Another fun, comfy visit with Linda at Rachael's Dowry. It's aways felt like visiting family - the good kind. If you've read my previous reviews, you know how much we love staying here. I'm posting this primarily to let readers know that Linda has sold Rachael's Dowry, and that November 2025 was her last month. We met Sam, the new owner, and he seems very nice. He has taken over as of yesterday. It's hard to imagine anyone replacing Linda (we love you, Linda!), but we are still likely to stay there next time we're in Charm City. Best of luck, Sam! There is no better place to stay when visiting Baltimore than Rachael's Dowry. The inn is a once in a lifetime unique experience that is rich with history. The owner, Linda, will go through tremendous lengths to ensure that you are comfortable and welcomed. She even went as far as providing me with a map and several books to highlight some of Baltimores most sought out landmarks and restaurants. The location of the inn is a stone throw away from Oriole park and within walking distance of the inner harbor. We had a fantastic experience at this bed and breakfast. Linda has thought of every detail from top to bottom to create a unique, immersive, and comfortable experience. We stayed in the Laetitia Mae Suite. This room was wonderful as it has a separate bathroom with a claw foot tub, marble shower, and private balcony. The rest of the house has a cozy, historical feeling at every turn. The library, with complementary tea or a nightcap, was lovely. And last but not least, Linda's homemade breakfast each morning was fantastic! I wish I could have finished it. Coffee, water, juice, muffins, berries, as well as a main course. My fiancé and I stayed at Rachael's Dowry Bed and Breakfast, for a staycation to celebrate our engagement. The cleanliness and the Covid-19 procedures were phenomenal. I felt very comfortable staying at this bed and breakfast, for those things alone. Now onto the stay! Linda the Innkeeper is amazing! From the initial calls to confirm details of our stay to the lovely welcome tour of the home, it is obvious that she cares about her guests, the history of the building/Baltimore, and the creation of wonderful impressions of bed and breakfasts in general. The decor, hospitality, food/snack offerings all work to highlight the history of this building. We stayed in the Ella Virginia Suite on the top floor. The clawfoot tub was a nice addition to this room. And my fiancé is still talking about the soft bedsheets! Also, if you get a chance, don't forget to try Linda's Carrot Cake Pancakes for breakfast. I went here for a weekend vacation and really enjoyed my time there. I saw so many positive reviews I was afraid that were fake but that are spot on. The rooms are gorgeous and Linda cooks an excellent breakfast! I hate waking up in the morning but I made sure NOT to miss her absolutely delish meal. She also makes the best gluten free cookie you will ever taste in your life. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Rachael's Dowry Bed & Breakfast over the 2024 Memorial Day weekend. My wife grew up as a Baltimore Orioles fan, and we had tickets for the Monday afternoon game. We decided to make a weekend of it, and we just stumbled upon this place while looking for someplace near the stadium on Google Maps. From the moment we parked our car and walked in, Linda went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The area can be very confusing to navigate, but she had given us directions to the parking lot ahead of time. The facility makes you feel like you have walked into an episode of The Gilded Age. The place is filled with charm, history, and comfort. For my fellow bibliophiles, Linda has a cute little library on the first floor in the parlor area. We selected the Ella Virginia Suite for our stay. It was a challenge heading up the 3 flights with our luggage, but it was so worth it. The suite was clean and comfortable with a classic bathtub in the bathroom next to the shower. This room screams relaxation! The morning breakfast was no cheap hotel continental affair. THIS. IS. BREAKFAST!!! We were so well fed, we skipped lunch each day that weekend and felt fine until it was time for dinner. Linda was also a very gracious host with a depth of knowledge about the history of the house as well as the area. We will certainly stay here anytime we are in the Baltimore area! read more

As part of Doors Open Baltimore, we were delighted to have the chance to visit this B&B. It was like stepping back in time. This lovely home was built around 1798 and was lovingly restored in 2005 by the owner, Linda Smith, along with Jacob, the Inn's manager. It opened as a B&B in 2010. Linda and Jacob gave us a complete history of the inn including that George and Martha Washington visited on their travel through Baltimore. It is located just south of the University of Maryland Hospital on the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail. They told us that it was a safe house on the Underground Railroad. It has gone thru many ownerships and survived demolition when they thought I-95 would come right through it. It is truly a cozy and inviting home with a lovely setting for a B&B - you feel like you are in the country. read more

