how she asks how you're feeling before the session...she makes sure to ask where your trouble spots are and assesses them before you begin and then re-assesses your spots when you're done. She's very kind and thoughtful in that regard. I've had a lot of massages at some pretty fancy resort spa-type places, but Rachel's healing touch really stands out among them all. Rachel has worked on me for about six years off and on, and I have to say I'm healthier because of it. With a lot of work stress and then a minor head-banging accident, I was wearing my shoulders as earrings and having a lot of neck pain and headaches. Much better after a few weekly sessions. I studied massage in another state, so I've got high expectations from bodywork beyond the usual day spa abilities. Rachel really shines in her ability to assess the root of the issue, work it out with STRENGTH, and remain in tune if there are any "surprise" areas not discussed beforehand. I went to Bodywork by Rachel through a promotional offer, and even though the deal has passed, I still go to her. She is able to customize to my specific problems areas, which are primarily my knees from running. She even has shown me special stretches to do on my own. She also is able to tell me how different pain or tightness in my back relates to specific day-to-day stresses. The last time I went, I tried the hot stone massage - I felt ten times lighter after I left. I was pleasantly surprised by working with Rachel. Additionally, her work had a lasting effect on my body, and provided it with much relief. I went in due to pain shooting down my right leg when I was stretching, which alarmed me. She explained that her work isn't massage, but stretches the fascia. It's unique to anything I've had done before. She worked on the issue gently and thoughtfully, and before I left her studio, asked me to try the stretch again to make sure my leg felt ok. I think I have been seeing Rachel since, the summer. Focusing on coming in twice a month. Somewhere between 4-6 months. So I have seen her somewhere between 8 and 12 times I believe. That for me is a testimony of her massage prowess. I have sent my husband to her, my father, and referred friends. She has a definite gift. And what separates what she does from others I have experienced is that she holds space for her clients, she focuses her attention and is responsive to you and your body. Being a dancer and physically very active, Rachel has been able to specifically address my body's problem areas. I always carry tons of stress on my upper back and shoulders, and I have fallen asleep both times when Rachel has worked on me. I never allow myself to be that relaxed. I am so bummed to have moved my office from Los Feliz! I don't to see Rachel nearly as much. Rachel has been my go to for my structural bodywork for the past 3 years. She is an expert in myo-fascial release. Having been a runner, a dancer, and a martial artist I have had my share of structural issues. I have needed a lot of releasing of the fascia and when I fell off my friend's porch and jacked up my neck and elbow 2 years ago (don't ask) she was the there. Thank god :) Rachel is a winner. Rachel is absolutely wonderful. She is very skilled and intuitive. I didn't realize how amazing a massage could really be until I came to see Rachel for the first time several months ago. Since then, I haven't been anywhere else. I would much rather come to Rachel than any fancy spas in the area. She's a kind and lovely person, and STRONG!!! I love it! Unlike other massage therapists, Rachel really takes the time to ease into your muscles and relax your body before doing the healing. I get migraines often, but they have significantly decreased since coming regularly. I also recently pulled a muscle which threw my whole body off, after an hour with Rachel, the pain had almost completely melted away within a day or two. She is a gem. Rachel is awesome. I live in NYC but am in LA for a few months. I have been seeing a body work woman in NYC who does Rolfing and very specific body work with me, and I was really worried about finding someone here that could compare. Rachel did not disappoint at all. She is more than just a massage therapist but rather really understands the body and how to help me with my chronic pain.
