It's always a treat to find a beautiful tasting room serving decent California wines right here in Pennsylvania. While it's a bit of a trek for us, it's the perfect halfway point to meet up with friends. My husband and I enjoyed the red wine flight and ended up sharing a bottle of the Shiraz, which was drinkable and good. The food menu is surprisingly extensive--whether you're looking for a full meal or just some tapas to pair with your wine, they've got you covered. We didn't eat this time since we weren't hungry, but everything looked and smelled fantastic. The owners are welcoming and knowledgeable, which added to the great experience. My only complaint is the corkage fee if you choose to enjoy a bottle on-site. This is only the second time I've ever encountered a corkage fee at a tasting room, and we've visited many across some of the world's most renowned wine regions. It's a bit puzzling, especially in a relaxed setting like this. None of the Pennsylvania wineries do this but this tasting room and a tasting room in West Chester do and it's really obnoxious. But the good news is the prices at this tasting room are affordable and they don't charge a credit card fee! That said, we'd definitely come back. My wife and I stopped in here on a Thursday night for their "pizza and a carafe of wine for $30" special, which I believe is every Thursday night (for the quality of pizza and wine, a steal and a half if you ask me). The first pizza and carafe was so good that we stayed for another round! The pizzas were a decent size and had great flavor. Not overly greasy, and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. Plus the crust was perfectly charred. One pizza may be enough for 2 people, but I'd order a pizza per person to be safe. The wine was great too. They clearly are wine experts and take pride in a sophisticated wine selection. The carafe contains enough for two heavy pours. The restaurant was trendy and had a good vibe to it. There was plenty of seating and we walked in and got seated right away. There appears to be event space available for rent. The service was awesome. Everyone was nice and checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. I'll definitely be coming back here. read more

Went to R5 Wines in Downingtown Saturday- a place we've been meaning to try for a while. Nice ambience, and the wines are quite good. All of the wines are produced from California grapes in the Sonoma and surrounding region. Of the two whites they were pouring the Rousanne was our favorite (We took a bottle home). Enjoyed the Reds as well, I think they are very tightly structured with some good tannins so they need a little aging time to put their best foot forward. Of the Reds my favorite was the final one - a 2015 petite Syrah that was quite Jammy- consistent with a California style. Price wise they're similar to some of the other top end wineries in our region such as Va La. I will say that we had some truly outstanding cheese with our wine that comes from the same area as the wine was produced. We also took away cheese and charcuterie board to share with folks we were visiting. Both boards were really outstanding- And I will tell you that I am picky on that front. They offer a great "west coast style" wine tasting experience. Obviously it doesn't involve PA wines - but theses are still craft wines that deliver good value. What a great spot. Hope they do well and can be here for years to come. Came with another couple on a Thursday night. we were seated quickly and the place was 3/4 full at 6pm. We ordered flights to sample as much as we could and nothing disappointed. All were tasty and refreshing. We had two pizzas, both great and filling. I enjoyed a carafe of red blend, my wife did a flight of white wine. We shared a Brie plate and a pizza. Both very tasty. Service was attentive. What a wonderful addition to the borough! We've been several times now and have always had a great experience. The wines are from their estate in California and truly superior. This is not your typical Pennsylvania wine tasting experience. I love the you can purchase a flight, a glass, a carafe or a bottle. It allows you to try more of the wines. The snacks are top notch. Gourmet Pennsylvanian and California cheeses. Charcuterie boards feature some local products from Andiario. This is such a great place to start a night out in Downingtown. The sidewalk facing bar seating is a great place to sit, especially in good weather when the windows are all open. The service is as good as the wine and food. Had a delightful time doing some wine tastings with my girlfriends. All the wines are high-quality, hand-picked wines from California and even though I'm not a wine connossieur (how do you spell that word?) by any means, even I could tell that the wines were good quality. We also ordered a platter with a variety of meats and cheese, some bread, and a cheesy dip that came with jam, apples, and sliced ham(?). It was a bit pricey for the quantity that we got, but I'm sure it was all high-quality ingredients used. Had a really fun time, our waitress was attentive and helpful, and I look forward to coming back. read more

I just love this place! The atmosphere is so open and inviting. This time we went they had a special Rose on the menu and it was delicious. I did learn that they really only have dry wines so sweet wine drinkers be aware. They're also featuring pizzas, and we tried the corn and tomato pizza it was delicious.
