Our accommodations as guests attending the wedding for the weekend were in the "Tudor" room. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. HVAC didn't appear to be adjustable but was quite comfortable nonetheless. Bathroom had a very large Jacuzzi as well as sink and walk in shower. Plenty of hot water, strong pressure, very refreshing. The grounds are absolutely amazing and neatly landscaped. The food for the event, including dinner and breakfast were spot on! All-in-all, simply charming.

The building is in the Tudor style but has lots of medieval accents, which I found to be interesting. There are several vintage pieces and artwork for sale at affordable prices on display throughout the building. I was super excited about that and purchased a couple of pieces to take home with me. The rooms are very cozy and the mattress/pillows/towels are such good quality. And to top it off, breakfast is solid and hearty. They also know how to host an event. Decor and the setting in the garden was lovely. Already plotting my next visit here.

There are lots of friendly staff to guide you in and provide instructions regarding entry and parking. Parking was easy and convenient we were asked to park so that everyone can pull forward to drive out. There is a quaint little bridge to walk over to the barn area from the parking lot. There are two spacious unisex bathrooms in the barn. There's a table where you purchase coins that are used to pay for drinks at the three bars available. There was one bar in the barn, one outside under a pavilion and one inside the large tent area. There was a outdoor stage and dance floor. There were several tented areas for seating and for vendors. The food was catered by Kitchen Cray. Chef JR and the owners of the venue were friendly, welcoming, and attentive to all of the guests. I will definitely be back. I'm looking forward to patronizing the bed and breakfast. Don't sleep on this site. It's definitely a premiere business in Prince George's County!

This beautiful B&B by the Chesapeake Bay offers so many opportunities throughout the day for a calm…read moreand relaxing stay by the water -- from sitting by the river while watching the daybreak, to swimming in the pool while watching the moonrise, and everything in between. There are plenty of lounge and rocking chairs throughout the property to just read a book under a tree or rock yourself to sleep. There's a respectable-sized pool outdoor overlooking the river (with a diving board at the deep end), and a spa and sauna indoor. The larger room (Holly and Ivy) is 2-rooms connected together and out to the balcony with clothes line to help dry your clothes after your water adventures. The children's tale-themed rooms are decorated with family belongings and heirloom (e.g., the Blue Willow room was the owner's daughter's room), so you feel right at home. Some of our family members stayed in beds in the library downstairs surrounded by old and newer books next an antique desk and yes, a spinning wheel. Around the corner there is a pier with a bench on a floating dock tied to it. Night time is magical, with or without the moon and stars, and you can just watch the boat or house lights on the river side glitter over the water. There is no A/C, but honestly, the breeze -- even during the summer where it's 90-100 degrees elsewhere -- provides enough natural coolant that you may only need the fans, which are provided in the rooms. Robin, the friendly and accommodating owner, is always ready with a quick smile and a story about the history of the family or house. Common sense rules are posted for enjoyment of all (quiet hours observed after 11pm, tie the boat by the shed, care to be taken with the fragile bathroom system, etc.) The farm has Pixie the goat and the 2 sheep (who have gone viral with their own video!) along with chickens and ducklings and Pete the sweet dog (with his own police record!) and a cat who just roam about the property. Eggs from the farm are abundant and the owner encouraged us to cook and eat them lest they get spoiled. The town with groceries (Giant, Safeway), with restaurants and fast food (Arby's, Saigon Palace, and the Chesapeake Seafood with their superfresh seafood among others) are about a 15 min drive north, so this place is both secluded and convenient. If there were any drawback, there are mostly related to the water-sport area as some gears felt a bit worn (there's some "old ignored Chesapeake" feel to it), e.g., it would help to have more adult-sized comfortable life vest and more 2-paddle oars (to match the number of seats on the kayaks/boats if all boats are to be used). The greenhouse area where the sauna and spa is also just that -- a greenhouse, with tools lying around (don't expect a lavish steam room) -- but to me, these add to the charm of this down-to-earth B&B that makes it feel closer to home. The 1921 B&B history book mentioned spiritual entities (a white dog, a lady in black) but during our stay they didn't manifest themselves or being bothersome (they were all part of the ancestral family of the owner after all) -- It's actually made the stay a bit exciting and Robin told some of the historical stories quite light heartedly, which is appreciated. A dreamy and memorable stay in this fantastic historic place, with a super friendly host and beautiful view all around.

