We've purchased a Bernina and two Baby Lock machines from them. We've taken them and our other machines for service and it's worked out well. Quilt Beginnings have always treated us fairly. We've also enjoyed several classes there. Quilt Beginnings has significantly increased our skills and they are always there to provide advice and talk through problems. It's also fun to bring in our projects and show them off. They have a large selection of fabric which is more expensive than the craft stores, but it's higher quality and priced competitively to the other quilt stores. One of their greatest assets is the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Get to know them and they will be your friends and supporters for life. We're so very happy we found this store. read more

Surprised I was treated like I was going to steal something. Someone followed my friend and I are around. A lot kept asking us if we needed help. They don't know how to spot a thief, so they treated everyone like one. Spent $200 on cut fabric. They must have a lot of theft. After my first ever visit, I will not recommend this store to any one. My quilter purchased material from Quilt Beginnings in Dublin and I didn't care for what she chose. Four hours after purchasing she attempted to return it. I was with her in the store when she was told they do not accept returns on fabric (I personally saw no signage staing such) because it's already cut. Clerk even stated to my quilter that it was my quilters fault. My quilter left the bldg but I was still inside. The clerks then unprofessionally talked about my quilter and the interaction that was had. As soon as they realized I was still there, they continued but in lower voices. As I strolled past packages remnants, I commented to them out they can package those scraps for $50 but can't take a return and do the same with it. Makes no sense. My quilter has spent thousands of dollars with Quilt Beginnings under the old ownership. She stated she will not be going back. read more

I purchased fabric for myself and a customer. My customer did not like some of the fabric which was purchased. I tried to return it and was told they didn't take returns.....no sign was posted stating this. I was told they couldn't sale already cut fabric and it was too bad, it was also my fault. They have several packet of precut fabric for sale. My purchased fabric was cut 4 hours before my attempted return. After walking out in a huff on my part, my customer was still in the store when she overhears them discussing my return attemp in a very unprofessional manner. I have shopped at this store since first opened; purchased 4 machines, several 1,000's of dollars of fabric, taken classes, purchased all my notions there. Since new owners have taken over, there has been no customer empathy, attitudes of middle management feels condescending, and according to other reviews - customers feel invisible. I think, no I know, I'll be taking my business to another quilt shop. read more

Nice selection of fabrics. They sell machines, notions, accuquilt, a few embroidery designs and look like they have classes. The ladies working were friendly, they offered help then didn't pester me which I enjoyed. The location is also easy to drive to. The only problem is going in with a wheelchair is not the easiest, you have to park down the strip. read more

I dropped my machine off for a general cleaning and fix the thread cutter on June 14. Was greeted and helped in a timely fashion but since then, I have only received a text message that parts are on order and work is on hold. I have called to ask about the delay, twice, and both times the clerk offered to have the technician call me back. They did not. They did not call with a final estimate of the cost and I'm still waiting. I would not recommend the store for machine maintenance but they do have great fabrics. read more

The reviews for Quilt Beginnings are either really bad like my experience or good like other reviews because the staff and customer service runs hot and cold. Mostly they are condescending not because of what they say, but how they say it. I've called to follow up on a sewing machine repairs and they've laughed like it was a good joke my machine was still being worked on. I appreciate the call asking me if I want to pay for a needed part but every.single.person. has asked in a tone of voice that makes it sound like buying a new part is the end of the world. I had to bring a sewing machine back for repair THREEE TIMES because they didn't fix it the first or second time. One of the sales women tried to convince me I should buy a new sewing machine from them because the repair (that I already paid for and they didn't do) would be "expensive" - it turned out to be an extra $10 part they should have replaced the first or even the second time. When I picked up a second sewing machine I also had them repair (and they only told me the labor cost over the phone and not the real total with parts to add to my annoyance of their poor people skills) I mentioned I had to bring Machine #1 back 3 times (and it still doesn't sew right) the sales women blew me off "because that's rare." No it isn't. They didn't fix everything that was wrong with Machine #2 and is on the work order and receipts for that machine. I am loathe to bring Machine #2 back in because they'll probably try to sell me a new one than actually repair it. So buy fabric there if you must but I wouldn't recommended anything more complicated than a typical retail transaction of notions or basic supplies. read more