My guy took me to Rachael's Dowry for a birthday getaway yesterday. We both work from home so thought it would be nice to go stay over somewhere else! What a great surprise this was. The house is stunning, spotless, full of history and the innkeeper, Linda, could not be more kind and helpful. When we told her we requested no meat or dairy, she made it her mission to give us a lavish breakfast of it! Our room, Audrey Genevieve, was beautiful and so comfortable. My wife and I loved this beautiful B&B. We were in town to see an Orioles game which unfortunately we learned was rained out while we were on our way but we made the most of it anyway. Linda was a wonderful host. Upon arrival, she gave us a tour of the grounds and the history behind the house. She answered all of our questions and helped us make alternate plans. We stayed in the Ella Virginia Suite which was a gorgeous room. The suited had a large bathroom with a soaker tub. The room was very clean and comfortable. The sheets were so comfortable we are thinking of ordering some for our home! The B&B is within walking distance to Camden Yards as well as the convention center making it a wonderful option for whatever brings you to Baltimore. Rachel's has a few spaces in the parking lot behind the inn that are available for a daily fee. We loved the breakfast too. Linda made carrot cake pancakes which were decadent and delicious. The fresh cookies kept us sneaking one or two throughout the day. There are also a few glasses and brandy in the library room should you choose to indulge. The owners did a great job of renovating a historical building to create a comfortable and tasteful abode with modern conveniences while retaining the charm and details of the building's background. The balance and touches of history and modernity are just the right mix, not overwhelming or stuffy (nor flowery). The large room we stayed in had tall windows that looked out on to their beautiful garden and the street. Even the bathroom was large and beautifully outfitted. Located within a quiet charming (i know, i said charming already...) little network of old little buildings and streets. Perhaps a bit like a miniature NYC West Village? There is a large front garden, so it' set back from the street. It's also walking distance to the stadium, convention center, waterfront, and med school. What an amazing find! My husband and I stayed here for our mini-moon. We scoured the internet looking for a nice play to stay in Baltimore, and were excited to book Rachael's Dowry based on the excellent customer reviews. This place did not disappoint in the least! Titia, one of the proprietors, contacted us shortly after we made our reservation with helpful information and directions to their private parking lot (no extra charge). We parked our car and never moved it because the B&B's location was super convenient...a short walk to Camden Yards and all of the attractions at the inner harbor. Our room (which we selected from the several available) was tastefully and comfortably decorated, with modern amenities that didn't take away from the historic/period touches. The rest of the B&B was wonderfully restored, and we were invited to walk around and enjoy it as if it were our own home. We felt so welcome! The breakfasts were incredible. I looked forward to seeing/smelling/tasting the delicious meal we'd be surprised with each morning. Everything was locally grown or made, and prepared fresh each morning by Norm, the main proprietor (I need to get his recipes). We'd usually move to the cozy shaded garden in back and let breakfast settle before heading out for the day. We had such a great overall experience, we intend to return to Rachael's Dowry at least once a year for a romantic get-away. This place was top notch. read more

Linda is a wonderful host, who knew so much about the history of the building. The B&B is a hidden gem, close enough to major attractions (i.e. the stadiums/ inner harbor), yet away from the noise and the crowd that comes with it. My wife and I were able to take a quick drive to fells point to spend our evening there before relaxing in our room. The amenities of the building are wonderful. We spent a good portion of our night in playing chess in the library, and the atmosphere really added to the experience -- there was a wide array of book in a beautiful built-in shelf. It is definitely photo-shoot worthy. Our room was the Ella Virginia, which we highly recommend. There is a separate bath area, with a large tub and a separate walk-in shower. Both were very spacious while maintaining a historic feel. Since it was the top floor, we could see over some of the buildings, and gave it a small-town feel despite being right next to the stadiums. Most importantly, the service was perfect. Linda was very attentive to our needs, easily accessible, and personally served us our breakfast and frequently refilled our drinks. I truly felt like I had nothing to worry about while we were staying there. Their Mediterranean Frittata was excellent, paired with fresh fruits beforehand. Overall, we would highly recommend this location, and are excited to visit again in the near future. read more