Come for the railfanning, stay for the history…read more I first learned about Harpers Ferry, WV while sourcing stock footage for work. I came across the same clip in a rail safety ad, which made me look up directions to Harpers Ferry from DC. The historic park/town is served by the very MARC trains that pass outside my DC window each afternoon. You can describe Harpers Ferry as *deceptively* close because it's a 90 minute train ride, with planes flying into Dulles close enough to make out the airline. Looking for hotels there, Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast was the first that came up, with great reviews. Chris was very helpful and responsive via text and email. I booked the Top Room, which was $170 for a night including taxes. The quaint B&B has three accessible floors, as the family naturally lives onsite. The first floor is the main entrance with the common/dining areas, and the patio overlooking Maryland Heights and the Potomac/Shenandoah Rivers. The second floor has more rooms, one with a full balcony. And the third floor is the Top Room, with windows overlooking each side of the vintage building. If you Google pictures of Harpers Ferry, Stonehouse is in nearly all of the shots, since the balconies are front and center of the skyline. The town itself is like a real life snow globe. But the B&B, the litany of museums, eateries and shoppes around it, as well as the train station directly across the street make it an overall ideal place to stay, be it for hiking, or for something else: A love of trains is what brought me to Stonehouse, so take note that rail traffic can be heavy in certain times of the day. But the light rumbles also helped put me to sleep in the already soft, cozy bed. A container of water was provided, and while glasses should have been cleaned of dust first, it was still a really nice touch. The room also had playing cards, ear plugs, plenty books and a whole lounge chair. Checkin was a simple set of instructions at the door with my name on it, with checkout simply being your absence at the appropriate time. In my case, I only booked an overnight stay, getting in at 8pm and leaving around 6:30am, with checkout/checkin being the traditional 11am/4pm. While I didn't stay for complementary breakfast, I did catch a stellar sunrise between the mountains, as well as nature footage from the neighboring park. All of that to say, I definitely look to return to Stonehouse B&B later this year.

This B&B is located right in the heart of Harper's Ferry, giving walking access to stores, restaurants, and historic sights. Another amazing experience at the Goodstone Inn is worth sharing. We couldn't wait to return to the…read moreinn after our last memorable visit, and we are so happy we did! We're spending a few days here for a cozy, romantic anniversary getaway. We had visited the inn several times, but our last visit, seven months ago, was different. I just had to write a review about an amazing young woman named Saxton, who made such an impression on us. It was her very first week working at the inn. I could tell she was going through some struggles in her personal life, but despite whatever challenges she was facing, she gave everything she had to making sure her guests had a wonderful experience. Her kindness, determination, and genuine desire to do her very best were impossible not to notice. I remember thinking there was something really special about her and that she needed to be recognized for being an extraordinary woman. I had no idea that taking a few minutes to recognize someone for the wonderful job they were doing could have such an impact on their life. When we returned this week, something happened that brought me to tears. During dinner, I saw Saxton again, and she was doing what she does best! There was a wobbly table, and she was determined to fix it. She literally had to get down on the floor and sit there to accomplish that goal, and she did just that! She wasn't going to walk away until the table was steady. That's the kind of person she is. You can tell she takes pride in what she does, even the smallest details. I saw her look up with a big smile, as if she recognized me. As we were leaving, Jessica, the lovely young woman who checked us into the inn, told me that Saxton had recognized me and wondered if I was the lady who had written the review. I said yes and asked if I could see her to say hello. When I saw Saxton, she gave me the biggest hug and told me that my review had literally changed her life! Apparently, it brought her hard work and dedication into the spotlight, and management took notice. She was finally being recognized for the effort and heart she had been putting into her work from the very beginning. But what makes me even prouder is that Saxton didn't stop there. She took that recognition and continued to build on it. Her determination, dedication, and ability to connect with people have only grown stronger. She kept showing up, giving her best, and proving herself through her actions. Now, just seven months later, she's being considered for restaurant manager! Yes, the same woman that sat on the floor to accomplish her goal of fixing that table. I may have helped bring attention to her hard work, but Saxton is the one who earned every bit of the recognition and opportunity that followed. What touched me just as much was seeing the light in her eyes that I hadn't seen seven months ago. I cannot begin to tell you how much that meant to me. It brought me to tears. I was so proud of her! She deserves every bit of that recognition. And now I also have to tell you about Jessica, another extraordinary woman in her own way. From the moment she checked us in, she was so warm and welcoming. She even went out of her way to personally escort us to our cottage, even though her shift was over and she was leaving. That was when we discovered that we share a love for birds. The next morning, when we returned to the restaurant, we saw that Jessica had left us her personal Birds of Virginia book to borrow, along with a map she had taken the time to mark with the places where she had seen some of her favorite birds. She was genuinely excited to share something she loves with us, and I thought that was just the sweetest thing. She didn't have to do any of that. She simply wanted to share her excitement and help us experience something special. I was so touched by her thoughtfulness. Lastly, let's talk about the food! Once again, it was absolutely extraordinary! Every meal has been wonderful, and the entire experience has made our anniversary getaway everything we could have hoped for and more. What makes this inn so special isn't just the beautiful surroundings, the cozy accommodations, or the incredible food. It's the people. Saxton and Jessica are two remarkable young women who genuinely care about what they do and the people they encounter. You simply cannot teach that kind of kindness and dedication. It comes from the heart. I sincerely hope management recognizes and appreciates what they have in these two women. And Saxton, I want you to know how incredibly proud I am of you. Seeing you again, seeing that light in your eyes, and hearing about everything you've accomplished was such a gift to me. I hope you get that management position because you have certainly earned the opportunity! And when you do, there should be a celebration. I hope we get invited to honor your spirit. Thank you for making our anniversary so memorable. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to celebrate!
