So this salon use to be another salon years ago, and then it turned into Dalys and now it's R.M. Beauty Salon. The sign at the top says Daly's but the owner, Dominga is getting her sign in the next two weeks. She did a fabulous job and I am in love! I do not reemember the last Dominican hair salon I've been to where they did not use a flat iron to straighten my hair. She used just a blower! I am in awe. I didn't wait more than 5 minutes to start my wash. She offered me tea, coffee or water and candy. It's small but I love the intimate setting. I paid $25 for a blow out and $5 for deep conditioning. Holy crap I'm in love!!! I have been talking about getting my ends trimmed for about the last month, but didn't know of a good place. Sadly I'm also not one for trying new places when it comes to hair, dentist, or my girlie parts doctors- all pretty obvious reasoning. However I realized my hair was going to be a mess until I did get it cut, so I relied on my dear friends on Yelp to find a place near my house. This place popped up as #1. First, I called to get an idea of the price range. Another reason I don't like trying out new hair places is because it's like they can smell the newness on you and try to charge you extra, unnecessary prices- they upcharge you something serious. When I called she said she needed to see my hair first before giving me a price, which usually means I-need-you-to-inconvenient-yourself-by-coming-in-just-so I-can-tell- you-some-ridiculous-price-but-you're-already-here-so-you'll-agree-to-pay-it scheme. Ugh! I had some errands to run anyway and as I said the place was #1 when it came to proximity to my house so I thought what the heck, if it ended up insanely overpriced I would just walk home. I walked in and the place was packed. As I stood by the door for a moment, I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay or just go. The lady asked me if she could help and I asked if I could get a wash & trim, sure she said. I inquired about the cost, to which she answered would be $25 then asked if I wouldn't mind waiting. For $25 definitely not (I thought) and asked if I could sit over toward the back. I will admit the wait was long, but that was partly my fault for coming on a Saturday afternoon. But when I was finally up, the lady shampooed and deep conditioned my hair before sitting me in the seat and putting in rollers then placing me under the dryer. When I sat back in the seat and she blew it out, cut it and straightened it with the flat iron I could just see the dollar signs scrolling up like movie credits. Once she was all done, with fear in mind, I asked how much do I owe you and she said $35... what to what?!?!?! $35, seriously for all that! It was the actual price on the price list for natural hair. Ohmigosh, I might've found an honest hair salon for just about the first time ever. I quickly paid her, leaving an additional $10 tip, hugged her and thanked her. Right before leaving I made sure to introduce myself as well as getting her name- Vivi. She was wonderful. While I was walking home there was a little more pep in my step just so I could feel my light hair bounce and slightly blow in the wind. I felt like a hair product commercial model. I more than highly recommend this place. I do suggest that you don't go on a Saturday because it's beyond busy or Tuesday because they're closed. But I recommend you go! read more

Read the previous review, and decided hey why not give it a try. I went to the Salon on Monday after work and wanted a wash/set/blow after a weekend spent in the pool. My hair was looking like Brillo Pad --- yes, a Brillo Pad. So I decided why not give them a shot, it couldn't hurt. Needless to say, I went in with a low expectation, I've had some bad experiences with previous Hair Salons both Black Hair Salons and Dominican Hair Salons. Vivi (not sure if that's the hairdresser name) she took me right away and washed my hair, she gave me 3 washes to be exact. Felt Wonderful, she then gave me a treatment and sat me under the dryer for 15 minutes exactly. She then proceeded to set my hair in rollers- gave her the instructions to not use the big gray rollers, preferred the red medium sized rollers & the purple large rollers on my hair. She fulfilled my request and sat me under the dryer, some 20 minutes later. After sitting under the HOT, HOT dryer for 45 minutes, she took me out and blow-dried my roots, to sit those naps down-- lol. And then pinned curled the rest of the hair. I was shocked, I didn't even ask her to do that, she just went beyond my simple request of blow dry my roots. Left the salon looking fantabulous. The only reason I didn't give her 5 stars, wish she had sprayed more oil sheen on my hair. Just to have a better shine. Other than that, I cannot complain. Wasn't a bad experience, 3 days later, my hair still has a pretty curl and flow to it, I added some more oil sheen to it myself. Lol. Total cost= $25. Seriously. No Kidding. Changes to Be Aware of: New Name- Daly's Beauty Salon New Owner- Daly (Vivi is no longer there) Payment- Cash ONLY! There is an ATM next door in a deli I arrived around 8:30am Saturday and didn't have to wait long. It was Daly and one other woman (didn't get her name). Daly was attentive (e.g., asking if the dryer was too hot when she saw me squirming and offering a solution so my ears wouldn't continue to burn; totally my own fault for not adjusting the towel correctly initially), listened to my concerns, and respected my preferences (I didn't want my hair flat ironed after a wash and set because I believe that a blow out is sufficient). She did a great job on my hair and I had minimal discomfort from the blow dryer when she was blowing it out with a round brush. The location is easy to find on Nostrand. I would recommend and will be returning! Note: I am a natural with a mixture of 3C/4A/4B hair and my hair came out straight and blowing in the wind. P.S. My visit didn't come without the ubiquitous "pelo mal" comment, but watcha gonna do? read more