This is a truly charming bed and breakfast. Nestled a few blocks away from the inner harbor of Baltimore, this b&b is quiet enough for a retreat, but still accessible enough to venture into the urban hustle and bustle. The rooms are tastefully furnished - we had the Letitia Mae room (it's the only one with a balcony). Each room has its private bathroom, direct tv channel and free WiFi. We thoroughly enjoyed this place. The library may have been little but it was spot-on with many classic books, a game board for chess and cards, and massive comfy arm chairs. And the complimentary sherry made was a very nice touch. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful. Since we had an early morning start, the inn keeper accommodated us with a 7.30 am breakfast - good quality yogurt parfait, muffins with honey butter and a Mediterranean frittata with fresh avocado and fruit. This was served in the dining room (in which afternoon tea and cookies are also available). The inn keeper also makes excellent gluten free mint-and-chocolate cookies:) delish! Where to begin! Coming to this bed and breakfast I did not know what to expect, but my hopes of having a cozy place to get away for a weekend were far exceeded. This is great Bed and Breakfast!!! My husband and I stayed there last weekend. It was our first time staying at a BNB. It was worth it! Linda, is very hospitable, kind and is always there to help. She accommodated us because we arrived pretty late. She emailed me the instructions of how to get in and where to get the room key. The house is huge and very pretty and cozy. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was pretty high, but she had a stepping stool to get up. There was an electric fire place. It was pretty cold outside, but the room was so toasty. The breakfast was super tasty. A fruit parfait to start with. And some juice, coffee or tea. Then we had carrot cake pancakes which were amazing. The second day was a frittata and a scone. I loved the scone! Ate mine and half of my husband's. I would recommend this place. It was a 15 to 20 minute walk to the inner harbor. This place is in a great area! read more

We had the most wonderful stay at Rachael's Dowry. Linda had so much fun historical information! It's just steps from both the baseball and football stadiums and the trains. My fiance and I had a lovely time at Rachael's Dowery! We stayed in the Randolph room, which is comfortably appointed with a queen size bed, high back reading chair, private bath and an extra exterior sink. The room overlooks the courtyard and gets wonderful natural light! There were plenty of sights a short walk from the inn; Babe Ruth's birthplace, Camden Yards, Westminster Cemetery and a number of local eateries. Linda and Sharon were lovely hosts. They provided insight and history on the area and were just very pleasant to chat with. I stayed at Rachael's from Sunday-Thursday because I have accepted a research position with the University of Maryland-Baltimore and I needed to come up to fill out paperwork and do some training with my new lab. This was a very short walk away from the medical building where the office is so I was very happy with that. There are so many reviews that I thought I might take some time to hi-light some of the details that don't often come up in the reviews I read. Breakfast: The breakfast is excellent. The typical breakfast hour is between 8 and 9. My HR orientation started at 8:15 and they were flexible with me and had breakfast available starting at 7:30. I was very appreciative. For breakfast expect to come down every morning to a table set just for you with a dish of fruit tossed with yogurt (I'm guessing vanilla) and topped with home made granola. The fruits I had included things like fresh pears, bananas, cherries, oranges. You wouldn't think that oranges would be right with yogurt, but it was nice. There is also a small glass of juice at the table waiting for you (e.g. cranberry apple) and a cup ready for self-service coffee. The coffee is a very strong roast (I would guess a french roast) and is apparently local. I love that the coffee was self service because sometimes I want one cup and sometimes a want 3 cups, and I would rather get my own rather than wait. Just as a tip, I did see that he has to go cup lids available if you're a take-away coffee kind of person then you should just ask. Then the entree comes, I'm just going to list what I had on each day so you can get the feel of what to expect. I like everything I ate: Monday: Something like an egg frittata with pineapple in it (I know, strange, but very good, the pineapple became caramelized and was excellent, 2 link sausages, and some sweet breakfast bread Tuesday: Another baked egg dish with some hot peppers in it, bacon, and little heavy breakfast muffins with butter Wednesday: Poached eggs on butter english muffins and sausages Thursday: Buckwheat pancakes with toasted almonds and warm maple syrup along with sausages and orange slices There were also a small fresh batch of cookies every afternoon. I think that I personally ate almost all of the peanut butter cookies on Wednesday afternoon by myself (ops). There is also honey cognac available. I will often drink a bit of honey whiskey at home/make a hot toddy with it. I started to feel like I was getting a cold and I poured some into a cup of hot tea, it was a good substitute. I stayed in the Carrie Frank suite the first day and the Randolph room the other 3 days. The bath products have a lovely floral scent. The rooms are very clean. The sheets are very soft. The bed in the Randolph room was comfortably soft, the bed in the Carrie Frank suite was impossibly hard, I would strongly suggest a new mattress. The neighborhood is great. There is a sort of general convenience store next to the house which would be great to get a snack or something. There is a coffee place next to that called Sidewalk Espresso Bar, and the lovely Corner Bistro and Wine Bar is very close too. Don't get turned off by all of the market prices listed on the menu. They are really nice there, and I almost got the impression that they were even nicer to me because I was staying here. I had a great stay. I did not regret the choice to stay in a B&B rather than picking a big chain hotel. read more