I have shopped at Quilt Beginnings in Dublin numerous times. The selection of quality quilt fabrics is exceptional and the potential for creative ideas is abundant. Unfortunately, I must be wearing my invisibility cloak as I seem to be completely invisible! This happens every time I go there. Other shoppers are greeted with a friendly hello but not me. I stand waiting for help and am completely ignored. When someone finally deigns to assist I am treated with condescension. I really dislike when a clerk is busy maintaining a conversation with someone else while cutting for me. Is it too much to ask for your kind attention to me and just maybe a little bit of friendly enthusiasm for my project? read more

When I first walked into this small fabric shop, I was literally blasted with greetings from three eager-to-help women. It was a tad off-putting, but they were well meaning. Now for the store: They have a great selection of hip looking fabrics -- everything from designers like Amy Butler to Japanese import fabrics. They also stock a large number of sewing patterns. Notion-wise, things are lacking a bit. Come here for the fabric and go to Jo Ann Etc for those. Prices were reasonable, and aside from the overwhelming entrance, the experience was great. I love this shop!! The store is filled with tons of beautiful samples that are always being refreshed. The staff is super friendly and if I ever have questions about quilt math or fabric selection they always have an answer and lots of good suggestions. Love to stop in often and see what's new. So extremely disappointed today when I went in. I should start with I am a blue tote here, i have made several thousands worth of purchases from this store. However today will be the last. In all the years I've been purchasing here I have never made a return. Today I went in to get a bunch of thread, I also brought with me a spool that keeps breaking. The employee kept saying I was doing something wrong, that's why my thread was breaking. I embroider about every day of my life, I am having no trouble with any other color thread. Just this pink. I was there buying another 10 spools. The lady told me she was told that if I wanted them to stand behind their thread I needed to bring in my machine and prove to them that it was breaking. Seriously, you are going to lose a good customer over a $5.99 spool of thread... well guess what, you just did. I will never step foot back in that store again!! It's a shame... Update.... I spoke with the owner, she made right with the situation. I have returned several times and even purchased a new machine. They have defiantly gone out of their way to make right with the situation and I am happy to report I will continue to shop here!! read more

Quilt Beginnings seems to have done a lot for the quilting community in central Ohio, supporting events like NQA and other shows. The Sawmill store is small, but I've heard they are moving to a larger location. I always want there to be more fabrics... their Broad Street location seems to have this covered. They tend not to carry the same lines in both stores. I see some benefit in that-- wanting to spread out the variety. However, as an individual customer, I'm not likely to go to both stores looking for something. Instead, I frequent the one closest to me (Sawmill, in my case). So it doesn't really help customers to have to drive across town for something else. Quilt Beginnings is great for patterns and books. They also seem to have an active class schedule. I took a messenger bag class a few years ago, and it remains one of my most complimented pieces. QB also has a pretty incredible loyalty program, which makes sense since I'm sure most of their customers are regulars. They also have monthly specials, given to loyal customers with their yearly coupon book. Once you reach a certain "status" in their loyalty program, you will be offered a certain bag. When you bring this bag with you on subsequent visits, you get a free fat-quarter! QB is a PFAF dealer. I'm more of a Bernina girl. To each her own. Bottom Line: Quilt Beginnings does a lot to promote an active "quilter community" with loyalty programs, classes, and sponsorship of local events. Most of the clerks know most of the customers by name, and it is a great place to meet other quilters and share projects. read more

