Hubby and I were given a "stay-cation" for Friday and Saturday night here from my in-laws.... or so we thought.
More on that in a moment, I shall start from the beginning.
Checking into this hotel is difficult. You have to line up for the valet on the other side of the road, IF they're out there. We circled the block a few times waiting on a spot in line. Or else, I guess you could try to find parking elsewhere and schlep your bags a few city blocks. Whatever. So we get the valet and we go in to check-in and get our room. The first impression we got was just hazy because the room was filled with smoke from the kitchen that's basically the entire first floor of the hotel. Something was just legit burnt.
So the girl asks us for a card to put incidentals on (remember the in-laws were getting us this room)... so my husband hands her his card and she runs it. Well, I tell him, I bet she just ran the whole room plus $50.00 on your card and sure enough... $850+ later.... (that's right two nights are almost $900!!) So she says, oh I guess I should've told you how much I was running the card for... you think? Ok, fine, we'll get the money back from the parentals, it's cool. Then we're also informed that the wi-fi is not working in any of the rooms. Great start, amirite? We get our room keys, but no one tells us how to get to the elevators so we're walking thru a busy restaurant/bar with our bags, all the way around in the smoky room (smell of wine and cheap perfume, jk jk, not really jk).
Finally make it to the elevators and to our room... we open the door....
It's cute, ok, it's cute. We go to open the shades, because we'd like a little light in our lives. They don't open all the way. One of the shades opens halfway. The other shade, the privacy/blackout shade - it doesn't close all the way so you know darn well tomorrow AM is going to suck badly with the light and there will be zero sleeping in. P.S. It happened just that way. If you don't want to watch tv on your bed, you have to pull a chair out of the corner because the chair is under the tv.
Look in the bathroom, and I kid you not, it looks and feels like a cruise ship bathroom. Srsly.... srsly.... the toilet is attached to the wall with the flusher thingies above it that you press and the water is like a vortex being sucked down into the abyss. I guess with such a toilet, you can't use multi-ply toilet paper because theirs was like a see through sheet of sand paper. Ouch. The shower... oy the shower... it's not a complete enclosure. There's glass halfway from the wall to the middle of the shower so when we went to actually take one, the water took FOREVER to get hot (if it ever did) and it was FREEZING because the whole no doors thing. Water was going all over the floor. Great, grand, they have whatever toiletries they had... you should get gold flake shampoo for what it costs there. And there's no fan in the bathroom so if you need to do your business, I hope you're with someone you really like because they're going to be knowing about it.
We ordered breakfast Saturday morning. It was decent for my husband (he had french toast with blueberries on it). I had the omelette and it was terrible at best. The eggs looked like they were maybe egg beaters? I just don't trust an omelette that has rubbery, one-colored eggs - you know what I'm talking about. The blueberry muffin was scorched (maybe that was the smoke from the night before... I don't know). I just know it's not worth anywhere close to what you pay.
The beds are not comfortable, they are loud getting in and out, they just sit on a platform that's over-sized for the mattress. The whole place is loud, really. I understand there's a white noise machine in the room. Whatever.
The area around the hotel is not good. We tried to walk around Saturday afternoon and I ended up getting nailed in the shoulder while on the sidewalk by a d-bag riding his bike on the sidewalk (not legal, dude), who just kept on riding and I'm pretty sure he laughed too. It smells very bad around the hotel.
Bottom line: staying somewhere for this price and with this low of quality is a drag. I'd recommend maybe stopping in here for bevs *maybe*, but if you want a quality stay at this price - I'd stick with The Jefferson or The Omni. Majorly bummed out about this one. If I had folks who wanted to stay downtown, I'd tell them to skip this one over in an instant. Cute furniture only gets a place so far. This place is self-aggrandizing for no reason. read more