Vivi was incredibly rude to me. When I walked in her shop, I politely said I was looking for a wash, blow and trim. She then gave me a dirty look and said "No not here, I don't do that.." And just stared at me. I'm new the the city and she both embarrassed me in front of her other client and made me feel like a idiot. So I just walked out the door and I took my money elsewhere. Went here on an early Friday morning and Ioved the fact that I was out in less than 2 hours all with a wash and set plus deep conditioner and trim. The ladies here were very attentive and friendly. There was a slight language barrier with one of the older ladies but she took pride in teaching me some new words lol. The salon is a little tight and in nice weather, there's tons of people hanging out right in front but other than that, can't beat the price and welcoming feel I get upon entering. I'm all-Black and all natural, my 3c/4a hair is about to my brat strap and a thing of beauty to behold. These women got my hair straight, but they weren't as gentle as I had liked. She combed my hair dry and I had to tell her to stop, wash it first, condition it and then comb it. And the heat they used! LAWD, I KNOW I'm going to have heat damage. But it looks nice, so whatever...I guess my hunt for a good, affordable and non-damaging blowout for a natural girl like me rolls on... read more

Went here to get a Mizani perm came out great clipped my ends without asking only reason I didn't give them a 5 is because they're deep conditioner was not worth it and on top of that they left the perm in a little too long for my taste and she washed out the deep conditioner with a cheap one after I paid for the more expensive one. Overall I only paid $45 which is a STEAL so I really can't complain :) plus the ladies were really quite nice read more

I was skeptical of coming here at first. But I am proud of the results. My hair was so straight and flowy. The wait wasn't too bad. I waited for about 15 minutes before the stylist began. I have natural hair so I came here for a wash blow dry and straighten. The only bad thing is they charge an extra $10 for natural hair. I ended up paying $35 which isn't too bad but when u think of Dubie salons it's supposed to be $20. I'll def be coming back here though read more

This is a small shop, only three workers. I'm very quiet and keep to myself but Daly I believe Is the owner's name, her daughter works along side her and the third lady seems to specialize in short hair. The thing I like about this salon is that I've Daly I'm never in here for much longer than the time it takes to do my hair. She manages rotating between roller setting, perming, and applying rinses for multiple customers really well. Secondly I started coming here when i had transitioned to natural hair but still was still wearing extentions. She was able to wash my hair with tracks that i would have pre installed and blend it perfectly with my natural hair by how she blew it out and straightened it to match. Eventually I got rid of the weave and she was just washing my natural hair. She's extremely meticulous and once those rollers come out, she would blow my roots and lightly pass the flat iron over it to seal the hair follicles. At first I used to object to both blow drying and flat iron for fear of heat damage, she will oblige you if you don't want both but trust me it's better if you sit back and let her work! Her results are always consistent you leave feeling like I'm the shit! My hair is as straight as of I just got a perm but full of body and flowing in the wind. All these years later my hair is still full and HEALTHY! Has a real homey family feel. Pricing a little expensive but always consistent. I paid about $45 for my wash n sets, with bringing my own deep conditioner and blow drying of my roots Results are worth the price, also she uses good products be deep conditioner is very good. Best times to come on weekends for shortest wait bt 8:30 -10:00 or bt 2-3pm. Tip: be friendly say Good morning and Goodnight they will remember you she treats her costumers good, very nice lady. Cons. Not the place if you are trying to dye your hair in colors outside of the natural range. They don't have for example pinks and purples and blues. read more

Read the great reviews on yelp and thought why not give them a try? Umm, wished I would've just passed on them. The stylist was nice but I just wish she would of done more. She didn't go over my hair with the flat iron nor was there enough sheen applied to my hair. My hair was dry and curl-less 15 mins later. A good aspect was the head massages, they felt sooo good! But I could of kept my $25 and done my hair myself if I wanted the results I got from here. I'll pass on a second trip. read more