I travel once every 6 weeks and find corporate hotels rather boring and uninteresting, so asked my wife to find me a nice place in Baltimore. Rachael's Dowry B&B place is fantastic, great hosts, great room, very quiet and clean and a delicious breakfast. As one of the first guests ever to stay at Rachel's Dowry B&B, I can't say enough good things about it! Such a GORGEOUS house with a fabulous restoration. The attention to detail is impressive and I could definitely see George Washington staying there (which he really did!). The rooms are beautiful and the hosts are SUPER friendly! Not to mention the location being PERFECT for baseball games (only 1.5 blocks to the stadium) and about a 10 minute walk to the inner harbor. We stayed in the Ella Virginia room which was very cozy. Excellent in everything they do. I stayed Thursday thru Sunday while attending a conference at the nearby Hilton, and I'm so happy I selected this charm-filled B&B rather than the host hotel. A month later I still remember the delicious breakfasts, served at a time that suited my unfortunately early starts - spicy eggs, dairy-free muffins made especially to suit my dietary restrictions and fresh fruits. The bedroom was enormous with a spacious, comfortable four-poster bed giving excellent nights of sleep. Of course, it goes without saying that the service was incredibly friendly and personable. Our B&B experience at Rachael's Dowry was perfect. We came for a one night stay in Baltimore to explore the inner-harbor and particularly the aquarium and science museum. The B&B is within easy walking distance (5-6 blocks) and would be a good place to stay if you were planning to go to the convention center as well! The B&B itself is really well put together and is run in a fun, no-nonsense, kind of way that lets you get past any logistics and lets you relax. The bedroom was great with a a cute electric fireplace and lovely antique furniture that made it all very cozy. My wife and I stayed int he Ella Virginia Bath Suite which was fantastic. The bed was very soft and having the bath for us to relax with some (provided) bubble bath was great. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Baltimore and the inner-harbor area. Rachael's Dowry is a gem! Located near the heart of downtown Baltimore this Inn is fewer than 10-minutes' walk from the Convention center and the Piers (Aquarium, Museums, Entertainment, etc). The rooms are lovingly restored, spacious and thoughtfully decorated. We stayed in the room with the large soaking tub on the top floor. The bed was so comfortable. Rachael's Dowry includes special treats (but they're a surprise!) that make you, the guest, really feel like the innkeepers are happy to have you there. Parking is included in a lot with video surveillance just around the corner. Free Wi-Fi is available and the innkeepers are incredibly knowledgeable about the area. They give good recommendations for entertainment and dining venues. The breakfast was delicious and included fresh-squeezed orange juice--yum! I highly recommend this place; we will be back! I can't imagine that there would be a better place to stay in Baltimore than Rachael's Dowry Bed and Breakfast. I stayed for one evening and it was definitely the right choice for picking a place to stay. It is located right outside Oriole Park and a short walk from the light rail. They do an unbelievable job of making you feel at home and do everything they can do make your stay very comfortable. The room was very nice, the bed was very cozy. Breakfast served the next morning was very good. I can't stress enough the very comfortable and secure feeling you have while you are a guest in the house. Lovely and unique place to stay in Baltimore. The bed was very comfortable and the room and building full of small touches like many wonderful books, orange brandy and homemade treats out every night, and well chosen antiques that never felt fussy. The neighborhood is quaint with a few good restaurants and a coffee shop. Its walkable to the conference center and harbor, though a bit of a hike to the buzzier local neighborhoods. The one bummer is the limited availability of breakfast from 8-9am. I understand that many people stay here for conferences, but its very difficult for those visiting from more western timezones to drag ourselves out of bed on time. Maybe extend the hours a bit if only on the weekends? (admittedly- I did not ask, as I was planning to get up and slept right through my alarm instead, oops). read more

Stayed here the weekend of 3/26/17 (we were in town for a Stevie Nicks concert). From the first phone call with Linda, I knew we made the right decision. AWESOME STAY! What a wonderful trip to Baltimore. From the moment we walked through the door, Linda was the perfect host, telling us the history of the house (you know George and Martha Washington stayed there) and tips on the area and restaurants. We knew we were in for an welcoming experience the moment Norman met us in the parking lot. He accommodated our early check in and was very helpful in orienting us to the city. We left the car untouched all weekend. The B&B is within walking distance of the inner Harbor. Exquisite attention to detail in this historic B&B. From the grandfather clock to the china to the perfectly painted trim. So many thoughtful little touches made us feel comfortable and pampered. The Ella Virginia room has the most amazing comfortable bed with sheets as smooth as butter.
