I needed to have a metal (brass) keychain engraved. I was referred to Richard at RK Specialties by Express Engraving down the street. RK specializes in metal engraving the original 'old school' style. The small shop in the Kaheka Professional Center is conveniently located in town in the vacinity of the Don Quijote Honolulu location. Richard took the time to explain the various fonts he could engrave and the appropriate sizing for the keychain. In addition to engraving, he has a wide selection of pens! This nearly 50 year old business has stood the test of time and I can see why. Richard is professional and his work is top notch. Additionally, the turn around time was so fast. I am very happy to have my engraving done by RK Specialties. Richard was friendly, patient and very knowledgeable in his craft. He engraved a 2.5" x 4.5" brass plaque on my beloved dog's shadow box. He patiently worked with me and did suggestions as to the size and type of lettering for the plaque. He took the extra step to contact me to confirm if my dog was a male or female. If I could give Richard 10 out of 5 stars, I would. I was naive to think that engraving services during Christmas season wouldn't cause such a problem. Even more so, I hadn't realized how expensive different businesses were. I had 2 medical pen lights made of aluminum that I wanted to get engraved and had the hardest time finding someone who would do it at a good price. One of the pens were silver, meaning that there was no coating that is necessary for laser engraving. Funny enough, all the businesses I inquired with referred me to Richard and I am so glad they did! Richard does not do laser engraving; rather uses a standard engraving tool. Richard is clearly knowledgeable and experienced about how engraving should be done. The end product was absolutely beautiful and done for such a low price! Turnover time was less than 24 hours! His office is located on the 2nd floor at the far end of the hallway! It was a little ominous as the building is on the older side, but you'll be greeted by Richard's friendliness so not to worry! Parking: You can park in the building lot and he validates! I didn't realize he validated so I opted to park in the meters since my visit only lasted about 10 minutes! read more

I was looking for someone who could do metal "engraving" on a steel blade. Richard explained how the grains on a knife blade could be hard to read and I didn't even noticed that there were grains on the blade. We decided on italics to help the lettering stand out more. I think the lettering came out really nice and as time goes on (meaning as dirt and oil get in there) it will really stand out. Service: Friendly and excellent COVID: He requires everyone to wear a mask and has sanitizer on a table in front of the display case to distance. One person in the store at a time and you need to make an appointment. Location: a bit tricky as this building is a slight maze - but if you follow the instructions on the website you shouldn't have a problem. Price: Really Reasonable. Parking: Sooo ok, when I dropped the knife off, I got blocked in with the tandem parking, so if you can - park in the single stalls. I did that when I picked up the knife and it was a breeze. Just need to tell the guard where you are going! * I put in quotes "engraving" because he etched the letters in using a stencil. I was in desperate need of an excellent engraver. RUN to RK! They are open M-F, normal business hours Saturdays usually 10-3 pm, Call first. My dad died 25 years ago, an is inurned at Punchbowl National Cemetery. A few months ago, we went there to place flowers. Lo and behold, his vase was gone. Imagine my shock. Who would take his vase? I felt devastated. All vases have names and info etched in them, most faded. His vase was faded, but even then you could still see his name, and section info! My husband is optimistic and very resourceful and common sense by nature, so he unlike me, kept a cool head and searched each inurned name and vase in this section, and he found the vase. Punchbowl said I could take it to re-engrave. I called and called, and asked around and around for engraving or etching on metal referrals. I got a lot of trophy shops. After a few places, I felt so defeated! Sad too. My husband, like the Lone Ranger, jumped into action and jumped online to help and he found RK. He called and spoke to Richard Kano. He said he could do the work, but we had no expectations though we were told RK was very good. He is the BEST. Richard is a professional, lovely, kind, interesting and a compassionate man. Brother and I went to get our watch casebacks engraved. The spot was small but comforting once stepping in. The owner immediately looked at our watches, told us the cost and amount of time it takes for engraving. While we were at it, we checked out his displayed work on the glass, and we came across some space pens that can be engraved and used underwater and literally in zero gravity environments. Piqued by its uses we purchased them and got free engravings for them as well so that we gift them to people at work. The owner was realistic about what he can and cannot do, and the biggest thing was that he was able to get all the work done on time and also called in the process of him working on our items to give us updates. I needed a metal keychain engraved for my girlfriend's birthday but I work long hours during the week. I emailed him explaining my situation and he was very quick to respond. I came here to pick up a Medical ID bracelet for my Dad. He has memory loss and since we travel a lot, I thought it would be a good idea in the event that he got separated from us. Richard, the owner, from the minute I called to inquire about his engraving services, was knowledgeable and very understanding. Being partially impaired for my Dad has been a rather sensitive subject for my Dad (who is in his 70's) as he is a war veteran and a Hawaiian cowboy. I was referred here after calling another engraving shop because I needed a watch engraved. Called Richard to make sure it could be done & he told me bring it in and he can do it. I had an appointment near ala moana so I parked there and walked across the street to his shop. He was so nice and helped me pick out which font, size & what to put. My fiancé has a unique first name so he made sure to highlight it several times on the paper so it was spelled correctly. I dropped the watch off on Thursday at about 4pm and Saturday morning got a call that it was done. It looks great. He did so well going around the logo that was already on the back. When I decided it was time to get my stethoscope engraved, I wanted to keep it on island and find a local engraver. Richard was actually referred to me by Mike who owns Mike's engraving and trophies in Aiea which was so awesome of him to do.
