We rented the lower level apartment for 5 nights in November 2009…read more Full kitchen, which we only used for making coffee. Great location, about 3 blocks from the northern escalator at Du Pont Circle. Plenty of room to spread out, it was just my wife and I but 6 could get cozy in here and 4 could be comfortable. TV, free wireless internet, excellent location and a pleasant hostess. The basement apartment is self sufficient, so we did not have the "bed and breakfast" experience of sharing, but that's OK for us.. We had our own full bath, our own exterior entrance, etc. Rates vary, but this was such a better deal than any hotel room, how can you go wrong?

Our host, Dana, was very friendly and, since our sight-seeing plans were kind of up-in-the-air, gave us lots of good advice on places to go and things to see. The room was really cute and clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable -- one of those adjustable tempurpedic mattresses. I'm not sure if every room has one or if it was just our room, but it sure made it hard to want to get out of bed. There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

The chicken came with string beans that had a little pieces of meat and also mashed potatoes which were super good. The butter they serve with the free bread is super different and awesome. I loved it. Not quite sure what they did to it. My coworker got a steak medium well, but it came out pretty underdone. Luckily, they took it back and cooked it a little more. Although I will say all you people do well done steaks there is another way. I used to get well done too. I understand where you're coming from but there's nothing like a medium rare. We ordered an appetizer at the beginning. Hush puppies never arrived. Which was fine didn't need them by the end. They had a live band there which is why we went there in the first place. However, it's first come first seat and the band is in the front so we ended up sitting too far back to actually hear the band and by the time we got up there and the band was going all the seats were taken, and there's nowhere to really stand so we just left. The art is very modern, but most of the decor seems pretty old and I felt like it didn't mesh well . Overall, pretty good place I think it would be cool to stay there one day since the other side isn't inn.

Six of us decided to have brunch here…read more A delightful old facility with a very cool main floor meeting area and dining. We were served at an upper level, and anyone who likes to drink a lot might be persuaded to eat at the lower level where the bathroom was. There is an "office" there that has terrible signs touting locally-made potato chips, T-shirts, and other gifts. I hope they're not relying on these as an income stream. Very nice server... with too many to wait on our floor. Service was a bit slow, but you have to accept this as par -- anywhere you go. No worries. I had the Eggs Benedict, a Boozy Hot Chocolate, and the highly-acclaimed "Donut." The eggs were very good, but the potatoes bites were soggy... might have been cooked a minute or two more. The Boozy Hot Chocolate seemed far more chocolate than anything else. Live, and learn. The "Donut" was good, but wasn't what I'd expected. It was more the consistency of French toast, very doughy, and served with whipped cream. The fact that I didn't care for it didn't mean that it's bad. The only thing I'd change in my experience was that I tried unsuccessfully to flag down our server to bring some coffee to me. We ran out of time before the check came (as 5 of the 6 had to go back to work -- yes, on a Sunday) Still, the menu looked interesting and I'd probably come back -- but probably at an off-peak time.

I stayed here 4 nights to save money versus a stay in nearby Wardman Park convention center hotels…read more I agree with other reviewers that the accommodations are spartan (and maybe a bit shabby) but the rooms were clean and quiet. And, most importantly, the queen sized bed was extremely comfortable, so I got a good night's sleep throughout my stay. The location is excellent--close to the Metro, so there's no need to have a car. Proprietor Jack was friendly and tremendously helpful and attentive to my needs--most especially after I sprained my ankle while out for a jog after my second night's stay! He personally provided ice packs and arranged for his staff to do my laundry--gratis! I am very happy that I was staying at his place when that injury occurred.

The guest house is very cozy and homey; yes I would say it is a tad shabby and very much loved-in, but everything is clean and in working condition, the ac worked perfectly, the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and the vibe was completely welcoming and warm. Make sure you read all the info on the website, the only TV is in the common area (though there was good WiFi access in the rooms), the only parking is street parking which is free overnight until 9am but $15 for a permit during the day, but this is all made clear on the website, I had no surprises. In fact the owner was very helpful when we had our rental car a night longer than expected and he let us park in his personal driveway for a short time so we could have a leisurely breakfast and not rush to move it. Breakfast is simple but filling and well-cooked, when the pot of coffee is done after breakfast you can always make yourself a cup of keurig, there is always a bottle of wine and a plate of cookies to welcome guests when they return (my only complaint is the cookies are cooked crisp... I like mine chewy!! :P). All-in-all we would definitely return. Amazingly convenient location (5 min walk to the metro which we used daily), comfortable rooms, great service.

Great mixture of both decor not only at the house hit the surrounding area. GPS will take you to the front of the house at 506 Cameron Street. The back of the house has five parking spaces, feel free to park in any of the spaces in our lot. Accessibility from Cameron Street is from the iron gate and alley in the front. This kitchen was built in the 1700's, and the rest of the house was built around the kitchen in 1815.