It's been several years since I made it up to this quilting store. There use to be a second Quilt Beginnings on the far east side of Columbus, but it closed a few years ago. Thus, this store has even more to gawk at, since all the east side stuff has been consolidated to this shop. What is my favorite thing about this joint? So many wonderful, vibrant, 60s prints. Paisleys galore! Also, quite a few pre-grouped fat quarter bunches. I always enjoy looking at these groupings: Wonderful for helping the mind push past a "can't match anything" moment! Oh, and so many finished blankets hanging all around! I like to get ideas for my next pattern when looking at finished examples. The patterns are kinda high here, but I always get plenty of ideas! read more

The enthusiasm of this Quilting store cannot be beat! As a fairly new quilter, it is wonderful for me to walk into a store and be able to ask as many questions as I like and be answered by someone who truly enjoys what they are talking about! Quilt Beginnings has a wide selection of fabrics, including many designer names. However, their strong points come in the many classes they offer as well as the Babylock and Pfaff machines that they sell. These machines are definitely investments to the serious quilter or even sewer, and QB definitely treats your purchase like one. This location IS moving at the end of October and will be close for a week prior to its November 5, 2011 re-opening just two blocks away from its current locations. They will have even more classroom and retail space! I definitely suggest stopping into Quilt Beginnings, even if you have never quilted before and are interested in starting. Definitely a Sales motivated environment. I felt that I was told about machine features just to get me to buy the machine, only to find out when I got it home that the features 'shown' were add-on's that didn't actually come with the machine. Then when I questioned it the salesperson said It sorry, I must have gotten the machines features mixed up when I was talking to you, but you can buy that item.... They are all very nice, but definitely out to Sell! I'm not thrilled with my purchase, but won't go back there to get my next machine. read more

It is always such a treat to walk into this store. The inventory is high quality and fresh, and I stay excited to come in and pick out fabrics+supplies for my next project! Stopped in today to match a fabric I had previously purchased there. Two staff members were busy with a display, while a third rang up a customer. Nobody greeted me as I entered or even acknowledged my presence. One of the two staffers working on the display finally asked if I was looking for anything in particular. When I told her what, she commented I must have purchased that fabric a while ago but if they had it, "it would be right there." I am assuming that meant near the fabrics I was standing beside. She then went back to the display. In addition to finding a particular fabric, I had also intended to inquire about individuals who could do some machine quilting for me. By now, there are three staffers in view and no customers, except for me. Whether that blouse was hung just right won't impact your business. Now 8 years after my original review and the only thing that has changed is I would give QB 10 stars if I could! The staff is friendly, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. The selection of fabric, notions and machines is unparalleled. The class offering is not only the largest anywhere in Central Ohio, but the instructors are superb! In addition to a constantly improved and changing line of classes, QB brings in quilting, embroidery and sewing educators from across the country - and world - to provide their customers with an incomparable selection of learning experiences. Walking into the store there are always smiling people who ask if they can help you. The store manager Jill has a helpful attitude. Wearing a smile, she has the ability to make everyone at ease. You are treated as if you are their next best friend. They have FQ's cut from the newest fabric lines. On the walls are different quilt pattern tops. Not just the usual and customary, but new and outside the box. A different perspective. They offer classes in the usual needs-applique, machine quilting, piecing, etc. Would like to have seen more notions. Such as kits made using different notions such as thangles, and Quilt-time Triangle Paper. There are many notions people would use if they knew how or had a pattern with that option. I brought my Bernina here for service last week and was extremely pleased with the service I received. The intake person listened carefully to all of my concerns. The service turnaround time was surprisingly short (less than a week) and all of my issues were resolved. A very pleasant experience! I love going to this quilt shop because of the beautiful and extensive fabric selection and the many sample quilt projects that provide inspiration. The classroom space is huge now that they have consolidated their two stores, much better than any other quilt shops I've taken classes in. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. I think quilt shops get a lot of browsers and people who just need to search out what they're looking for, so I understand staff not being intrusively helpful.
