If you're a traveler who loves design, good coffee, and staying in a neighborhood, book one of seven rooms at good neighbor's guesthouse. Staying one night in December, here's my five-star experience.
1) Room: I stayed in the Sunsets room on the second floor of the guesthouse. It's one big room with a king-sized bed facing the TV and windows. Behind it is a wet bar with a fridge, a desk with trendy snacks, and a spacious bathroom. Everything is new and for sale. Sourcing design-forward furniture from around the world, there are a few touches thanks to the owners. For example, papyrus can be found in the room, a nod to one of the owner's native Egypt.
2) Amenities: It's a boutique guesthouse so don't expect a gym or pool. The amenities are in the room like a tech-forward screen that connects to streaming services and a speaker that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Snacks and drinks in your room can be purchased. The room came with an iron, shelves, a notepad, and more. There's fast wifi and every guest gets a free coffee at the coffee shop on the ground floor and a discount on food.
3) Check-In: Days before my stay, I downloaded the Goki app. Once it was time to check in, digital access to my room and the lobby activated in the app. There's a staff member onsite during work hours who is very helpful and a goldmine of local recs.
4) Space: Every corner is thoughtful from the holiday lights decorating the facade to the lobby to the reading nooks in the hallways. There's a large outdoor patio with tables, a plant shop, and a cafe with quality coffee and food.
5) Neighborhood: It's in Hampden, a neighborhood north of downtown full of top-rated cafes, restaurants, a brewery, a bookstore, and more. If you go during December, walk to Miracle on 24th Street, a block with epic decorations.
